Opinions On Kde

I've been trying to get KDE to work for me, but have had no success to date with the most recent iteration of KDE. I mean, it works as in I can get it to boot and do basic things, but the widgets are unstable and frequently lose the settings I made and there are some other instabilities that I wasn't able to get out of the system by switching to a different distribution.

At first, I thought it was just a poor job by the Kubuntu team (my first attempt), but I then tried openSUSE, who has a reputation at putting out a good KDE product, and I was still having the same problems with this one, which led me to think that perhaps it was KDE and not the distribution that was having the trouble. Anyone else have a similar experience or recommendations for a solution?
