  1. Salaam Alaikum to the Muslim posters reading this. I was wondering what your opinion is of the hadith below, which states (if I correctly understand, and if I am not please correct me) that the water that a woman excretes when she has an orgasm in her sleep causes children to resemble her. It was narrated from Zainab, the daughter of Umm Salamah, that : Her mother Umm Salamah said: "Umm Sulaim came to the Prophet and asked him about a woman who sees in her dream something like a man sees. He said: 'Yes, if she sees water (discharge), let her take a bath.' I said: 'You have embarrassed the women. Do women experience wet dreams?' The Prophet said: 'May your hands be rubbed with dust, how else does her child resemble her?'" http://sunnah.com/urn/1255990 Do fluids released in a woman's orgasm determine the resemblance of children to parents, or is that genetic information carried by the egg and sperm and determined when they meet? Also, in the hadith below, Muhammad described the water of the woman as "yellow". It was narrated from Anas that: Umm Sulaim asked the Messenger of Allah about a woman who sees in her dream something like that which a man sees. The Messenger of Allah said: "If she sees that and has a discharge, then let her perform a bath." Umm Salamah said: "O Messenger of Allah, does that really happen?" He said: "Yes, the water of the man is thick and white and the water of a woman is thin and yellow. Whichever of them comes first or predominates, the child will resemble (that parent)." http://sunnah.com/urn/1256000 What was this a reference to? If I am not mistaken, the colour of woman's semen is usually white. Thanks so much!
  2. Hashem Al Azzah was a 55 year old Palestinian man who lives in Hebron, who I had the privilege of getting to know last summer in 2014. He and his family have lived in Tel Rumeida, and have suffered horrific harassment from israeli settlers over the timespan of several decades, who did everything possible to get them to move out. Hashem and his wife had been assaulted, and in one attack many years ago, his wife suffered a miscarriage. They have had bullets shot at their home, their grapes poisoned, and from 2000 to 2104, they were denied the right to pick their own olives. Despite this, Hashem did not give up. He ran a community centre in Hebron, which provided free counseling and medical treatment to Palestinian women. He managed to get volunteers from the West to come in and teach young adults as well as children English, and kept a summer school going in which I was able to volunteer at a bit. What I remember most about him was his warm hospitality. Two summers ago, he and his family had me and another ISMer at his home for supper and tea, and then we stayed up all night (until 2 in the morning) drinking tea, talking about politics and history and God. I wrote a blog entry about him and his family, it can be found: http://mighty-stream123.blogspot.ca/2014/08/hashems-neighbours.html What I found very admirable about Hashem is not only his courage, but compassion. Unlike some Palestinians I have spoken to in Hebron, he said he would be fine living with the settlers, even those who have been tyrannizing him and his family as his neighbours... as long as they were equal under the law. He wanted justice, not revenge. Today, his life was ended. Hashem had a heart attack in his house, which is uphill in Tel Rumeida. Only israeli settlers and soldiers and police are allowed to drive there. Palestinians who live there are banned from driving a vehicle. Not even ambulances are allowed in. Because of this rule, Hashem had to be carried downhill by some Palestinian friends, to a square called Bab E Zawiyeh, which is in H1, the part of Hebron that is under Palestinian Authority control. When they got there, they arrived in the midst of clashes between Palestinian young men and youth, and israeli soldiers. The young men and youth were in most likelihood throwing rocks. The soldiers, among their other weapons, were shooting off massive amounts of teargas. Trying to get medical help, Hashem got caught up in the gas cloud. I hope he died quickly, but having experienced teargas several times myself, he probably didn't. In most likelihood, my friend died in great pain and distress, choking and gagging as the fumes invaded his lungs and throat. He probably felt the intense burning inside that the gas creates, and probably felt panic as he began to suffocate. Perhaps his heart gave way sooner and his suffering lasted less, but I have no way of knowing. He died as another Palestinian victim of the violence of the occupation. He should not have died like this, choking to death in gas that he was forced to walk into, because he was not allowed access to an ambulance. He should have died an old man in bed, surrounded by family and friends. Not like this. He joined a large list of Palestinians, who along with a smaller but no less important number of israelis, died in the violence whose root cause I believe is the occupation of Palestine by the israeli government. No one deserves to be teargassed to death. No one deserves to be stabbed. No one deserves to be shot, or beaten to death. I pray that God comforts his family, and the family of every single person, regardless of nationality or religion or ethnicity, who has been killed by violence. Equality and justice for all Palestinians and israelis is the only possible solution. End the occupation!!!! https://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?id=768406
  3. One Of My Friends Was Killed Today

I apologize, when you called israel "democratic and free", I also assumed you believed that applied to their treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank. I apologize and take that back. The Arab states do not get support from most evangelical churches, the state of israel does. Most Palestinians I have spoken to are angry at israel, but they also say they would want to live in peace with israelis. From my last 3 times in the West Bank, I can only remember two people who said they wanted all israelis killed or expelled. Most Palestinians do not want that.
