Al-salaamu Ealaykum = السلام عليكم

I am a interested in developing Arabic language tools and would like to tell you about a project that I have been recently involved with. It is a new way to write Arabic without having access to an Arabic keyboard. I find Arabic to be a beautiful language but I find typing Arabic or searching for Arabic resources on the Internet very frustrating since I am not proficient with the Arabic keyboard. I know many friends who share my experiences and frustrations.

eiktub replaces Latin script by its Arabic phonetic equivalent in a smart manner such that the Arabic script is deducible from the English transliteration unambiguously. The software is free and can be downloaded from http://www.eiktub.com

eiktub is so simple to use yet has enough sophistication such that you can write Qureaanic verses using the Othmanic script as shown in the third example here http://www.eiktub.com/screen_shot.html

There is also a Lite version of the software (does not support vowelization i.e. تشكيل) which can be used online at http://www.eiktub.com/online.html

This version is so convenient since it does not require any download or installation and it is platform independent (it is has been tested on IE, Firefox and Safari).

I hope you find this tool useful. I am always working on something new to expand this concept and to make it easier for Arabs to express themselves in their mother tongue. Please feel free to provide me with feedback. Also let me know of any stories you encounter about eiktub.

Great news for FireFox users. eiktub has released a FireFox Add-on that allows writing Arabic in any web form as long as you use Firefox as browser. This will be a handy tool for sending emails, Blogging, or writing on forums such as here.

You could download the Add-on from this link:

To use it:

1 - Simply right click a web form and select eiktub - اكتب عربي
2- A text pad will show up, use it to write Arabic
3 - When done, hit the "Insert" button to transfer the text to the web page you were browsing.
