  1. Meeting With A Scholar

    Meeting with a Scholar[using large font size is not allowed] We were standing underneath the scorching Sun waiting for a taxi, here in Madeenah any person with a car usually pulls over and picks you up taking you wherever you wish to go, the grandchildren of the Sahabah are very welcoming unlike the blazing sun. Today was a special day we had been invited to the house of one of the scholars of Madeenah, this wasnt something unusual, however any chance you had in the presence of the inheritors of the Prophets was truly a blessing. We finally managed to jump into a car and got ourselves to the masjid of the Shaykh, since he was very busy we decided to sit in the masjid and wait for the Dhuhr Salah, after we finished praying he came into the masjid with a big smile and greeted us all and then said excuse me I did not manage to pray my sunnah prayers and in a swift manner he prayed all six units of salah whilst we sat and waited. I remember thinking to myself this is the biggest difference between a true scholar and us. As soon as he finished his salah he turned towards us and told us to come with him to his house we followed him and as we walked he kept asking about how we were and how the studies at the Uni were going, and if any silence ever fell upon us he would quickly fill it with Dhikr. Stepping into his humble abode was amazing, books everywhere and I mean literally everywhere! I used to think I had many books but my collection was nothing compared to the Shaykhs. The Shaykh left us for a short while only to come back with smoke coming out of the bottom of his thowb, we were kinda shocked, but later on we found out that this is a custom the arabs have, they stand with their thowb above some burning ‘ood and let the smoky fragrance enter their clothes. As we sat there talking about matters of the religion the Shaykhs beautiful young son came with dates and coffee, the hospitality of the Shaykh can’t be describe with words, he kept repeating, will you not eat? Please have some more! It made me remember the story of Ibraaheem in the Quran. The more I studied the Shaykh, specially his face, the more I saw the fatigue and how tired he seemed and I realised seeking knowledge does not come with ease and if a person truly is sincere he will stay up many a nights reading and writing. The Shaykh offered to drive us back home to the uni campus but we told him we’d take a taxi and that we didn’t want to burden him any more, the Shaykh looked at us and smiled saying: “Burden?! You are our guests here in Madeenah, having left your families and friends to seek knowledge, it is a privilege to serve you†We kissed him on his forehead and said: “O Noble Shaykh!   2. Abdullaah bin Mubaarak - may Allah have mercy upon him - said: I sat out for hajj to the sacred house of Allah and visiting the masjid of His Prophet may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. As I was in the road, I suddenly saw a black figure and when I managed to distinguish it I realised it was an old woman wearing a garment and a headscarf made out of cotton, I said to her: "Assalaamu 'Alyka Warahmatullahi Wabaraktuh" She replied, "Salaamun qawlan min rabi-Raheem [Peace: a word from a Merciful Lord.]" He [ibn Mubaarak] said: I said to her, may Allah have mercy upon you! What are you doing here [lost]? She replied: "Wa man yudlililAllah fa la haadiya lah [Whomsoever Allah causes to err, there is no guide for him]" So from that I understood that she was lost, so I asked her where do you want to go? She replied: "Subhaanalathee asraa bi 'abdihi laylan minal masjid-il-haraami ilal masjid al-aqsaa [Glory be to Him Who made His servant go on a night from Masjid al-Haraam to Masjid al-Aqsaa] I understood that she had finished her hajj and wanted to return to Masjid al-Aqsaa. Then I asked her how long had she been in this place? She replied, "Thalaatha layaalin sawiyya [three nights while in sound health.]" I told her I do not see any food with you that you eat? She replied "Huwa yut'imunee wa yasqeen [He (Allah) gives me to eat and gives me to drink] So I asked her what do you use for wudhu? She said, "Fa inlam tajiduu maa-an fatayamamu sa'eedan tayyiba [and if you cannot find water, betake yourselves to pure earth and wipe your faces and your hands therewith] I told her I have some food with me, would you like to eat? She replied "Thumma atimuu as-siyaama ila al-layl [then complete your fasting until the night] I said to her this is not the month of Ramadan, she replied "wa man tadawa'a khayraan fa inAllaha shaakirun 