  4. One Of My Friends Was Killed Today

I agree we have no choice as to what families we are born into. We all do have choices as what to do with our lives.
  5. One Of My Friends Was Killed Today

Thank you. The only possible solution is one where Palestinians and israelis will be living in a state or two states where for everyone there is justice and dignity and freedom. Jews and Muslims and Christians all have a history and a place in the Holy Land. The occupation must end, and not be replaced by a reverse one but a truly free and just society.
  6. One Of My Friends Was Killed Today

Tanker, Both Arabs and Jews have lived in this land for milennia, it belongs to both. The Jewish people who fled to it from Europe in the 1800s during the horrific pogroms and bought large parts of it, bought from absentee landlords and Ottomans, but there were other Arabs living there who had to be thrown out and had no say in the matter. The first part of the phrase "a land without a people for a people without a land" was a lie, there were already people living there. The Arab regimes are indeed brutal and corrupt and some are genocidal. I have no love for either the PA or Hamas either. However, to call israeli treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank as "democratic and free" is ignorance at its best and lying at its worst. Have you ever been to the West Bank? I have, three times. Each time I was there I made sure to document the israeli government's "free and democratic" rule of the Palestinian people I met, one of whom was Hashem, who now because of them is dead. www.livingstones-tomasz.blogspot.com www.mighty-stream123.blogspot.com www.hungryandthirstyforjustice.blogspot.com
  7. God's Oath

They certainly were cruelly martyred, but did Jesus return in AD 70?
  8. Salaam alaikum to the Muslim posters. I have been reading some ahadith about keeping dogs, and am interested when, according to Muhammad it is ok to keep one and when it is not. I read the following hadith about people who keep a dog for a purpose other than hunting, guarding an orchard or shepherding will lose either one or two Qirats a day (this looks a bit contradictory to me but this is besides the point) of reward. According to the teachings of Muhammad, are there any other reasons they can be kept? Thanks! Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'If anyone owns a dog except a sheepdog, a hunting dog, or a farm dog, a carat of his reward will be deducted daily." Agreed upon. http://sunnah.com/urn/2016340 Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who kept a dog except one meant for watching the herd, or for hunting or for watching the fields. he lost two qirat of reward every day. Zuhri said: The words of Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) were conveyed to Ibn Umar who said: May Allah have mercy upon Abu Huraira; he owned a field. http://sunnah.com/muslim/22/70
  9. God's Oath

I'll start off with just one example. Matthew10:21-23 21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of israel before the Son of Man comes. The disciples passed away almost 2 milennia ago, and I am unaware of any part of Palestine or israel that Christians have not been in at some point. Unfortunately, this was a false prophecy.
  10. God's Oath

These are the reasons why I haven't fully left my Christian faith. The Bible is correct about these things, but wrong in its claim that Jesus is God, and it attributes to God things He didn't say.
  11. God's Oath

According to the Biblical perspective this is true... but how do you know the Bible is correct?
  12. God's Oath

Why can't God swear on things inferior to Himself?
  13. Sorry tanker for waiting so long to respond. Yes, to me for the purpose of this discussion, a mistake and an error mean the same thing. There are many explanations for the passage I listed, and I believe all the ones so far I have seen are false. If you want to try to explain why Matthew 10:21-23 is not in error, please do so and we can discuss. As to what kind of Christian I am... I used to consider myself evangelical when I believed that the Bible is 100% correct and true and infallible and believed Jesus is God, right now I still go to an evangelical church but don't believe these things anymore and I don't know whether I am still a Christian. I guess I call myself one because I've found no other label that I would want to be called.
