It is ridiculous how civilians are being crucified in the thousands and we're just sitting here watching the news.
What Can I do to help them, indirectly at least??

I know its horrible it makes us feel so helpless. I suppose you could donate aid but I don't really know how much aid is actually getting into the country and which organisation is the most reliable either.

Salaam

What Islaam says to do in situations like this is:
1. Jihaad Physically
2. Jihaad Verbally
3. Jihaad Financially
4. Jihaad with the heart

For the Muslims in Syria, Islaam says that they need to fight physically to defend themselves from people like bashar. This is an obligation upon them.

For the Muslims far away [like in europe] who cannot fight physically, the least we can do is use our tongues. First thing we can do is perhaps remind the Muslims in Syria of which Obligation is upon them. We should motivate them, try enter courage into their hearts and display our support for them. We should also remind them that they should fight under the banner of Islaam and not nationalism or democracy etc; and they should fight to bring back the Shariah on earth as that would bring justice in Syria.
We should also try and account Bashar and his army and hope the message reaches them somehow.
All this can be done through videos on youtube, demonstrations, using other media etc. We can find people to translate our words into arabic so the people understand it over there.

To the Muslims outside Syria, we should remind them to use their tongues as well.
We can use this opportunity to expose the Muslim rulers who are so quick to send armys on behalf of America but hesitate to help the fellow Muslims.
We can also expose the thousands of ''Ulama'' who are not writing out fatawa of what the Muslims should do in dire situations like this and question why they are not rallying up the Muslims to defend themselves. Remember, the Prophet [saw] mentioned that if the rulers and scholars are corrupt then the situation of the Ummah would not be good.

We should also create awareness about the situation as I have personally spoken to Muslims on the street who have no idea what is happening. Which should lead us to question the Imaams of the Masaajid as to why they are not speaking about these kind of issues in the Khutba etc. Inshaa'Allaah, with all of this we can hope that Allaah accepts our little efforts.

As for money, if you know of any avenues to get money there then definitely it is obliged upon us to do so.

Lastly, we should hate the evil in our hearts, hate bashar and his army for killing Muslims and also hate them for the fact that they worship bashar instead of Allaah. And Also we should make Du'a for the Muslims - and that is a weapon Allaah has given us.

Things we should not do:
- Call for a solution from the UN as it is not in their agenda to help Islaam and Muslims.
- Or call for any other Kufr government to help. In fact one of the countrys mentioned that they do not want to give weapons to muslims in syria as they fear that they may form an Islamic state if they become victorious....

On a final note, it is important to realise that even if our efforts do not make any kind of change the main thing is we would be answerable to Allaah. We should do any effort, no matter how little, in order to have an answer to Allaah [swt] on that Day. And it is said that a little action with a big intention would magnify the deed in Allaah's sight.

Wallaahu A'lam...

Today, the Lead Story in the New York Times was "Syrian Forces Overwhelm Stronghold of Rebels in Homs." Americans are following this tragic situation, and pressure to do more is coming from both those who seem to love military answers to everything, and those in the Peace movement, like my son, Will Hopkins. who runs the New Hampshire Peace Action non-profit. That kind of agreement is rare in America, which is terribly polarized these days. I suggest that writing your political leaders has some value, especially in the Islamic world. It may well take military action to save the people of Syria, sadly.

That applies on democracies. Most Arab and Muslim countries are run by tyrants and the voice of the people have no weight, they rely on their own military support, and western support. They cannot raise a finger without western permission. In such countries, the military is there to protect the tyrant from his people. Saudi Arabia sends its troops, not to save its neighbor's people, but to save its tyrant against his people, as in the example of Bahrain.

Here is the perspective from China!

"Peace and stability in Syria

Updated: 2012-03-01 08:04

By Ruan Zongze (China Daily)

Moves to arm the opposition and bring about another Libyan-style regime change will only lead to more bloodshed
With the situation in Syria deteriorating, the international community is at the crossroads between war and peace.
Domestic strife and external pressure have caused the Syrian crisis. Syria is an Islamic country with Sunnis accounting for two-thirds of its population, while the Assad family, which has been ruling Syria for more than 40 years, belongs to the minority Alawite sect, a Shiite branch of Islam.
In June 2000, when his father died, Bashar al-Assad succeeded him as president. Shortly after coming to power, he introduced reform measures, such as releasing political prisoners and relaxing restrictions on speech, and began combating corruption and improving people's livelihoods. However, these initiatives encountered heavy resistance, and the reforms bore little fruit.
In fact, the Syrian crisis is being fueled by outside interference. The Arab League, which is composed of predominately Sunni-led countries that fear a "Shiite crescent" composed of Iran, Syria and Lebanon, issued ultimatums calling for Assad to step down. But these were rejected, so the league imposed economic sanctions against Syria and referred the Syrian issue to the United Nations, thereby "internationalizing" the crisis.
Turkey, which previously had close relations with Syria, initially played the role of mediator. But after its mediation efforts failed, relations between the two countries got worse, and Turkey now openly shields the Syrian opposition groups and rebels.
Meanwhile, Egypt has recalled its ambassador to Damascus, leading to the disintegration of an anti-israeli alliance that had existed for decades.
Washington is attempting to further isolate Iran by pressing Syria, and the long-term sanctions imposed by the United States and other Western countries have shattered Syria's economy.
The efforts of the international community should be aimed at facilitating reconciliation within Syria.
With the violence escalating, the majority of civilians just want a peaceful restoration of national stability and social order. Therefore, seeking a political settlement to the Syrian crisis is a top priority for China.
China has sent a special envoy to Syria for talks with the Syrian government and opposition, in a bid to promote dialogue between the two sides. China's stance and diplomatic efforts are increasingly gaining understanding and recognition from the international community.
However, the West repeatedly denounces any initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful end to the crisis, with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton particularly vocal in her bad-mouthing of China and Russia.
On Feb 26, Syria began a referendum over a new draft constitution, which would impose a limit of two seven-year terms on the president and introduce multi-party elections. According to the Syrian government, 89 percent of voters supported the new draft constitution.
However, the West has dismissed the referendum as a "farce" and the "Friends of Syria" conference, which shut out the Syrian government, the key party in solving the Syrian crisis, was in reality a gathering of the friends of the Syrian opposition. The conference recognized the Syrian National Council (SNC) as the "legitimate representative" of the Syrian people and promised to increase support for the opposition.
There were some rational voices at the "Friends of Syria" conference. Tunisian President Moncef al-Marzouki told the conference, that to be a true friend of Syria means preventing as much bloodshed as possible, and that this will not be achieved by arming Syrians against Syrians, nor by foreign military intervention.
But the West has no intention of pursuing dialogue and supporting the democratic process in Syria, its sole aim is to topple the Assad government. Inside the US, there are voices calling for military intervention against Syria. The Republican US Senator John McCain said all options must now be on the table and called for Syria's opposition to be armed, ignoring the fact that more arms will lead to more bloodshed.
At present, peace and development are the trend of the times. If the West insists on attempting to realize regime change in other countries through military means it will only open a Pandora's box.

Once a dictator starts to kill his people, there is no going back. This will never end until Bashar is captured and trialed or killed.
He is a liar, and no country should listen to him or even negotiate with him. China knows nothing about human rights or democracy, so it better shut up. Russia and China, siding with a war criminal against defenseless civilians, have badged themselves enemies to every Muslim. Those governments' officials should be captured and jailed for life. I hope that people oust those dictator governments for good.

Besides, countries supporting war criminals should have their veto privileges taken away or suspended until they become able to recognize a war criminal when they see one. They should not have any role in deciding how to protect nations.