'aleem [and whoever volunters in goodness then verily Allah is thankful, knowing] I told her it is permissible to break your fast during travel, she replied "wa an tasuumu khayrun lakum in kuntum ta'lamuun [and fasting is better for you if you but knew] I said, why do you not talk to me in the same way i speak to you [i.e meaning without Qur'aan] she replied "ma yalfidu min qawlin ila ladeyhi raqeebun 'ateed [he utters not a word but there is by him a watcher at hand(meaning the angels are with the human recording his speech and deeds all the time.)] I said from what people are you? She replied "wala taqfu ma laysa laka bihi 'ilmun inna sam'a wal basara wal-fu'aada kul olaaika kaana 'anhu mas uulah [and follow not that of which you have not the knowledge; surely the hearing and the sight and the heart, all of these, shall be questioned about that.]" I said I have made a mistake so please forgive me, she replied "la tathreeba 'alykum al-yawma yaghfirulllahu lakum [no blame shall be upon you this day may Allah forgive you] I said will you allow me to carry you on my camel? She said "wa maa taf'aluu min khayrin ya'lamhulAllah [whatever good you do Allah is aware] so my camel sat down. She said "Qul lil mu'mineena yaghudhu min absaarihim [tell the believing men to lower their gaze] so I lowered my gaze and told her climb up on the camel and as she was about to climb up on it the camel rose up and tore her clothes where upon she said "Wa ma asaabakum min museebatin fabima kasabat aydeekum [and whatever calamity afflicts you it is due to your own deeds] I told her wait until I tie the camel and she replied "Fa fahamnaaha Suleymaan [so We made Sulaiman to understand it] After I tied the camel I told her climb ontop of it, when she did she said "Subhaanalathee sakhara lana haatha wa ma kunna lahu mugrineen wa inna ila Rabina lamunqalibun [Glory be to Him Who made this subservient to us and we were not able to do it and surely to our Lord we must return.] I grabbed hold of the reigns of the camel and started to walk quickly and making loud noise, she said "Waqsid fee mashyika waghdud min sawtik [And pursue the right course in your going about and lower your voice] then I started walking slowly and humming poetry, she said "Faqra'uu maa tayasara min al-Quraan" [Recite whatever is easy for you from the Quraan] I told her I have been given goodness in plenty, she said "Wa maa yatathakaru ila olul al-baab [and none but those with understanding comprehend this] After having walked with her for a bit I asked her, do you have a husband? She replied "Yaa ayyuha al-latheena aamanu laa tasa'alu 'an ashyaa-a inn tubda lakum tasu'kum [o you who believe do not ask about matters if made plain to you may cause you harm] So I remained silent and did not speak to her until we reached her caravan. I said to her who do you have [from family] amongst this caravan? She replied "Al-maalu wal-banuuna zeenatul hayaati dunya [Wealth and children are the beauty of this world] So I understood that she had children, I asked her what are their duties in hajj? She replied "Wa 'alaamaatin wa bi najmi hum yahtaduun [And as signs and through the stars they are guided] So I understood that they must be guides for the people. Then I saw small huts and buildings so I asked her about her children's names, she replied "WattakhadaAllahu Ibraheema khaleela [Allah took Ibraheem as his khaleel] "WakalamAllahu Muusa takleema" [And Allah spoke directly to Muusa] "Ya Yahya khudil kitaaba bi quwwa [o Yahya grab hold of the scripture firmly] So then I called out O Ibraheem, Muusa, Yahya! And suddenly three young boys looking like moons [in beauty] came towards us and when they got ready to sit down their mother said "Fab'athuu ahadakum biwariqikum haathihi ilal madeenati falyanthur ayuha azka ta'aaman falyatikum birizqin minhu [send one of you with this money to the town and let him look for the best food and let him then bring that food] One of the boys went and came back with the food putting it infront of me, his mother told me "Kuluu washrabu hanee-an bima aslaftum fee al-ayyaam al-khaaliyyah [Eat and drink joyfuly because of what you used to do in days past] I said, right now your food is haraam upon me until you inform me about her affair [i.e why she only speaks through the Quraan] They said: This is our mother, she has been like this since 40 years back, not speaking anything but Quraan, fearing that she might otherwise err and thus cause ar-Rahmaan [Allah] to be displeased with her. So Glory be to al-Qaadir [Allah] for this.   3. Which Qira Do You Read In?