  14. I've read various explanations of it, which ones do you want to examine specifically that you think clarify the error? You said that the presence of "rational explanations" (please list which ones, btw) implies there are no mistakes, or that we have a misunderstanding. Funnily enough, people of other religions will say the exact same things when inconsistencies and mistakes in their holy books are presented. If the presence of rational explanations means there is no error, then every single religion is right! Is this what you believe?
  15. Hi tanker, If you want to see errors I have commented on from the Quran and the hadiths (there are far more of them in the hadiths, but that still poses a problem because the Quran says Muhammad is a prophet yet in some of his prophetic teachings there are clear errors), you can see the links below. From the hadiths: http://www.gawaher.com/topic/740416-signs-of-the-judgment-day-muhammed-prophecies-about-future/?p=1287457 http://www.gawaher.com/topic/742404-where-will-the-dajjal-emerge-from/ From the Quran: http://www.gawaher.com/topic/742253-question-about-4615/ Regarding errors from the Bible, I will list for now just one of the sadly very many.
  16. Salaam alaikum to the Muslim posters. I've been reading some ahadith about Dajjal, who Muhammad claims is the Anti-Christ, and will come to the earth and cause great destruction before Jesus kills him. I was reading some sahih hadiths about him, and am wondering where he will come from. There seem to be several different locations from where he is said to be destined to "emerge". According to the hadith below, he is chained up on an island in the ocean or sea, and is waiting to be released. Amir b. Sharahil Sha'bi Sha'b Hamdan reported that he asked Fatima, daughter of Qais and sister of ad-Dahhak b. Qais and she was the first amongst the emigrant women: Narrate to me a hadith which you had heard directly from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and there is no extra link in between them. She said: Very well, if you like, I am prepared to do that, and he said to her: Well, do It and narrate that to me. She said: I married the son of Mughira and he was a chosen young man of Quraish at that time, but he fell as a martyr in the first Jihad (fighting) on the side of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). When I became a widow, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Auf, one amongst the group of the Companions of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), sent me the proposal of marriage. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) also sent me such a message for his freed slave Usama b. Zaid. And it had been conveyed to me that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had said (about Usama): He who loves me should also love Usama. When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) talked to me (about this matter), I said: My affairs are in your hand. You may marry me to anyone whom you like. He said: You better shift now to the house of Umm Sharik, and Umm Sharik was a rich lady from amongst the Ansar. She spent generously for the cause of Allah and entertained guests very hospitably. I said: Well, I will do as you like. He said: Do not do that for Umm Sharik is a woman who is very frequently visited by guests and I do not like that your head may be uncovered or the cloth may be removed from your shank and the strangers may catch sight of them which you abhor. You better shift to the house of your cousin 'Abdullah b. 'Amr b. Umm Maktum and he is a person of the Bani Fihr branch of the Quraish, and he belonged to that tribe (to which Fatima) belonged. So I shifted to that house, and when my period of waiting was over, I heard the voice of an announcer making an announcement that the prayer would be observed in the Masjid (where) congregational prayer (is observed). So I set out towards that Masjid and observed prayer along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and I was in the row of the women which was near the row of men. When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had finished his prayer, he sat on the pulpit smiling and said: Every worshipper should keep sitting at his place. He then said: Do you know why I had asked you to assemble? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: By Allah. I have not made you assemble for exhortation or for a warning, but I have detained you here, for Tamim Dari, a Christian, who came and accepted Islam, told me something, which agrees with what I was telling, you about the Dajjal. He narrated to me that he had sailed in a ship along with thirty men of Bani Lakhm and Bani Judham and had been tossed by waves in the ocean for a month. Then these (waves) took them (near) the land within the ocean (island) at the time of sunset. They sat in a small side-boat and entered that island. There was a beast with long thick hair (and because of these) they could not distinguish his face from his back. They said: Woe to you, who can you be? Thereupon it said: I am al-Jassasa. They said: What is al-Jassasa? And it said: O people, go to this person in the monastery as he is very much eager to