My wife, Nita, has two sons. The youngest, Phil Stauffer, is 40 years old. He is in the hospital with serious health problems. His Liver is failing. He has only one kidney, and it has stopped working. His lungs seem to be failing, too. In other words, he is probably going to die. Nita is distraught and will fly down to San Antonio, Texas tomorrow. She is a good Roman Catholic, and her priest and Catholic friends are praying for Phil, and for her. Several of my Islamic friends here have assured me that they pray that I will see the light, as it were, and give up my atheistic ways. I ask all of those friends and those of you who can to pray for Phillip and Nita. If you want to know more, please feel free to send me a PM.
Thank you!
Bill

i hope that wife's son shall survive.

But you ask us to pray for him, but to whom? beacuse according to you God does not exists, then how can we pray to the one who does not exists??

God says in quran about this situation:

10:12 When trouble befalls man he cries out to Us, whether lying on his side, sitting, or standing, but as soon as We relieve him of his trouble he goes on his way as if he had never cried out to Us to remove his trouble. In this way the deeds of such heedless people are made attractive to them.

Andulsi, my wife is a devout Roman Catholic. She prays to her God and Mary. She knows I don't believe, but she knows I love her. Her Catholic friends and her priest are praying for for Phil.
That makes her feel less alone. When I told her that my Muslim friends here were praying, too, it helped give her a greater sense of peace. So I thank you all. Phil is too ill to even survive dialysis, so he is in grave shape right now. His kidney, liver and lungs are all failing. Candidly, what he is facing at age 40 HAS made me worry about my years of drinking wine, even though all my function tests, at age 69, are still pretty normal. Phil, however, was a heavy drinker, and apparently drank as much as five times as much as I have in a typical day. There is a lesson there, of course.

May Allah ease his sufferings and make it easy for him, poor Phil. My heart goes out for him,

Regarding drinking, you'll notice that Islam, as a perfect way of life, has commanded us to stay away from all things unhealthy, not just alcoholics. Pig's meat, un-slaughtered animal meat, carnivorous animals and birds, relations outside marriage, to name a few. Modern discoveries proved that each of those restrictions have scientific reasons. Even as an atheist, you and your family can still enjoy better healthy life by following Islamic teachings.

death is not the worst thing, the worst comes after the death and that is Judgment day, testing in the grave, and Hell, that is worse than death.

death is only a door to another world, it is like two twins discuss life in their mothers womb, one twin say to another, there is no other life than this life here, and when one of the twins goes out the other say, my brother is diying, while he is born, that is same with death, when you are believer, you are born, you are in another life in another world, but for us he is diying.

but when you die as unbeliever, after death comes worse stuff. death is nothing compared what comes after that.

I am sorry to hear that. My condolences.
Stay strong. You (and your wife) are not alone. We will help your family through this difficult moment if needed. All you have to do is share :)

3:185 Every soul shall have a taste of death : And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.
