I think there are more important issues in the world that the money could be spent on.

Yep,
well I think that the amazing opening of one's mind to the possibility of living and maybe expanding through the universe is on an altogether different plane to the usual Muslim mindset.

For the long-term survival of the human species, we will need to leave Earth and disperse amongst the stars. Earth will be hit by giant asteroids in the future, and it is unwise for the entire human population to remain on a single planet. Better to colonize other worlds or create artificial space habitats so that if one planet's biosphere gets destroyed, the whole of the species does not go down with it.

There are more and more extrasolar planets discovered every year, and many seem to be located in the habitable zones of their stars. Perhaps it is our destiny to explore the galaxy and uncover the mysteries of the Universe that God has created?

Even though that sounds exciting and wonderful I would be very sad for what we would do to the other planets and if any people are living there. We would corrupt it like we have done this planet. Personally I don't think we would ever colonize because the major signs of the day of judgement will happen on Earth and then the day of judgement will occur. Jesus(as) will return on Earth, etc. So I don't know whether God meant for us or will allow us to colonize other planets.

Allah knows best.

BTW just something that you might find interesting, we believe there are seven heavens. Not Heaven as in Heaven and Hell but this galaxy that we are in with milky way and the other gazillion galaxies, stars, planets, etc are all in the lowest heaven. The Heaven above it compared to our heaven is like a ring in a desert. And the one above that compared to the sixth is like a ring in a desert and it goes on like that until you reach the first heaven. And above that is the throne of Allah and that compared to the 1st heaven is like a ring in a desert. This is all in terms of size.

And Paradise, as in Paradise and Hell, that Paradise that we all desire and wish to achieve after death is as wide as the heavens and the Earth. That's just the width. We can't even comprehend how big it is. And the person with the lowest reward in Paradise will have the the equivalent of ten Earth's as his reward/property.

As for hell-fire it has 70,000 chains(or whatever you call it) and each chain is pulled by 70,000 angels. So one can imagine how big that is.
