  1. Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh I hope all is well. Aameen. Misconceptions, slander, lies!!!!!! Please find attached, an article I wrote about TERRORISM. I hope it will be useful. Aameen You may download and photocopy and even distribute. SpreWho are the true terrorists??????????????????? Wassalaam Ma'al Ikraam, ========================= WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF TERRORISM? Written by (Maulana) Hafeezud Din Al-Ghore Gushtawi What is TERRORISM? Definitions of Terrorism by some Muslim and Non-Muslim figures: a) As defined by the FBI, "the unlawful use of force against persons or property to intimidate or coerce (force) a government, the civilian population or any segment thereof, in the furtherance of political or social objectives". This definition includes three elements: (1) Terrorist activities are illegal and involve the use of force. (2) The actions are intended to intimidate or coerce. (3) The actions are committed in support of political or social objectives. B) (From Latin terror: "to frighten.") The sustained clandestine (secret) use of violence for a political purpose. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxc)xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx c) Use of terror, especially the systematic use of terror by the government or other authority against particular persons or groups; a method of opposing a government internally or externally through the use of terror.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxx d) Any act including, but not limited to, the use of force or violence and/or threat thereof of any person or group(s) of persons whether acting alone or on behalf of, or in connection with, any organisation(s) or government(s) committed for political, religions, ideological or similar purposes, including the intention to influence any government and/or to put the public or any section of the public in fear. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx e) To use force and threats to frighten governments etc. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx f) Acts of murder and destruction deliberately directed against civilians or military in non-military situations. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx g) Employing acts or threats of violence. Terrorism is often used today as a political weapon to bring attention to a group’s goals or to gain those goals. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx h) Use of violence to achieve political ends. Many would restrict the definition to include only those acts committed by non-government groups, but state terrorism is also a major factor in the social world. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx i) The use of force and threats to frighten people into obeying completely. j) Any act of violence by the Palestinians. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx k) Any act of resistance by the Palestinians.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx l) The calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear. The obliteration of Muslims across the globe is ignored by the world, only because the mass murdered are Muslims... 'Muslim terrorists, Muslim extremists, Muslim fanatics, Muslim Islamists...' The media and the public do not cease to use such erroneous phrases. They promote Islam throughout as a religion, which supports terrorism and violence. Muslims are also portrayed as the terrorist while the nations they live in are considered oppressed. It is with heavy hearts that we reveal the savage genocide being committed against Muslims. These heinous crimes against the Muslim Ummah show the true sides of our nations. The motive of all the countries is to destroy the light of Islam and its followers. For verily, Islam does not allow oppressive government nor injustice, which our corrupt world leaders greatly fear. You have been mistaken or fallen victim to religious, racial, or national bigotry. You have ignored your own laws for international justice and been impulsive in judging a great majority of the human race. If ever you find the time to read through the pages of history impartially, you will be forced to amend your opinion. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx From Makkah to Taif, from Europe to Africa, from India to Kosovo, from Kashmir to Palestine, from Iraq to Afghanistan, from Russia to America, whichever country or city you look at you will definitely grant that the Muslims have always been a target for terrorists but as a Muslim nation they have never been a terror themselves. They were laid on burning ashes, dragged through rough streets with ropes round their necks, stoned till the blood ran to their feet, imprisoned in small, dark cells; their land was seized from them, the right to live was snatched from them; they took all but did not answer terror with violence. After long years of torture when they were finally allowed to raise their hands to the enemy, yes, they did perform jihad but not terrorism. And who is the person who does not know that