    :D I am aware that many of the members wont probably recognise the difference, but as a small guideline, If you read like Shuraim and Sudais and the other imams then your style is Hafs 3an Asim, which I would presume most of the brothers and sisters read. The other Qirats are read throught the world some being more pro-dominant in East Africa and other such places. Here is a small article for those interested. THE AHRUF First there is the issue nof Ahruf (dialects/modes). The Qur'an was revealed in seven ahruf, as is proved in many mutawaatir ahadith. This was because different tribes pronounced and spelled words differently. The forms matched the dialects of following seven tribes: 1.Quraysh 2.Hudhayl 3.Thaqîf 4.Hawâzin 5.Kinânah 6.Tamîm 7.Yemen The revelation of the Qur'an in seven different ahruf made its recitation and memorization much easier for the various tribes. At the same time the Qur'an challenged them to produce a surah like it in their own dialect so that they would not complain about the incomprehensibility. Regarding whether or not these ahruf have been preserved, there are three opinions, the strongest being that of Ibn Taymiyyah, Ash-Shatibee, Ar-Raazi, Ibn Katheer and Ibn Al-Jazaree and many others. They say that when Uthman rd was compiling the Qur'an, he had Zaib ibn Thabit record it without the vowelation and consonants to accomodate the different Ahruf. At some points where the ahruf differed greatly, they recorded it according to the Quraysh dialect. There are 4 benefits which show the Wisdom of Allah revealing the Qur'an in seven ahruf: 1. To facilitate the memorization of the Qur'an. The arabs did not all speak arabic in the same way. The ahruf eased the memorization and was significant in the preservation of the Qur'an. 2. To prove the miraculous nature of the Qur'an. For despite all the differences, the meaning of the Ahruf did not contradict one another, but rather were complimentary. 3. To prove the truthfulness of the Prophet Muhammad saws, for despite the fact that he was illiterate, the revelation of the Qur'an occured in different tribal dialects and different words, all of which consisted of the most fluent and eloquent speech of his time. 4. To honour the ummah of the Prophet Muhammad saws and show its superiority over all other nations. THE QIRA'AT Qira'at refers to the various manners of reciting the Qur'an. Each qiraa'a has its OWN rules of tajweed. In Murattal, it is not necessary to emphasize every vowel in clarity as it is in Mujawwad. Each qira'at is named after the Qari who was famous in reciting in that manner. There are many different Qira'at, but Ibn Mujahid wrote a book on the seven most prominent. He did this on purpose to match the seven ahruf, but some people don't know that there are more than 7 qira'at. In fact, there are ten authentic Qira'at. For a qira'at to be authentic there are very detailed rules which we could discuss later if any wishes. Here are the ten Qira'at with their famous Qaris: 1. Naafi' Al-Madanee. (Madinah) Imam Malik recited in this manner. Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal often recited in this manner. The 2 Qaris who preserved this recitation are Qaloon and Warsh. 2. Ibn Katheer al-Makee. (Makkah) Imam Shafi recited in this manner. The 2 Qaris who preserved this recitation are Al-Buzzee and Qumbul. 3.Abu Amr al-Basri (Basra) The 2 Qaris who preserved this recitation are Ad-Doori and As-Soosee. 4. Ibn Aamir ash-Shami (Syria) The 2 Qaris who preserved this recitation are Hishaam and Ibn Zhakwan. 5. Asim al-Kufi (Koofah) Imaam Abu Hanifa recited in this manner. Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal often recited in this manner. The 2 Qaris who prserved this recitation are Shuba and Hafs 6. Hamzah Al-Kufi (Koofah) The 2 Qaris who preserved this recitation are Khalaf (who also has his own Qira'at #10) and Khallaad. 7. Al-Kisaa'ee The 2 Qaris who preserved this recitation are Al-Layth and ad-Doori (same one as before). 8. Abu Ja'far Al-Madanee (Madinah) The two Qaris who preserved this recitation are Isa and Sulayman. 9. Yaqub ibn Al-Basri (Basra) Imam Bukhari recited in this manner. The 2 Qaris who preserved this recitation are Ruways and Rooh. 10. Khalaf (same one who preserved Hamzah's recitation, but this is his own method of reciation) The 2 Qaris who preserved this reciation are Ishaq and Idris. Today 95% of the world recites Hafs an Asim, 3% Warsh an Naafi, .7% Qaloon an-Naafi, .3% Ad-Doori an Abu Amr and 1% Ibn 'Aamir.

