I need to pick your brains people.

What practical steps do you take in order to make your prayers on time?? What kind of pep talk do you give yourself to?? Not that is is hard task! I am thinking of Dhuhr, Fajr, and Isha prayers.

:D Doomhammer....But even though you have all these to remind you, do you get up to pray, the minute you hear the azan?? Or are you not one of those who tell themselves 'you still got time to pray, be on the net for a little bit etc etc'.

Delaying the prayers is quite serious.

Allah most High says: Then there succeeded them a generation which neglected prayers and followed lusts. They will meet with destruction (Ghayy), excepting the one who repents and believes and acts righteously. (Quran 19:59-60)

Ibn abbas (RAA) explained that it does not mean that they completely abandoned prayers, but that they delayed them to the end of their prescribed times. Sa'id bin Musayyab, a great Imam following the generation of the Companions, elaborated on this, saying: "A person neglects if he delays the noon prayer up to the afternoon prayer time, afternoon prayer up to almost sunset prayer time, sunset prayer up to evening prayer time, and evening prayer up to morning prayer time, while delaying morning prayer until just before sunrise. If anyone dies without repentance while continuing in this manner, Allah has promised Ghayy for him, and that is a valley in Hell which is very deep and has foul food."

Allah Most High says: Woe to the worshippers who are unmindful of their prayer. (Quran 107:4-5)

Saad bin Abi Waqqas said: "I asked Allah's Messenger (SAW) about the meaning of 'unmindful,' and he replied: 'It is delaying it (the prayer) up to the end of its prescribed time.'" (Bazar)

While Allah calls such people <, they are lazy and perform the prayer very late. He has promised them <> (Wayl), which signifies a great punishment.

Some say, "Wayl is a valley in Hell, exceedingly hot, and that is the place for those who delay or miss the prayer, excepting the ones who repent and correct their habits."

Now we know the seriousness of delaying the prayer, however how do we implement this?

Say you are on Gawaher and it is zuhr time, do you get up straight away and come back (while you are at it, do you complete your duas, istaghfaars before you come here) or do you first finish what you were doing, and then pray without any distractions? What if by the time you finish what you were doing, your prayers is delayed?

How do you overcome this??

Asalamu Alaikum

It's one of the things I'm facing right now. Coming to the end of the school year with quite a few bits of work to do, and having got a few plans ready to kick off, I really fight myself, but I have to finish what I am doing first. :D If I don't, I just can't get back into the mood again. It happens, almost every time.

May Allah forgive me, and give me the strengh to put my Salaah before everything.

I'd also be interested to read how people overcome this kind of situation.

I never had a problem with getting my prayers on time. I will be sitting there and see that it is 1:30...so I will know it is almost duhr time...I usually then go to a list for the times for the prayers for that month and see the exact time (Allahu alam) and make wudu and do something while I am waiting for the exact time...

Allahu alam

May this continue for me and may it be easy for all of you. :D

my memories not that great so i can't remember the exact ayah , but making late prayers is mentioned in the qur'aan......not something to take easy. I'll try to find it inshaAllah....unless someone else does.

I second that! It really depresses me when I hear that people delay their salah (when they dont have a good reason especially!!!) Do they really have something that important that they delay salah? :D
:D I will look for hadiths/verses on this...

There is this one hadith I once read...that the prophet :D said "if you knew the reward for praying asr salah, you would come running"
Allahu alam

Wa Alaikum Mus Salam Warahamtullahi Wabrakatahu,

JazakAllah Khuryun for that information Sister.

Well usually, i check the timetable to see when prayer comes in, half an hour before time for prayer comes in I keep watch of the time, then 15 mins before prayer I go and do wudu, in my house there is long que of people needing the bathroom otherwise, then I sit on the prayer mat and wait to hear the azan. Once everyone hears the azan they leave what they doing anyway. I guess its easier for me coz everyone remembers at the same time and reminds each other so no one can actually forget, Alhumdulillah.

Or I get my sis or bro to phone me and give me a bell. I think that answered what you were asking.

Assalamu Alaikum Warahamtullahi Wabrakatahu

Oh sis peacemaker...you mentioned something so important, that i never thought of doing....doing wudu 15minutes before the salaah. This i have never done it and i think this would be the solution to my problem. At work, I wait till the prayer time comes, then i make wudu, after i finish what i was doing. It is terrible. When i am at home, i pray my prayers on time but at work is the problem.

I will try and do what you do. Inshallah this will work.

"then I sit on the prayer mat and wait to hear the azan" :D Maashallah sis. Another thing i should do...though it may not be possible when i am at work.

Wa Alaikum Mus Salam Warahamtullahi Wabrakatahu,

I'm glad I could be of help Dear Sister.

Well, wudu takes about 5mins, then i wait for about 5 mins to pass after the prayer time comes in, in the mean while getting yourself mentally prepared, the mind can go haywire sometimes, i hate that happening, at home we have the microphone kinda thing connected to the Masjid so we hear the azan from there, i love it Subha'Allah.

I understand with work it can be a issue unless you cut your lunch short and say you will use that time for prayer, because i deifnately don't need 1 hour for lunch alone.

Alhumdulillah...

Assalamu Alaikum Warahamtullahi Wabrakatahu

:D sis peacemaker.

In one of his circulars Sayyidna Umar ibn Khattab, Radi-Allahu anhu, sent instructions to all his administrators saying, "In my opinion, salat is the most important of your obligations. Whoever takes good care of it and safeguards it safeguards his religion and whoever neglects it will neglect other things even more." He then added instructions about the times for the five salats and admonition against dozing off before Isha. [Muwatta Imam Malik. Hadith No. 5]

Wa Alaikum Mus Salam Warahamtullahi Wabrakatahu,

Ameen Wa'iyaaki Dear Sister.

JazakAllah Khuryun for that Sister, truely Salat holds alot of importance, it distinugishes us from the kufr and is the first thing we will be asked about on the day of reckoning, as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong.

Assalamu Alaikum Warahamtullahi Wabrakatahu

Practical steps:

1) For fajer make sure there is someone else to help you wake up if you didn't do it on your own.

2) For the duhur and isha prayers make sure you don't schedule or plan to do something then.

3) Make yourself feel guilty of you didn't pray yet :D :D

I want Allah :D to be happy with me and that requires me praying on time and HE is watching subhanu wa Taala.

Well, it helps if you hear adan, if there is no Masjid near you then either put on an Islamic channel or the Islamic radio station.

My mom's voices drums in my head "did you pray yet?" :D

-------------

Bro doomhammer you live alone? There is no one else that wakes up for fajer in your home?

Do you sleep late? that could be the problem.