know about you. He (the narrator) said: When it named a person for us we were afraid of it lest it should be a devil. Then we hurriedly went on till we came to that monastery and found a well-built person there with his hands tied to his neck and having iron shackles between his two legs up to the ankles. We said: Woe be upon thee, who are you? And he said: You would soon come to know about me. but tell me who are you. We said: We are people from Arabia and we embarked upon a boat but the sea-waves had been driving us for one month and they brought as near this island. We got Into the side-boats and entered this island and here a beast met us with profusely thick hair and because of the thickness of his hair his face could not be distinguished from his back. We said: Woe be to thee, who are you? It said: I am al- Jassasa. We said: What is al-Jassasa? And it said: You go to this very person in the monastery for he is eagerly waiting for you to know about you. So we came to you in hot haste fearing that that might be the Devil. He (that chained person) said: Tell me about the date-palm trees of Baisan. We said: About what aspect of theirs do you seek information? He said: I ask you whether these trees bear fruit or not. We said: yes. Thereupon he said: I think these would not bear fruits. He said: Inform me about the lake of Tabariyya? We said: Which aspect of it do you want to know? He said: Is there water in it? They said: There is abundance of water in it. Thereupon he said: I think it would soon become dry. He again said: Inform me about the spring of Zughar. They said: Which aspect of it you want to know? He (the chained person) said: Is there water in it and does it irrigate (the land)? We said to him: Yes, there is abundance of water in it and the inhabitants (of Medina) irrigate (land) with the help of it, He said: Inform me about the unlettered Prophet; what has he done? We said: He has come out from Mecca and has settled In Yathrib (Medina). He said: Do the Arabs fight against him? We said: Yes. He said: How did he deal with them? We informed him that he had overcome those in his neighbourhood and they had submitted themselves before him. Thereupon he said to us: Has it actually happened? We said: Yes. Thereupon he said: If it is so that is better for them that they should show obedience to him. I am going to tell you about myself and I am Dajjal and would be soon permitted to get out and so I shall get out and travel in the land, and will not spare any town where I would not stay for forty nights except Mecca and Medina as these two (places) are prohibited (areas) for me and I would not make an attempt to enter any one of these two. An angel with a sword in his hand would confront me and would bar my way and there would be angels to guard every passage leading to it; then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) striking the pulpit with the help of the end of his staff said: This implies Taiba meaning Medina. Have I not, told you an account (of the Dajjal) like this? 'The people said: Yes, and this account narrated by Tamim Dari was liked by me for it corroborates the account which I gave to you in regard to him (Dajjal) at Medina and Mecca. Behold he (Dajjal) is in the Syrian sea (Mediterranean) or the Yemen sea (Arabian sea). Nay, on the contrary, he is in the east, he is in the east, he is in the east, and he pointed with his hand towards the east. I (Fatima bint Qais) said: I preserved it in my mind (this narration from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). http://sunnah.com/muslim/54/149 According to this hadith, he will emerge from Khorasan. It was narrated that Abu Bakr Siddiq said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told us: 'Dajjal will emerge in a land in the east called Khorasan, and will be followed by people with faces like hammered shields.'" http://sunnah.com/ibnmajah/36/147 Yet according to this hadith, he will emerge from between Iraq and Syria. Nawwas bin Sam'an Al-Kilabi said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mentioned Dajjal, one morning, as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees. When we came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the evening, he saw that (fear) in us, and said: 'What is the matter with you?' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned Dajjal this morning, and you spoke of him as something despised but also alarming, until we thought that he was in the stand of date-palm trees.' He said: 'There are things that I fear more for you than the Dajjal. If he appears while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf, and if he appears when I am not among you, then each man must fend for himself, and Allah will take care of every Muslim on my behalf. He (Dajjal) will be a young man with curly hair and a protuberant eye; I liken him to 'Abdul-'Uzza bin Qatan. Whoever among you sees him, let him recite the first Verses of Surat Al-Kahf over him. He will emerge from Khallah, between Sham and Iraq, and will wreak havoc right and left. O slaves of Allah, remain steadfast.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how long will he stay on earth?' He said: 'Forty days, one day like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of his days like your days.