    :D And it still does. :D Even when its Sudais turn to lead, they show the Kaba or outside the Masjid and your all happy then you hear Shuraims Takbeer and your all :D but mashAllah shuraim reads that surah :D

    :D How can you not like shuraim? Hes voice keeps you on your toes you never dozz off. Hes reciatation becomes like a story telling, surah Kahf for an example makes you feel part of the youths how they stand up to the evil King, and the places where Allah is giving the believers something to ponder about Shuraims voice becomes that of a father advicing his children lol. And when he cries he cries subhanAllah, doesnt "raise" his voice like sudais but it goes all "broken"ish all adding to his nice unique style. oh and we cant forget his Shuraim TradeMark Tune :D

    :D Vad innebär den stora shirk? Det betyder att man tillägnar nÃ¥gonting av tillbedjan till nÃ¥gon annan än Allah, tex bedjan, offerdjur, mm. Beviset för detta är att Allah sade: ”'Och Ã¥kalla förutom Allah icke nÃ¥gon annan som varken kan gagna eller skada dig. Och om du gjorde det, skulle du helt visst vara bland syndarna.” (dvs de som gör shirk) [Yunus, 106] Profeten (SAS) sade: ”Den största synden av de stora synderna: Att göra shirk mot Allah, vara olydig mot sina föräldrar, och att vittna falskt.” (Muslim) Vilken är den största synden hos Allah? Det är den stora shirk. Allah sade: ”O min käre son! Sätt ingen vid Allahs sida. Att förbinda medhjälpare med Allah är förvisso en svÃ¥r synd.” [Luqmaan, 13] När profeten (SAS) blev tillfrÃ¥gad om vilken som är den största synden, sade han (SAS): ”Att du sätter nÃ¥gon vid Allahs sida eller sätter nÃ¥gon annan pÃ¥ Hans plats medan det är Allah som har skapat dig.” (Mutafiqon ’aleih) Finns shirk i den muslimska ummahn? Ja, det existerar, därför att Allah sade: ”Och de flesta av dem tror icke pÃ¥ Allah, utan att (samtidigt) förbinda medhjälpare (med Honom).” [Yusuf, 106] Profeten (SAS) sade: ”Timmen kommer inte att uppstÃ¥ förrän stammar av min ummah följer dem som gör shirk och inte förrän den dyrkar avgudar.” (al-Tirmidhi, saheeh) Vilken dom gäller de som ber till döda eller de som inte är närvarande? Deras tillbedjan till dessa är av den stora shirk. Allah sade: ”Ã…kalla därför icke nÃ¥gon annan gud bredvid Allah, sÃ¥ att du icke blir (en) av dem som är bestraffade.” [al-Shua’ra’, 213] Profeten (SAS) sade: ”Den som dör medan han Ã¥kallar nÃ¥gon annan än Allah kommer till helveteselden.” (al-Bukhaari)

