Ibn Qudaamah (رحمه الله) said: "We were hijacked by some bedouins whilst travelling in al-Shaam. They found a sack containing food which they all ate from except their leader, so I asked: "Why aren't you eating?" He replied: "I'm fasting." I said: "You block the roads, steal and kill people, yet you are fasting?!" He said: "We should always keep the path to repentance open." After some time had passed, I saw that very man performing tawaaf around the Ka'bah! He said: "Allah guided me due to my fasting." (Al-Tawaabeen)
