  1. New Muslim's Frequently asked questions

Great thread brother Dot. Alhumdulillah, this thread has helped me greatly. Salam.
  2. Israel & Palestine: How Much Is Enough?

Oh my goodness. You are very right. I guess I will mention it here and tonight amend it to the blog. Often times I find myself shocked by the one-sided coverage or lack of coverage that America gives to this monumental issue that affects the world. The only time we hear anything over here is when a suicide bomber kills a small number of Jews (which is a horrible act to begin with). However, here in America, we never hear about the almost daily murders and acts of atrocity that are commited against Palestinians. Thank Allah (SWT) for Al-Jazeera and other international news organizations. Salam

Today I have spent some time thinking about America and its relation to the Middle East. Why does a certain percent of the Middle Eastern population not like America, or better worded why do they have problems with our policies in the region? I know that many will quickly begin saying, "It's because we are in Iraq," and perhaps continue on to say, "It's because we want their oil." I won't get into detail on why or why not the aforementioned reasons. Instead this blog will serve to perhaps educate the reader on what reasons they should have to not like America's policies regarding the volatile region that is the Middle East today. How about a quick quiz to see how much you, as the reader, may know concerning the topic at hand before we continue? Okay, here we go! There is a nation in the Middle East that currently has 65 UN Resolutions targeting it and also a nation with 0. Please pick the nations out of the following with 65 and 0: A) Iraq B) Yemen C) Iran D) israel E) Egypt Which one did you pick? Iraq? Maybe it is Saudi Arabia with all of the OPEC price shifts? What about Egypt and its immediate relation to the Gaza Strip and the borders it has built to block the influx of people in dire need? Wait, it has to be Iran right? After all, the devil, Mahmoud Ahmadinijad, does spew his anti-American and anti-holocaust speeches from there right? Well the answers are israel and Palestine. These two have been going at it since the 1948 formulation of israel as a nation by the USA and UK and it has been a lopsided battle ever since. Now please, do not think for one second that I pretend israel to be in the wrong about everything and the Palestinians in the right, because then you would be wrong because I do agree with israel's defense in the 6 Day War of 1967 and also agree with temporarily occupying nearby land. However, how can one justify the occupation 41 years later? Below is a graphical representation of israel from 1949-1967 (in its original size after formulation in 1948 by the UN) and below that a graphical representation of israel as we know it today. ######you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_politicalthought.files.wordpress(contact admin if its a beneficial link)/2008/02/originalisrael.gif[/img] ######you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_politicalthought.files.wordpress(contact admin if its a beneficial link)/2008/02/currentisrael.gif[/img] israel after being formed in 1948 Current israel Is there a particular reason why a group of people that were left with 22% of their original land (the Palestinians, after the division of land with israel were left with 22% of the land they originally owned) have lost the control of that land to israeli government for the past 41 years. Well perhaps the Palestinian Liberation Organization, which was led by Yasser Arafat for an extended period of time, did something to deserve it? That is what I was shown to believe via the American news-outlets after all isn't it? Well when one takes a look at the true numbers, it becomes much harder to justify the land still being under occupation and even harder to justify the number of deaths that the Palestinians have endured over just the past eight years. Here are the alarming numbers since September 29, 2000: * Injuries suffered by an israeli: 6,845 * Injuries suffered by a Palestinian: 31,815 * israeli deaths: 1,033 (119 of which were children) * Palestinian deaths: 4,437 (971 of which were children) To add to these horrible numbers, one should look at the numbers of Palestinian homes that have been destroyed by the israeli government in order to make more settlements in the occupied territories. Since the database concerning injuries, deaths, and home demolition began on September 29, 2000, there have been over 4100 Palestinian homes destroyed through raids on terrorist planners (which is understandable since there is always collateral damage), but sadly it does not end there. The large majority of these homes have been destroyed in order to silence critics of the israeli government and also to create and expand israeli settlements in the occupied territories. Why should israel matter to anyone here in America that is not a Jew? Well when one thinks about the Middle Eastern dilemma with Islamic extremists who create their own new definition of jihad then it definitely becomes a very important matter. Before entering what should be jihad, let us define what it is not. Jihad does not mean to go out and perform violent acts against Christians, Jews, or any other religion. Instead one must look no further than the Qur'an in chapter 2 verse 62 when Muhammad is told, "Lo! Those who believe (in that which is revealed unto thee, Muhammad), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabaeans - whoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right - surely their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve." Jihad, as defined by the Qur'an and several hadiths is something entirely different from the jihad issued by al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups, which call for war on the West because their influence is corrupting Islam. Jihad is supposed to be against oppressors and tyrannical rule. So then how does israel have anything to do with this? If one takes an objective look at what is going on inside of israeli government and how they impose their will in a negative way on the Palestinian people through various ways then one can see why perhaps the groups supporting violence, such as Hamas, are justified by their supporters. Through oppression such as mandatory checkpoints which stop traffic for hours, cutting off resources to Palestinian hospitals and schools and other means of control, the israeli government itself is creating an atmosphere of despair where the Palestinian people are living inside a caged territory where they are stuck and without a way out. 42% of the Palestinian population is without employment and how can this be fixed if they are cut off from schooling and being able to move to other areas? israel and Palestine must resolve their differences, with israel doing most of the giving. Palestinians are suffering daily and as long as this is happening the ummah (Muslim community across the world) will see the suffering and the very small group that supports violence will continue to do what it feels it must to achieve change. Many suggest that the Palestinians should attempt non-violent movements such as those used by Ghandi in the early 20th century, but how is that possible today when it was tried in the 1970s following the 1967 6-Day War? The United Nations must use its power correctly by doing what it truly must, even if that means issuing resolutions against the UK and USA if they continue to give arms and over $8 Million a day to israel as they continue to add fuel to the fire that has become the volatile region of the Middle East. - Fernando Sources: Findley, Paul. 4. basedas2 we joined same day! How did you know I was called Nando :sl:
  5. May I please be educated on the whole name thing? I do not really understand this yet.
  6. W'S. Hey, today I spoke with my imam and he helped me understand it and perhaps told it more clearly in telling me everyone has free choice and Allah (SWT) will not limit his actions because of our own limitations and also he sends tests our way which could be to decide between the truth and other non-truths. Made sense. Thanks guys! Salam
  7. Wa'alaikum salaam to all my brothers and sisters in Islam. Thank you for all the kind and supporting words from all of you! You may not know it, but each and every one of you here on this forum had a part to do in my decision to revert to Islam. Alhamdulilah, Allah (SWT) knows all and sparked in interest in Islam in me one day by just using Google which made me happen upon Gawaher. umAhmad I will remember you in my prayers and make dua for you as best as my knowledge and abilities permit. I am currently in the process of learning how to pray - Oh how intimidating a process, but all be it for the glory and praise of Allah Almighty (SWT). Salam.
  8. Assalamu alaikum my dear friends in Allah (SWT)! Mash'Allah I have finally converted and am proud to say it! I testified Ashaduan la ilaha illa Llah wa ashaduanna, Muhammadan rasool Allah!" Continue to pray for me. I am a sinner and have weaknesses. My friends thank you for your help and I will continue here. SALAM!
  9. Assalamu alaikum my brothers and sisters in Allah (SWT). This is a question regarding something I recently read. Basically, since Allah is all knowing, why did He create a false illusion of crucification since He would know that the illusion would lead to the largest religion in the world which follows Jesus as part of the trinity. Through this illusion, did it not contribute to what then can be called the largest fraud in the world? I found this point to be rather interesting and something worth talking to all my good friends here about. May Allah (SWT) bless each and every one of you. Salam. Fernando
  10. Islam & Praying For The Dead