    Är tillbedjan/Ã¥kallelse av nÃ¥gon dyrkan? Ja, därför att Allah sade: ”Och er Herre säger: Be till mig; Jag kommer att besvara er (bön). Men de som är alltför stolta för att dyrka Mig, kommer förvisso att föraktade träda in i Helvetet.” [al-Ghaafir, 60]. Profeten (SAS) sade: Böner är dyrkan.” (al-Tirmidhi, hasan saheeh) Hör de döda vÃ¥r bön? Nej, de hör inte. Allah sade: ”och det kan icke fÃ¥ dem som är i gravarna till att höra.” [Faatir, 22] Och Ibn ’Umar (raa) sade: ”Profeten (SAS) ställde sig, efter slaget vid Badr, där de döda till mushrikeen lÃ¥g, och sade:’Har ni funnit det som Allah lovade er verkligt?’ [7:44] Sedan sa han (SAS): ’Just nu hör de vad jag säger.’ Detta nämndes för ’Aa’ishah, som sade: ’Profeten (SAS) sade att just nu har de fÃ¥tt vetskapen om det jag brukade säga till dem är sant. Sedan läste hon: ”Du kan i sanning icke förmÃ¥ de döda att höra.” [al-Naml, 80].” Qataada sade (den som berättat hadeethen): Allah gav dem liv sÃ¥ att de kunde höra profetens ord (SAS) som en reprimand och förödmjukelse... (al-Bukhaari i bok al-Janaaiz (begravningar), kapitel 8). Det vi förstÃ¥r av hadeethen: 1. Att de döda mushrikoons hörsel var endast tillfällig med beviset att profeten (SAS) sade: ’Just nu hör de.” Efter ”just nu” hör de inte, sÃ¥ som Qataada sade: Allah gav dem liv sÃ¥ att de kunde höra Hans tal... 2. ’Aa’ishahs förnekande av Ibn ’Umars berättelse och att profeten (SAS) inte sade: ”De här”, utan sade: ”Just nu har de fÃ¥tt vetskapen” och hon stödjer sig pÃ¥ beviset av den aayahn i surat al-Naml. 3. Kanske är överensstämmelsen mellan Ibn ’Umars och ’Aa’ishahs berättelse den: att i princip hör inte de döda av mushrikoon som ett underverk för profeten (SAS), sÃ¥ att de kunde höra hans tal, sÃ¥som Qatada sade, och Allahu ’alam (Allah vet bäst). Det är ej tillåtet, utan vi bönfaller endast Allah, som sade: â€När ni bönföll om er Herres hjälp och Han besvarade er bön†[al-Anfaal, 9] och Han sade även: â€Och de vilka de åkallar bredvid Allah skapar icke någonting, utan de är själva skapta. (De är) döda, icke levande; och de vet icke när de kommer att uppresas.†[al-Nahl, 20-21] Profeten (SAS) sade: ’O Du som är levande, o Du som är den som ger näring och skydd åt allt som existerar, jag bönfaller Dig om Din barmhärtighet.’ (al-Tirmidhi, hasan) Är det tillåtet att be någon annan än Allah om hjälp? Det är ej tillåtet, eftersom Allah sade: â€Dig allena tillber vi, och Dig allena bönfaller vi om hjälp.†[al-Fatiha, 4] Profeten (SAS) sade: ’Om du frågar om någonting, fråga Allah. Och om du ber om hjälp, be Allah. (al-Tirmidhi, hasan saheeh) Är det tillåtet att be de levande om hjälp? Det är tillåtet att be dem om hjälp i det de klarar av. Allah sade: â€och hjälp varandra i rättfärdighet och fromhet.†[al-Ma’idah,2] Profeten (SAS) sade: Allah hjälper sin tjänare med det som tjänaren inte kan klara av att hjälpa sin broder med. (Muslim) Är det tillåtet att göra nidhr (heligt löfte) till någon annan än Allah? Det är ej tillåtet. Allah nämner Meriems mammas ord: â€Min Herre, jag har lovat dig ett heligt löfte att det som finns i mitt sköte skall tillägnas (Din tjänst)†[al-’Imran, 35]. Profeten (SAS) sade: â€Den som gör nidhr att lyda Allah, bör lyda Honom. Och den som gör nidhr att vara olydig mot Honom, bör ej vara olydig.†(al-Bukhaari) Är det tillåtet att slakta offerdjur till någon annan än Allah? Det är ej tillåtet, och beviset är att Allah sade: â€Så bed till din Herre och utför offergärningar.†[al-Kauthar, 2] Profeten (SAS) sade: â€Allah förbannar den som utför offergärning till någon annan än Allah.†(Muslim)