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, on that day which is like a year, will the prayers of one day suffice us?' He said: 'Make an estimate of time (and then observe prayer).' We said: 'How fast will he move through the earth?' He said: 'Like a rain cloud driving by the wind.' He said: 'He will come to some people and call them, and they will respond and believe in him. Then he will command the sky to rain and it will rain, and he will command the earth to produce vegetation and it will do so, and their flocks will come back in the evening with their humps taller, their udders fuller and their flanks fatter than they have ever been. Then he will come to some (other) people and call them, and they will reject him, so he will turn away from them and they will suffer drought and be left with nothing. Then he will pass through the wasteland and will say: "Bring forth your treasures," then go away, and its treasures will follow him like a swarm of bees. Then he will call a man brimming with youth and will strike him with a sword and cut him in two. He will put the two pieces as far apart as the distance between an archer and his target. Then he will call him and he will come with his face shining, laughing. While they are like that, Allah will send 'Eisa bin Maryam, who will come down at the white minaret in the east of Damascus, wearing two Mahrud[garment dyed with Wars and then Saffron], resting his hands on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, beads of perspiration will fall from it. Every disbeliever who smells the fragrance of his breath will die, and his breath will reach as far as his eye can see. Then he will set out and catch up with him (the Dajjal) at the gate of Ludd, and will kill him. Then the Prophet of Allah 'Eisa will come to some people whom Allah has protected, and he will wipe their faces and tell them of their status in Paradise. While they are like that, Allah will reveal to him: "O 'Eisa, I have brought forth some of My slaves whom no one will be able to kill, so take My slaves to Tur in safety." Then Gog and Magog will emerge and they will, as Allah describes, "swoop down from every mound."[21:96] The first of them will pass by lake Tiberias and drink from it, then the last of them will pass by it and will say: "There was water here once." The Prophet of Allah, 'Eisa and his companions will be besieged there until the head of an ox would be dearer to any one of them than one hundred Dinar are to any one of you today. Then, the Prophet of Allah, 'Eisa and his companions will supplicate Allah. Then Allah will send a worm in their necks and the next morning they will all die as one. The Prophet of Allah 'Eisa and his companions will come down and they will not find even the space of a hand span that is free of their stink, stench and blood. They will pray to Allah, and He will send birds with necks like the necks of Bactrian camels, which will pick them up and throw them wherever Allah wills. Then Allah will send rain which will not leave any house of clay or hair, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it like a mirror (or a smooth rock). Then it will be said to the earth: "Bring forth your fruits and bring back your blessing." On that day a group of people will eat from a (single) pomegranate and it will suffice them, and they will seek shelter beneath its skin. Allah will bless a milch- camel so that it will be sufficient for a large number of people, and a milch-cow will be sufficient for a whole tribe and a milch-ewe will be sufficient for a whole clan. While they are like that, Allah will send a pleasant wind which will seize them beneath their armpits and will take the soul of every Muslim, leaving the rest of the people fornicating like donkeys, and upon them will come the Hour.'" http://sunnah.com/ibnmajah/36/150 Where will the Dajjal come from? An island in the ocean? Khorassan? Or between Syria and Iraq? Also, where is Khallah? Can anyone find it on a map?
  17. The Bible is a great book. It tells us about God who loves us, and has some great stories in it. It also has a lot of mistakes, a lot more than the Quran and probably on the same level as the hadiths. The Bible states Jesus is God and tells us he was awesome and did great things. I believe he was an amazing guy who loved God and followed Him, but he also made some scientific errors in his teachings and some of his prophecies did not come true.
  18. Question About 46:15

Salaam Alaikum. I have a question for Muslims about verse 46:15. Among other things, the verse states that gestation and weaning is 30 months. 46:15 And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims." Weaning in the Quran, if I am not mistaken, is described to take place within a 2 year period. 31:14 And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. If weaning is in two years and gestation and weaning takes 30 months, it would follow that according to the Quran, a child spends 6 months or more in the womb. Why would the Quran's author say this, if most people are born after 9 months in the womb? Thank you.