Hello! Great responses. I do have some issues with whats been stated. Firstly, when I say saved I mean that God will abolish our sins if we repent and that on Judgement Day we will be with Him. Also, perhaps it is because I carry over ideas from Christianity, but I do not take a personal opinion and put it on the same level of God speaking through the Bible or Qur'an. I understand, I think, that Muhammad (PBUH) was given a great message from God, but because Allah (SWT) gave him a message does this mean Muhammad was all-knowing or is it possible that he still had OPINIONS (meaning although he received messages from Allah (SWT), he was still a sinful creature since he was a HUMAN thus his statements sometimes could be flawed)? I don't understand how I can ask for forgiveness on someone elses behalf? This is somewhat, to me, like the story of Jesus Christ having to die for our sins? How can someone else try to remove my sins if I myself am not the one repenting? Also where can I read in the Qur'an about the hereafter and being "charred". I would like it straight from the Qur'an because although hadiths may have their merit, I do not think hadiths are holy (am I correct in saying this)? A lot of Christians put up books by respected people of God and put it on the same level as the Bible, but to me this creates division. I think the Qur'an should definitely take emphasis over hadiths and if one has to bring up points only through hadiths because the Qur'an is harder to understand, then it does not necessarily make it right. I'm not sure if I've been clear here, I'm very tired and have been studying (awake) for two days now studying for some tests. Salam. Fernando
  11. Islam & Praying For The Dead

I have trouble understanding and accepting this. I suppose this is because I am a Christian, but to me I do not see it as fair that someone can get into heaven by their children praying on their behalf. In Christianity, and it makes good sense to me, you are not saved by what you do. You cannot be saved just by doing right and behaving. You must love God and follow His path and live FOR Him. It is not enough to say, "Oh, but I have been nice and treated others well." You must live and bear His fruits. Why should one be saved through someone else? I must pray about this. Salam.
  12. As salamu alaikum! I know I have been starting many threads lately, but that is only because I am trying to learn about Islam and many thoughts flow into my head through out the day. Anyways, what does Islam say about praying for those who are already dead? Today on Al-Jazeera I read a report where someone in the family of the former president of Indonesia said to pray for him. Why pray for someone who has died? Also when we say PBUH, how are we giving him peace and blessings if they rest? Salam
  13. Music And Islam

I have a problem understanding some of these things. For example, in the Bible when told something is wrong (to my recollection) it always gives a reason why! But I have read some things here which really don't have an explanation. What is wrong with musical instruments if they are being played for the glory of Allah (SWT)?
  14. Music And Islam

As salamu alaikum. Is songs with music (instruments, etc) okay in Islam? Salam
