  1. Marrying your cousin

Salam I understand were bro ahm's coming from, when he says that he couldnt say much to his uncle. That must be such a difficult situation to be in! Turning someone down is horrible enough without the added headache of the recipient being in the family. Things can get really personal and nasty i should imagine. On the other hand i've seen cousin-cousin marriages succeed very well, masha'Allah . Personally though, i wouldnt want to marry any of my cousins, 1) Because they are like my bro's 2) Because of possible gentic problems, reducing the gene pool, and multiplying the chances of kids getting any hereditary illnesses 3) If there were any probs the family would all get involved and people would take sides and their would be World War 3! So for me its a no no, but bro follow your instinct, if your not diggin it you gotta voice your objection! Ma'a salama
  2. Marriage

Salams sis, Please please do not cut ties with your family however difficult it gets! Its a sin, and you will have to answer for it to Allah SWT. Silat a Rahim is so important and no matter what is going on between your husband and your parents you can't cut them out of your life, please don't make this mistake. Your situation is incredibly tricky and i'm sure that being stuck in the middle is taking its toll on you. Look after yourself and have a talk with your husband, explain to him that an ultimatum such as this is unfair on you. Try to organise a get together with your parents were you lay all the cards on the table and most importantly, tell both sides how this is breaking your heart. Insha'Allah they will take heed and realise that they cannot carry on hurting you like this. I will make du'a for you sister. Wa'alaikumu salam
  3. Racism in Britain

Asalamu alaikum Before i wore hijab i sort of blended into the background because i'm white, with western features (even though i'm not western) living in a very predominantly white area. However, subhan'Allah, the day after i wore my hijab i went to the bank in my village, and these 4 guys were walking behind me. One on them called me a f***in nun (which i quietly giggled at), then another one kicked me really hard (made me stumble) as he walked past me. Later when i got home, i found a huge cob of spit down the leg of my trousers. That was the most offensive thing, it made me cry, and i actually didnt go out for a week after that. Alhamdulillah that was 6months ago, and ive never felt stronger. I realised that Allah places tests for you along the path and they are their to improve you as a person. Insha'Allah atleast something positive came out of that experience. Wa'alaikumu Salam

  9. Islam in England

asalamu alaikum Sis amani Nice 2 know i'm not alone!!! As for that song, yep everyone in my school used to sing it wen we went on school trips.... We have a prayer room at our uni, but i'm looking to get a better one cos i believe the current one is unsafe, it has no fire exit and thers a bar directly above it!!! Wa'alaikumu salam
  10. Xmas-

Salams Just gently explain to her that the concept behind this celebration is fabricated and that it is inaccurately represented as Prophet Jesus' (Isa's) birthday. Islamically speaking christmas represents many corrupt and haram ideologies such as Jesus being god, the son of god etc. Finally, when i was a litl kid i used to say to my nonmuslim friends that i simply didnt celebrate christmas because i didnt belive in it, and what is the point in recognising an idea that you do not belive in? Insha'Allah she will understand Wa'alaikumu salam
  11. Lady bug/beetles

Salams Just a little story: I know someone who used to eat them as a child, they thought they were sweets. But to answer your question ummammar, i dont think they are harmful to humans so no don't kill the litl fella's. Wa'alaikumu salam

  14. My sister

Asalamu alaikum sis, Insha'Allah, your sister will get better, she will be in my dua's. Sis i know what she's going thru, my good friend had really bad anxiety after one of our close friends died of cancer (may Allah shower mercy on her soul, ameen). Anxiety can completely take over your life, but to get thru this time your sister needs to read the qura'n and contemplate its meaning. It is truly the greatest gift from Allah to us and can really help rearrange thoughts in our mind and rationalise our emotions, its just one of its many miracles. I pray so hard sis that your sister gets through this difficult time. Ameen to all your dua's Your sister in Islam Asma :D

  18. when women get married, are they supposed

Asalamu alaikum Culturally speaking different places do different things. In my country of origin, the bride goes to live with her husbands family. Thats why the mother of the bride (and the father) cry alot at the wedding...................all together now.........Aaaaaaaaaaah :crying: But as for a hadith refering to that, ive never come across it, sorry! :D
  19. healthy competition?

  20. I dont care no more

:D :D This may be of use to you I don't know exactly what you mean by "doctor"- whether you're using the word in a medical sense or as someone who does a PHD in something. But for arguments sake (and because i have personal experience) lets say you mean a Medical doctor. I dont know if any bro's or sisters here are actually doctors so they'll be more helpful, but speaking as a medical student, i can understand your anxieties. The workload i have at the moment is manageable alhamdulillah and by managing my time i find that i dont let my Islam slip. Infact what i've noticed is my drive that pushes me to learn academically runs paralell with my worship and work to please Allah Subhanahu wa taa'la. I wont lie to you, it is difficult to begin with, but once you establish a routine for your academic work, insha'Allah you will get so much reward from your time spent worshipping. I guess what i'm trying to say is that my philosophy is that i try to make all aspects of my life part of my Ibaada. When studying the human body sometimes all you can say is alhamdulillah for what Allah has given us. Sorry that its a bit rambly but i hope u can get something out of it Your sister in Islam :P :P
  21. NESTLE

  22. What was the first ayat or surah

:D Surat Yusuf is beautiful too, as is the beginning of surat Maryam........theres just so many i cant fit them all in!!! :w: :D
  23. What was the first ayat or surah

Asalamu alaikoum Masha'Allah another really nice thread. The first surah that made me cry was Surah Al -Rahman, especially: 37. When the sky is rent asunder and it becomes red like ointment 38. Then which of the favours of your lord will you deny? 39. On that day no question will be asked of man or jinn as to his sin, 40. Then which of the favours of your lord will you deny? 41. The sinners will be known by their marks and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet. 42. Then which of the favours of your lord will you deny? 43. This is the Hell which sinners deny 44. In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round! (Then it goes on to describe the Jannah, ........wow, what a contrast.) The whole surah gave me a lump in my throat but when i heard the ayahs above (describing the hellfire and human ungratefulness to our Creator Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) followed by the ayahs describing paradise.....it was all too much and i just couldnt stop myself from welling up. It just made me feel so grateful for Allah's rahma towards me and how He has guided me along the straight path, may that continue insha'Allah, ameen. Wa alaikumu salam :D

  25. lost my love for the ummah

Asalamu alaikum, Brother, your story reminds me of a story my cousin told me. He went for hajj last year with his wife and they were doing tawaf of the Kaaba when they came across two brothers swearing at eachother. It just proves that in the most important of times certain members of the ummah show incredible levels of weakness, and don't even appear to have any self restraint. However, the most important thing for you is to make du'a for the ummah and to improve your own nafs by showing patience, indeed this is one of the best characteristics of a good muslim. Insha'Allah not only will your patience be rewarded by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, but your compassion towrds your fellow brothers and sisters will allow you to find people who have similar values to you and who you will be able to love for the sake of Allah. Hope that helps. (PS i had a pair of trainers stolen from the masjid, but you just have to overcome those negative instinctive reactions of anger and even hatred.) Wa alaikumu salam :D