there is more than just a subtle difference between terrorism and jihad? (Read my article on ‘Understanding Jihad’) and the way the media portrays it, as HOLY WAR is sheer nonsense! Both jihad and terrorism have the same difference as sin and prayer; as blessing and damnation; as bowing to the will of Allah and bowing to a self; as justice and injustice. The reason for jihad is to raise aloft the name of Allah; the Mujahid fights to establish the principles that make peace and justice reign supreme; that lead the oppressed to freedom; where the leaders feel no shame in sitting down with the common man; where the human race feels free of the slavery of men to become the true slaves of Allah. The Mujahid fights not for worldly goods or personal splendour, nor for recognition or name, nor for national or racial authority; nor for capturing land, mountains, rivers, or forests: merely for glorifying the word of Allah. The true Mujahid is the one who knows the art of controlling his self; who has stepped out of the shell of self-worship; whose life, death, love and hate, peace and war are all for the sake of Allah. Even if there is no soul but him he will go out alone to perform his obligation towards Allah. The aim of jihad is not to eliminate people of a certain religion or their places of worship; rather, both get the freedom to run with the victory of jihad. This is the wisdom behind jihad that Allah Taa’la publicised 1400 years ago in His Book, the Holy Qur’an. In the jihads done in the light of the Prophethood of Muhammad-ur Rasullullaah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam), not even an opponent could point out any such occasion where any place of worship of either the Christians or Jews was torched or forcibly taken. Hadhrat Umar (Radi Allah Anho) was the caliph at the time. He underwent the long journey to prevent any more bloodshed and signed the treaty with his own hand. On reaching the gates, he was welcomed by the city’s priests, bishops, generals and the highly regarded. After entering he went to see the famous cathedral “Kanisa tul Qiyamahâ€. While there, the time for prayer began. The bishop considerately said that he could offer his prayers in the cathedral but Hadhrat Umar (Radi Allah Anho) declined and came out of the building to say his prayers. A Masjid (Muslim place of worship – NOT a Masjid; Read my article on ‘Why not Masjid but MASJID?’) with the name, “Jami’ah Umar†was made at the spot. The reason he gave for not praying inside was that he did not want the common Muslims to make his act an excuse to seize the cathedral and change it into a Masjid.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxx This concession to the feelings of people of other religions, the protection extended to their elderly, disabled, women, children, and spiritual leaders; the recognition of the holiness of their places of worship, avoidance of torture and repulsion to the wild behaviour of the so-called civilized nations of today, were the outstanding features of the Muslims in every jihad and battle. Previous to the coming of the Muslims when the Romans and Persians used to attack their neighbours they left in their wake a trail of plunder, pillage and atrocities. They found pleasure in burning towns, wrecking settlements, unsparingly killing the inhabitants of captured towns, raping the women and torturing the rest. But when the Muslim armies reached the same places they treated the populace with courtesy and respect. The result was that the people who had been suffering at the hands of their own rulers and whose bodies and minds were crushed with their wrongs raised up to welcome the Muslims and helped them as much as they could. The Mujahideen of Islam never shed blood for excitement, only which was necessary to put breaks on loot and plunder and cruelty, whereas terrorists get a thrill out of shedding as much blood as they can. They burn living cities to cinders and hack off a harvest of human heads just to secure their fear and terror in people’s hearts; look at Afghanistan and Iraq! The freethinking knows that the casualties of the First World War that continued from 1914 to 1918 were, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, 6.4 million. The fatalities of the Second World War were between 30 to 60 million. These wars neither served humanity in any way nor were they able to establish any kind of fear or honour in human hearts. In contrast to this ‘International Terrorism’ let’s now have a look at the 27 jihads of Rasullullaah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam): the total number of losses of these 27 jihads was no more than 1018 on both sides. But the result of these battles was the reign of peace and security in and around Arabia. Lets not forget when a lone woman from Hairah travelled to the Kaa’ba in Makkah without fear of anyone or anything except Allah. The mushriks (polytheists), hypocrites, robbers, looters and usurpers were so in fear of the men who wore date-palm thongs and patched clothes that they did not dare to lift even an eye towards any