    Om Shaytan (satan) viskar till någon av er med den här frågeställningen, sök då beskydd hos Allah från Shaytans viskning. Allah sade: â€Och om en frestelse från Satan frestar dig, sök då beskydd hos Allah. Han är förvisso den All-hörande, den Allvetande†[Fussilat, 36] Profeten (SAS) lärde oss att slå tillbaka Shaytans onda viskningar genom att säga: â€Jag tror på Allah och Hans sändebud, Allah den Enda, Allah den Oberoende och den av alla anropade. Han avlar icke, icke heller är Han avlad. Och ingen är Hans like.†(Detta är en sammanfattning av de ahadeeth som finns berättade i al-Bukhaari, Muslim, Ahmad och Abu Dawood). Profeten (SAS) sade: â€O Allah. Du är den Förste, det finns inget före Dig.†(Muslim) Vad leder den stora shirk till? Den leder till evighet i helveteselden. Allah sade: â€För den som förknippar medhjälpare med Allah, har Allah förvisso förbjudit Himlen, och Elden kommer att vara hans tillflykt.     Är det tillåtet att gå runt gravarna för att komma dem närmare? Nej. Vi går endast runt Ka’ba. Allah sade: â€och gå runt det urgamla huset.†[al-Hajj, 29] Profeten (SAS) sade: â€Den som går runt Huset (Ka’ba) sju gånger och ber två rak’ah, så är det som om han friköpt en slav.†(Ibn Majah, saheeh). Vad är domen för häxkonst? Det är kufr. Allah sade: â€utan (det var) de upproriska (som) icke trodde. De lärde folket falskhet och bedrägeri.†[al-Baqarah, 102] Profeten (SAS) sade: â€Undvik de sju (gärningar) som för er till bestraffning: Att dyrka någon annan bredvid Allah, häxkonst, bedrägeri och falskhet,... (Muslim) Får vi tro på dem som spår framtiden? Nej, det får vi inte, eftersom Allah sade: â€Säg: Ingen i himlen och på jorden känner det osedda utom Allah.†(al-Naml, 65) Profeten (SAS) sade: â€Den som går till en siare eller spågumma och tror på det den säger, gör kufr vad gäller det som sänts ner till Muhammad.†(Ahmad, saheeh) Känner någon till det osedda? Det är endast Allah som känner till det osedda. Han sade: â€Och hos Honom är det oseddas nycklar. Ingen känner dem utom Han.†[al-An’aam, 59] Profeten (SAS) sade: â€Ingen känner det osedda utom Allah.†(al-Tabarani, hasan) Vad är domen gällande lagar som inte är enligt Islam? Det är kufr att leva efter lagar som inte är enligt Islam, tillåta att de finns till eller att tro att de är bra. Allah sade: â€Och den som inte dömer med det som Allah har sänt ned, det är dessa som är de icke troende.†[al-Ma’idah, 44] Profeten (SAS) sade: â€Och om inte deras lärda dömer med Allahs bok så skapar Allah motsättningar mellan dem.†(Ibn Majah mfl, hasan) Vad ska vi göra om Shaytan viskar frågan ’Vem har skapat Allah?’ till oss?