  19. Question About 46:15

Salaam alaikum Gohar, and thank you for your patience. Sorry to have kept you waiting this long. Yes, this is a good summary of what you and I have said so far. If I understand your points correctly, the 30 month figure is a sensible approximation and a recommended duration of pregnancy and breastfeeding period. Parents should aim for a 30 month gestation+weaning, but God is flexible in this regard, and they were not intended to be exact. Why would God set a figure of 30 months for gestation and weaning? Also, how do you think it is possible that Muslim jurists would have misunderstood these verses to mean that the minimum length of pregnancy is 6 months, and actually make a law stating that if a woman delivers a sound child prior to that time, the child could not be traced to the husband? Fatwa No : 137526 The minimum term of pregnancy according to the Quran Fatwa Date : Rajab 23, 1431 / 5-7-2010 Question Bismillah Assalaamuu Alaikum warahamatuhlahi wbarakatuh! I am being tediously harassed with this question from the kufar. Can you please send me an answer as soon as possible. "The Koran provides that the length of a normal gestation (pregnancy) is six months (Luqman 31:14; al-Baqarah 2:233; al-Ahqaf 46:15). Luqman 31:14 and al-Baqarah 2:233 provide a nursing period of 24 months. Al-Ahqaf 46:15 provides a total of 30 months for both gestation and nursing combined. This leaves only six months for the period of gestation. We know that this is not true. Normal gestation lasts nine months. Can you explain this error?" May Allah bless you and reward you. Answer All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. What the Quran states that the period of pregnancy is six month is correct and you should not say that it is wrong, because the pregnancy has its maximum period and its minimum period. The maximum period of pregnancy is nine months as it is well-known, and its minimum period is six months. There are some women who give birth when she is only six or seven or eight months pregnant, and the born child lives. Allaah, The Most Exalted and The Most High, clarified to us the minimum period of pregnancy because there are some religious rulings that apply to it, like establishing the lineage of a child or denying it, inheritance, divorce, the waiting period and the like. Among these issues, is that if a woman gives birth to a child five months after marrying her, then the new-born is not traced back to the husband. Therefore, it is not permissible to describe what is mentioned in the Quran as being wrong. Rather, what the Quran states that the minimum period of pregnancy is six months is confirmed by modern science, that the fetus may be born at the age of six months and it can live, and this is what is called a premature baby. Moreover, medical evidence proves that the fetus that is born before a full six months period does not live. Finally, we advise you to avoid debating with the non-Muslims if you do not have enough religious knowledge in to refute their misconceptions. Allaah Knows best. http://www.islamweb.net/emainpage/index.php?page=showfatwa&Option=FatwaId&Id=137526 The table on page 5 of the document shows that prior to 28 weeks, there are no proper sucking efforts or propulsive motility in the gut. How could a baby who is unable to suck or properly digest food be able to drink milk? I was unable to copy and paste from the document, so below, I have copied down information from the table. Table 1 Maturation of oral feeding skills and the choice of initial feeding method in LBW infants5 Gestational age Maturation of feeding skills Initial feeding method < 28 weeks No proper sucking efforts No propulsive motility in the gut Intravenous fluids 28-31 weeks Sucking bursts develop No coordination between suck/swallow and breathing Oro-gastric (or naso-gastric) tube feeding with occasional spoon/paladai feeding 32-34 weeks Slightly mature sucking pattern Coordination between breathing and swallowing begins Feeding by spoon/paladai/cup >34 weeks Mature sucking pattern More coordination between breathing and swallowing Breastfeeding I read another medical paper, which states that preterm infants are able to start oral feeding by the time they are 32 weeks, though most start at 34 weeks. Tongue cupping is seen by 28 weeks, and is limited to moving forward and backward. True suckling begins around the 18th to 24th week and is characterized by a distinct backward and forward movement of the tongue. The frequency of suckling motions can be altered by taste. Taste buds are evident at 7 weeks' gestation. By 12 weeks' gestation, distinctively mature receptors are noted. Self oral-facial stimulation usually precedes suckling and swallowing. Tongue cupping is seen by 28 weeks' gestation. This backward and forward movement of the tongue in suckling is all that can be expected because the tongue fills the oral cavity at this stage of development. Backward movement appears more pronounced than forward movement. Tongue protrusion does not extend beyond the border of the lips. Serial ultrasound images have shown that suckling motions increase in frequency in the later months of fetal life.3 By 34 weeks' gestation, a healthy preterm infant likely suckles and swallows well enough to sustain nutrition strictly through oral feedings. Some healthy preterm infants may be ready to begin oral feeding by 32 to 33 weeks' gestation. http://www.nature.com/gimo/contents/pt1/full/gimo17.html#close Looking forward to hearing back from you, my friend. 20. Question About 46:15

Salaam alaikum, Gohar, and thank you for your post. I am reading it and inshAllah will respond in a few days. Take care and thank you.