widow, orphan, traveller, poor or an unsheltered Muslim. This awe was not due to terror of the sword, or towers of skulls, or seas of human blood; but the reason was their courtesy, help to the poor and needy, humane sympathy, the unity and harmony among themselves, the strength of their Faith, and their will to fight for the sake of Allah! Without doubt up until these traits lived among the Muslims they continued to be a blessing for the weak and a terror for the oppressor… but ever since they have lost this precious heritage, they have been no more than the dust trampled under feet that any breeze may blow from here to there. The amazing thing is that in their era of firm hold they were never called terrorists but now, when their princes, prime ministers and presidents have become no more than dirt they have been labelled with the tag of “terrorist†by those international thugs who have the blood of millions of innocent humans on their hands and those who are guilty of snatching the honour of hundreds of our sisters. Let’s conclude with a short poem of PEACE! Peace is like water Peace is like water. We cannot live without water. We cannot live without peace. Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh I hope all is well. Aameen. Misconceptions, slander, lies!!!!!! Please find attached, an article I wrote about JIHAD. Al Hamdu Lillaah, with the grace of Allah Taa'la, a leadinf mainstream newspaper published it too. Allah U AKBAR You may download and photocopy and even distribute. Spread the true meaning of JIHAD. Wassalaam Ma'al Ikraam, ================================= UNDERSTANDING JIHAD In the Light of The Holy Qur’an & Sunnah Written by (Maulana) Sahibzada Hafeezud Din Ghore Gushtawi Proof-read & typed by Bilal Shah Jihad is an Arabic word, the root of which is Jahada, which means to strive for a better way of life. The nouns are Juhd, Mujahid, Jihad and Ijtihad. The other meanings are: endeavour, strain, exertion, diligence and fighting to defend one's life, land and religion. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Jihad should not be confused with Holy War; the latter does not exist in Islam nor will Islam allow its followers to be involved in a Holy War. The former refers to the Holy War of the Crusaders. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The word for war in the Qur’an is “Harb” or “Qitaal”. Jihad means serious and sincere struggle on the personal as well as on the social level. It is a struggle to do good and to remove injustice, oppression and evil from the society. This struggle should be spiritual as well as social, economic and political. Jihad is to work hard to do right things. In the Holy Qur’an this word is used in its different forms 33 times. It often comes with other Qur’anic concepts such as faith, repentance, righteous deeds and migration. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Jihad is never a tool of waging war against the innocents; it's never a means of flexing muscles or bullying the weak and oppressed. Jihad in Islam is something unique, established to defend the divine message from being eliminated or hindered by its enemies. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Jihad is not a war to force the faith on others, as many people think of it. It should never be interpreted as a way of compulsion of the belief on others, since there is an explicit verse in the Holy Qur'an that says: "There is no compulsion in religion." (Al-Qur'an: Al-Baqarah (2:256). Jihad is to protect one’s faith and one’s human rights. Jihad is not a war always although it can take the form of war. Islam is the religion of peace, but it does not mean that Islam accepts oppression. Islam teaches that one should do one’s utmost to eliminate tension and conflict. Islam promotes non-violent means to bring change and reform. Actually, Islam urges that one should eliminate evil through peaceful means without the use of force as much as possible. In Islamic history from the time of the Prophet Hadhrat Muhammad-ur Rasullullaah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) until now, Muslims most of the time resisted oppression and struggled for liberation in non-violent and peaceful manners. Jihad is not a defensive war only, but a war against any unjust regime. If such a regime exists, a war is to be waged against the leaders, but not against the people of that country. People should be freed from the unjust regimes and influences so that they can freely choose to believe in Allah Taa’la. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Not only in peace but also in war Islam prohibits terrorism, kidnapping and hijacking when carried against civilians. Whoever commits such violations is considered a murderer in Islam and is to be punished by the Islamic state. During wars, Islam prohibits Muslim soldiers from harming civilians, women, children, elderly and the religious men like priests and rabbis. It also prohibits cutting down trees and destroying civilian constructions. (We have seen quite the opposite actions taking place in wars led by the so-called givers of freedom and democracy taking place in Afghanistan and Iraq). The basic rules of war in Islam are: 1. Be strong so that your enemy fear you and should not attack you. (This will avoid casualties and fatalities) 2. Do not begin the hostilities. Work for peace as much as possible. 