I have read the Koran and a lot of Hadiths, and even some Tafsir. But I still cannot believe that Muhammad was a prophet of God. I have even watched various YouTube videos where the so-called “scientific miracles” within the Koran are explained. But none of it is convincing.

In the Koran it says that Allah has purposefully sealed the hearts of the non-believers and will give them a great punishment in the hereafter:

As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.
Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing and there is a covering over their eyes, and there is a great punishment for them.
Koran 2:6-7

But why has Allah sealed my heart in this way that I am blind to what others declare as obvious proof that the Koran is divine and Muhammad is a true prophet?

It does not seem fair to me that I should have to endure eternal torture in hell if it is Allah that has sealed my heart himself. It seems like he is not even giving me a chance. So why did he create me in the first place? It is as if he created me specifically to send me to hell, which does not seem like an all merciful god.

If someone could explain this that would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Allah seals the hearts of the disbelievers due to their disbelief. So, it is due to a person's disbelief and unwillingness to follow God's guidance that He seals the disbeliever's heart. That seal is a consequence of their disbelief, not the other way around, as you have suggested.

OK thanks Younes.

So basically as punishment for not believing the initial message (i.e. the first time I read the Koran). God has now sealed my heart so that I will never believe in it no matter how much I read it?

Is that about right?

No, that's not how it works. You still might become a Muslim if God wills. When I speak of disbelievers, I speak of people whose final destination and eternal destination is Hell. I did not say anything about you specifically.

The best thing to do is to research, learn the logic of it first and then pray. Make it a neutral prayer. if you are earnestly seeking only to serve the God of Abraham, Noah, and Moses (peace be upon them all) then he will guide you in truth but you must be truthful in your quest. You must be open not to what you desire but to what he wants. Do not try to lie to him or yourself for neither one works or fools any. Finally when you pray you must give yourself in spirit. Basically you must give up all things that you think are true and ask the one God to show you what is true and what is not. Do not make this some light prayer like dear God please turn the light green so I ain't late for work. Spend some time, the more you pray (time) the more will come out and the more your heart will open and as that happens you will subject yourself to the possibility of God guiding you to the true path.

As you will find from my story of becoming Muslim, in a matter of speaking I was always Muslim for I always did what I did with the belief that I was following the one God. I did what I did in the belief that I was submitting myself to the will of God. It was in my search for truth, my earnest to do only his will and to listen only to his words that I began to find truth. Originally I wanted to convert all Muslims to Christianity and expose the truth of Islam as a dangerous religion but it was me who reverted to Islam and in a matter of speaking Islam is a dangerous religion to those who wish to hide truth and live their lives for the material world.

Does not even the Bible say seek and ye shall answer? God has never claimed to be one of confusion. What did Jesus (pbuh) teach more than anything else? He taught more than anything else to spend time in prayer to the one God.

salaam alaiykum Tony may Allah open your heart and your soul's eyes and let you see the truth. (insha'Allah)

What brother Abdullah Fath said is good. I would just add one needs to be constant in seeking God. You don't just pray one night for a long time and then stop because no answer came. To seek and pray regularly, even if it is a little, is better.