  21. Today, as every Friday, there were violent clashes taking place in Kafr Kaddum, the village where for years people have been fighting for the right to use their own road. Three year old Maram Abed al-Latif al-Qaddumi was standing on her balcony. Maybe she was playing. Maybe she was resting. Maybe she was watching the chaos taking place. She was certainly not taking part in the demonstration. To the soldiers, no doubt enraged by the boys and young men throwing rocks and refusing to retreat from the teargas and live ammunition and skunk water and "rubber bullets", it didn't matter. One of them evidently saw her, took aim, and fired. Shot with a rubber coated steel bullet, she was hit in the head, and began bleeding heavily. Her father rushed her to an ambulance. He was shot also. Fortunately, after a few hours they were released. Thank God she is alive. I have a hard time even beginning to imagine how much hatred it must take to be able to shoot a rubber bullet at a toddler. Praying for peace and justice. There needs to be a situation where both Palestinians and israelis live in freedom and equality, and where no parent has to live with the fear that his or her child may be shot. http://palsolidarity.org/2015/09/3-year-old-daughter-of-nablus-police-chief-shot-in-face-in-kafr-qaddum-demonstration/
  22. To address another point you made and that I earlier forgot to address, you described the sun's rising and setting places as a matter of the unseen, like the sun prostrating before God's Throne. I would respond by saying that God's Throne is a matter of the Unseen. The West, where its "setting place" allegedly is, is not, and Muhammad claimed that the people will see the sun rising from that place.
  23. God's Oath

    And your point here is?...
  24. Hi Tunisia, Peace be with you. If the moderators believe this to be the case, they will place the thread where it is appropriate. The thread is under a section called "Islamic Western Dialogue". This is certainly taking place, although despite the fact I live in North America, my place of birth is Poland. :)
  25. Salaam alaikum, Muslim4life7. How can it be a matter of the unseen whether or not the sun goes to a "rising place" or "setting place"? It is easily observed by astronomers, and there are no such places it travels to, nor does it set or rise on anything. Thanks for pointing out the verse in Ecclesiastes. As a Christian, I used to believe the Bible is completely and entirely free from error, however the more I have discussed it and read it the more I have realized this is not the case. There are many scientific and historical errors in the Bible, as well as contradictions. Acknowledging that the Bible has errors is not a dilemna for me of any sort, and it doesn't save Muhammad's teachings either. The error in Ecclesiastes is a good example, but later on I will show you another one that is actually even more relevant to the hadiths. You stated that the saying that the sun rises and sets is just a metaphorical meaning, and compared it to the saying "it is raining cats and dogs". Here is the problem with this defense, however: The expression "it is raining cats and dogs" is a 20th century saying, and people know during this time that it does not rain pets. On the contrary, during the medieval ages, it was widely accepted and believed that the sun orbits around the earth and the terms "sunrise" and "sunset" were understood to literally mean just that. The Fall of the Geocentric Theory, and the Rise of HeliocentrismThe geocentric theory reached its pinnacle with the system devised by Ptolemy. Ptolemy's geocentric theory continued to be the system of choice as the Roman empire succeeded that of the Greeks. With the fall of the Roman empire (circa 450 AD), it was left to the Arabs to keep the Ptolemaic view of the universe alive. In 622 AD, the Prophet Mohammed launched his holy war against the infidels. Within a century, the Islamic Empire extended eastwards across northern India to the borders of China, and westwards across Asia Minor, to north Africa. With the Arabic conquest of Spain and Sicily, the empire made it into western Europe. Alexandria (Egypt), the center of classical learning, fell to the Arabs in 642. When the period of military expansion ended, Islamic scholars became enthusiastic students of classical philosophy. Many important manuscripts were translated from Greek into Arabic. In the world of medieval Islam, Aristotle and Ptolemy were the supreme authorities in matters of natural science and astronomy. They continued to make observations, and to refine the data that went into the model while streamlining/advancing some of the calculation techniques. But they did not make any modifications to the underlying philosophy.1 "In 999 AD, Gerbert of Aurillac, the most accomplished mathematician, musician, astronomer and classical scholar in Europe, ascended to the papal throne as Sylvester II, known as 'the magician Pope' to his contemporaries. His papacy, at the symbolic date 1000 AD marks the turning point of the European 'dark ages'. Contact was established with Arabic centers of learning in Spain, where Muslim, Christian and Jewish scholars congregated. During the following centuries, Hebrew and Arabic versions of ancient Greek texts were translated into Latin and began