3. Fight only those who fight, no collective punishment; non-combatants should not be harmed. Weapons of mass destruction should not be used. 4. Stop hostilities as soon as the other party is inclined to peace. 5. Observe the treaties and agreements as long as the enemy observes them. Muslims are commanded in the Holy Qur'an to "Enjoin good and forbid evil." (Al-Qur’an: 9:112). Essentially, Jihad is an effort to practice religion in the face of oppression and persecution. The effort may come in fighting the evil in your own heart, or in standing up to a dictator. Military effort is included as an option, but as a last resort and not "to spread Islam by the sword" as the stereotype would have you believe, although, some Western scholars have repudiated the myth of Muslims forcing others to convert. The great historian De Lacy O'Leary wrote: "History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims, sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.” xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Islam At Crossroads, London, 1923, page 8) Islam teaches proper ethics in the situation of war also. The war is permissible in Islam, but only when other peaceful means such as dialogue, negotiations and treaties fail. It is a last resort and should be avoided as much as possible. Its purpose is not to convert people by force, or to colonize people or to acquire land or wealth or for self-glory. Its purpose is basically: defence of life, property, land, honour and freedom for oneself as well as defence of others from injustice and oppression. Islam never tolerates unprovoked aggression from its own side; Muslims are commanded in the Holy Qur'an not to begin hostilities, embark on any act of aggression, violate the rights of others or harm the innocent. Even hurting or destroying animals or trees is strictly forbidden. War is waged only to defend the religious community against oppression and persecution, because "persecution is worse than slaughter" and "let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression" (Al-Qur’an: 2:190-193). Therefore, if non-Muslims are peaceful or indifferent to Islam, there is no justified reason to declare war on them. The Holy Qur'an describes those people who are permitted to fight: "They are those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right, for no cause except that they say, 'Our Lord is Allah.' Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues, and masajid, in which the name of Allah is commemorated in abundant measure..." (Al-Qur’an: 22:40). Here we must note that the above verse specifically commands the protection of all houses of worship. Forcing someone at the point of a sword to choose death or Islam is an idea that is foreign to Islam in spirit and in historical practice. There is absolutely no question of waging a "holy war" to "spread the faith" and induce people to embrace Islam; that would be an unholy war and the people's forced conversions would not be sincere. However, everyone must have the right to "strive" for the freedom to choose and practice their own faith, free from persecution and oppression. Jihad covers up practically four areas in the Islamic cause: 1) Teaching people the message of Islam: Any plans or steps of making Da`wah is a kind of Jihad. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2) Disciplining one's soul: Any disciplinary work for improving one's faith and behaviour is Jihad. Refraining from wrongdoing and not following satanic ways is Jihad. 3) Spending money in the cause of Islam: Jihad with money is mentioned in many verses of the Glorious Qur’an. Sometimes, it comes before Jihad with the soul. This type of Jihad is strategic in any plan for working in the cause of Islam. xxxxxxxxxxxx 4) Combating the enemy: The Holy Qur'an uses another term for combating. In Arabic, the term is Qitaal. So Qitaal in the Qur'an (combating) is the fourth implementation of Jihad. Thus, it is the universality of its teachings that makes Islam the fastest growing religion in the world. In a world full of conflicts and deep schisms between human beings, a world that is threatened with terrorism, perpetrated by individuals and states, Islam is a beacon of light that offers hope for the future. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Therefore, it becomes crystal clear that Islam, the true religion of Allah Taa’la, doesn’t permit aggression, violence, injustice or oppression. At the same time, it calls to morality, justice, tolerance and peace! LET’S CONCLUDE WITH A SHORT POEM: Ya Allah ! Our creator, we are all just pieces of clay. Please help us with our steps in life; let us not lose our way. All praises are for you Allah; I know that you are near. I know that you have read my heart and my words I know you hear.
