Alhamdulillah i finally got my wish. After a hard battle deciding where to go and what to do, i finally ended up in Yemen. I'm doing a 3 month arabic course and so far it is just great. Its fun too. The institute is actually like a border line between the Old ciyt of Sana'a for those who like a traditional, quiet and peaceful environment, and the new city of Sana'a where bustling like Cairo, with almost anything you want to find, accesceries, clothing (not the best in quality though), food (KFC, Pizza hut, Shawarmas, Italian, chinese, korean, pakistani(Chicken Biryani ), indian.....restaurants, gym, amusement parks (not as thrilling as the 7 flags or Alton Towers of course).

Its quite cheap too! For anyone who can afford it and wants to learn arabic, i say come to Sial. Some people have been to various places around the arab world such syria, palestine, egypt...learning arabic but while here at sial, they say its the best. The courses are flexible, it could be private one on one, choose your syllabus, bring your group over for large discounts. Female classes are seperate. Yemenis are so friendly and welcoming. They are very Islamically modest. most of the women were niqabs. Yemen is a good place to study arabic for muslims and non muslims as well. there are several non muslims and they are really having a good time.

You will find all the information you need insha Allah on the website. But just to say a few words about the visa, all you have to do is send a copy of your passport via email to the institute, fill in the short application form provided in their website, then when you pay for the visa and tuition, your visa will be processed and sent back to your mail. All you need to do is print the copy, book a flight, pack up and get ready

Z 247, yes you can work, there are even some students in the institute that teach english to yemeni students. plus you can choose the time you want to study in the day, and how many hours a day, which days of the week if its one to one. if in a group, it has to be a group decision on the options.

More about Yemen and sial

I find the city beautiful and the whether cool as the city is about 2000m above sea level, so even the Brits aren’t complaining about the heat. There are students at the moment from Spain, France, Britain, US, Nigeria(me), Somalia, Canada, Pakistan, Indonesia, China and Italy, that’s all I know We just recently had a new student from Britain will be receiving another from Britain and US. The student average age is about 20-30. But young students are also welcome from 15 years of age I think. There are older students in their 40’s I think. There are married couples (I only met one though). There are more males than females. I don’t know the countries, age, their number etc of the women for Masha Allah most of them wear niqabs, so I don’t know whether I’ve been seeing the same ones over and over again or they are even more in number. There are students that do not study in the Ma’ahad but at their private homes. It is possible to acquire a private apartment rather than stay in hostels. The muslim women all acquire private apartment as far as I know and the classes are not mixed, although some male teachers teach female students due to the short number of female teachers.

There are good shops, supermarkets, etc so students don’t have to pack up to the teeth when coming to Yemen. Food is very cheap including posh restaurants.

If you really want to learn Arabic quickly I strongly suggest one to one tuition. If you have time to learn and relax then you can join the groups which are quite small, like 2-4 students usually in number. I switched from a group to one to one as sometimes you might be held back in class if some student’s are lagging behind.

We had a power cut for a few minutes once while I was here, so bring a touch light if you are weary about the power.

I'm planning to travel to Sial in Yemen for the Summer Intensive Arabic course (1 term) from 1st August - 31st August. Brother Farouk1986, when I fill in the online application form, I send it and then what happens? When and how do I send the copy of my passport? Will they send a form home?

i'm very sorry for the late reply. I've been busy in the ma'ahad and i hardly get time to come online.

It will be great to have you here in Yemen. I know exactly what your talking about, i had the same problem, i probably filled up the form online like 3 times and sent them tonnes of mails. Basically after you fill in the form with all the details, you have to pay before they process your application. Send a photocopy of your passport, pay by Western Union and they will process your visa and send it to you by mail. You just print it, book a flight buy a ticket, tell the ma'ahad your date of arrival and that's it.

Insha Allah i will be available if you need more information. May Allah guide you and help you learn the arabic language as you wish. SIAL is excellent for teaching you to speak, they teach you arabic like a mother teaches a child a language, it is very effective i think. I spoke to some people who are doing grammar arabic courses and i tell you they are not good when it comes to conversing in arabic, and i believe being able to speak is the basis of every language. Like now alhamdulillah i'm like a primary arabic school stusent. i can speak but i dont know all the grammar rules, i need to learn more vocabulary to become advanced.

Allah is my witness and He knows i've tried. Spent like 3 hours today and about the same couple of weeks ago. Admitedly i'm not very good with computers and i just cant get the pictures to download for some reason. I tried to upload it through [img]imageshack.us but it loaded one and wont load more, keeps on diaplaying this image cannot be displayed. I took time and effort to take the pictures to post (minding i'm also not good at taking pictures i would say), so i really wanted ot post them. i got loads of them i just dont know how to post them well.

Alhamdulillah some people tried to help me but it just didn't work. A brother kindly offered to post it on the thread for me but for some reason now he can't post on the thread. So i'm very sorry for those who wanted to see the pictures. Unless i find an easy way to do it, i guess that's it. Search the internet for Yemeni pics, and check [img]sialyemen(contact admin if its a beneficial link) , i think they got in new pictures or will be in the future.
