1ST ANNUAL EIDFEST! CELEBRATION & FUNDRAISER
CELEBRATING THE END OF RAMADAN WITH IslamIC MUSIC, POETRY & ART AT THE STATE THEATER IN NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY
New Brunswick, NJ—October 25, 2006—Andalus Media Group, LLC, a multimedia company that develops and promotes Islamically oriented special events and multimedia products, will present their first annual EidFest! Celebration & Fundraiser at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey on Friday, November 3rd , 2006 from 7-10pm/EST.
“EidFest!†offers Muslims and friends of the Muslim community, a unique opportunity to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a month where Muslims fasted during daylight hours, and engaged in extra acts of fellowship, charity and worship.
Founders of Andalus Media Group, LLC, Dasham K. Brookins (aka Brother Dash) and Hasan Johnson, said that they came up with the idea for EidFest! after thinking of ways to combine the celebratory part of the holiday with Islamic art, music (also called Nasheeds) and poetry in a religiously appropriate way.
“There are two Eid celebrations…the Eid that celebrates the end of Ramadan (Eid Al Fitr) is a very special holiday and is a really big deal to the children, so we wanted to create a family friendly event that would be religiously appropriate but fun, entertaining and unique for all who attendâ€, said Johnson. “We also wanted to support the children by supporting the schools they attend in the local areaâ€, said Brookins. “So we designed the event to not only entertain and spiritually inspire attendees but to also raise funds for local Islamic schools as wellâ€, said Johnson.
The event will consist of an evening of inspirational, live performances from some of the world's most inspiring singers and performers in Islamic entertainment. Inspired by long standing traditions in Islamic “musicâ€, EidFest! performers refrain from using string and wind instruments, using only their voices and percussion instruments to perform traditional Islamic songs along with more contemporary sounding songs that reference hip hop, pop and R&B styles.
Headliners will include Canadian born singer Dawud Wharnsby and the popular Maryland based hip hop group, Native Deen. Other artists scheduled to perform include poet, Brother Dash, the UK based singing group Shaam and the up and coming U.S. based singing group 786. Comedian Mohammed Amer will serve as host / MC for the event. Islamic artwork will also be on display in the theatres upper lobby for attendees to enjoy as well.
Tickets are $25 for general admission seating and $75 for a VIP ticket which includes access to a VIP only post-show reception with performers from the show. Tickets for the event can be purchased through the EidFest website (Eidfest [img]) or from the statetheatrenj. com website or State Theatre Box Office directly at (732) 246-7469. VIP tickets are only available through the State Theatre.
