Asalaamualaikum

to what extent does the crescent moon and star symbolise Islam?

ive had alot of hindus attacking me over this saying that it is from the belief in Allah-the moon god etc etc...

ive also heard that many muslims reject it for this reason

then why is it on the steeple of every masjid?

i always thought it wat the muslims used to identify themselves, e.g. when they conquered a palce i.e. a church and converted it into a masjid, they would stick a crescent moon and star on to show how its been converted???

please can i have some info on this?

Jazakhallah