to circulate in Europe. The works of Aristotle were translated from around 1200. The translation of Ptolemy's Almagest into Latin in 1175 re-vitalised European astronomy. King Alfonso X of Castile (1122-1184) commissioned new astronomical tables calculated according to Ptolemy's theory with Arabic mathematical refinements. Completed in 1252, the Alphonsine Tables remained the best astronomical tables available in Europe for the next three centuries. The complexities of the Ptolemaic system exasperated King Alfonso however. When the intricacies of epicycles, deferents and equants were explained to him Alfonso 'the Wise' is said to have remarked that if the Almighty had consulted him on the matter, he would have recommended something a little simpler... "1 Eventually, with the re-emergence of European learning in the 13th century, the geocentric view of the universe would be adopted by the Catholic church. It is interesting that in the early European universities, Ptolemy's theory was relegated to the world of mathematics, calendars, and astrology. It was purely a mechanical model of the celestial motion, and not the "true" nature of the universe as described by Aristotle. The latter would be given a more revered place in higher learning, and especially in questions of philosophy and theology. http://astronomy.nmsu.edu/tharriso/ast105/Ast105week04.html As we can see, the geocentric model was during Muhammad's time something that was widely accepted. Secondly, if I were to just say "it is raining cats and dogs", that would be one thing. If I began to describe what kind of canines and felines will be dropping from the clouds, or at what angle they will fall, it would become very clear that I was not simply using an expression. In the hadith we examined, Muhammad did not merely say the sun will rise from the West. He stated that it travels to and from "a rising place" and that one day it will rise from "a setting place". What would be the point of describing the sun's movement to and from these "places" if he didn't believe they existed? Lastly, to the errors in the Bible concerning the sun's alleged rising and setting. Joshua 10:12-14 describes an event during which God allegedly made the sun stop moving, making it remain in the sky, until the israelites led by Joshua defeated their enemies. 12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to israel, Joshua said to the Lordin the presence of israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” 13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on[b] its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lordlistened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for israel! https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua+10&version=NIV Of course, we know that the sun did not "stand still" nor was it "delayed going down", since the sun "rising" and "setting" is independent of its movement but is dependent on the movement of the earth. If the day did indeed last an extra 24 hours, this would have been caused by the earth stopping, not the sun. Why is this relevant? Well, believe it or not, Muhammad repeated the same story. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "A prophet amongst the prophets carried out a holy military expedition, so he said to his followers, 'Anyone who has married a woman and wants to consummate the marriage, and has not done so yet, should not accompany me; nor should a man who has built a house but has not completed its roof; nor a man who has sheep or shecamels and is waiting for the birth of their young ones.' So, the prophet carried out the expedition and when he reached that town at the time or nearly at the time of the `Asr prayer, he said to the sun, 'O sun! You are under Allah's Order and I am under Allah's Order O Allah! Stop it (i.e. the sun) from setting.' It was stopped till Allah made him victorious. Then he collected the booty and the fire came to burn it, but it did not burn it. He said (to his men), 'Some of you have stolen something from the booty. So one man from every tribe should give me a pledge of allegiance by shaking hands with me.' (They did so and) the hand of a man got stuck over the hand of their prophet. Then that prophet said (to the man), 'The theft has been committed by your people. So all the persons of your tribe should give me the pledge of allegiance by shaking hands with me.' The hands of two or three men got stuck over the hand of their prophet and he said, "You have committed the theft.' Then they brought a head of gold like the head of a cow and put it there, and the fire came and consumed the booty. The Prophet (ﷺ) added: Then Allah saw our weakness and disability, so he made booty legal for us." http://sunnah.com/bukhari/57/33 Although the prophet in this case was not named, he addressed the sun and he asked God to "stop it" from setting. The sun was allegedly "stopped". Of course, as we know, if anything like this ever were to happen, it would have been caused by the earth, not the sun, having stopped moving. Both Muhammad and the author of the Book of Joshua believed that "sun rise" and "sun set" are determined by the movement of the sun, and both the hadiths and certain parts of the Bible clearly reflect that. Looking forward to hearing back from you, thank you for this discussion.
