2. Peace unto you, um-eesaa My thanks for your correction. Perhaps you can give me exact references? Alas, having seen transcriptions of many speeches by Imams in Australia and the Middle East, I'm not the only one who needed correcting. No matter you have done me a favour, for which my sincere thanks. Despite 5:51, perhaps we can at least respect one another. Zoe
3. Peace unto you, Al Faqeer I think that the Kurdish Muslims I know would disagree with you there. "No one would be killed or injured"? - from (www.)"you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_www.usaid.gov/iraq/legacyofterror.html"]Assistance For Iraq Muslims killing Muslims. There seems to be a lot of that lately. Oh, Christians are good at it too, the war that ended 60 years ago slew some 25 million of them, and that was mostly Christian vs Christian. I attended a school reunion on Saturday, and sat next to a friend who worked on nuclear medicine at the Lucas Heights reactor. It doesn't produce power, only isotopes for medicinal purposes. He would have been one of the casualties had the local terrorist cell, the Jihadis, had succeeded in their plans to demolish it and kill as many people as they could while doing so. We have a personal interest in the Muslim vs Muslim squabble that's going on, the battle for the Caliphate. Because we're threatened by it too. I posted something that I hoped would bring us closer together: now I see by your remarks that we are growing further apart. Each of us sees only our own viewpoint, and not that of others. No Muslim can criticise another, no matter how much evil is done. No Jew can be allowed a single dash of praise, as they are Pigs and Monkeys - doesn't it say so in the Holy Koran, the very word of Allah, and thus, unquestionably true? I see no meeting ground here, and that saddens me beyond belief. May the Compassionate, the Merciful, whatever you may call Him, guide us all.
4. Zee, Peace No-one with a knowledge of mathematics can be unaware of Algebra, Algorithm. No-one with a knowledge of Astronomy can be unaware of Deneb, Kochab, Zubenelgenubi, Altair.... No-one with a knowledge of Chemistry can be unaware of Alcohol or Alkali. In the course of learning scientific disciplines, you cannot avoid being taught who was responsible for such discoveries. But as a western scientist with more than the average amount of knowledge of the history of Science and Mathematics, I cannot recall a single Muslim Scientist of note since about 1450 CE. Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Shinto, Confucians, Taoists, and Christians of all varieties, yes. There's bound to be some. The amount of work coming from the US and China is immense, and both have large Muslim populations. But I can't think of anyone from the Islamic world in the last 500 years. :D Zoe

7. The Nicea Council

May I suggest you find a copy of the Chaosium game "Credo". This takes a somewhat irreverant view of the council of Nicea, but the historical research and background literature included in the game is beyond reproach, and the best single summarised source on the subject I know of. 8. From "you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_indiauncut.blogspot(contact admin if its a beneficial link)/2005/01/despatches-9-identity.html"]India Uncut Australia and the USA have rushed in what aid we could to Indonesia. We don't ask the victims what religion they are before giving help. We don't insist on handing out copies of the Bible, or Talmud, or the Bhagavid-Gita, or Koran with each food parcel, though some of the Australians are Christians, others Jews, others Hindu - and some of us are Buddhists, others Muslims. But primarily, we're all human. Some of the people in Aceh recently massacred their neighbours, and both Churches and Masjids have been burnt. Frankly, we don't care. When something like this happens, we're all in this together. They're all human, all victims. Save 'em all, and let God sort them out. I see that some people in India - who happen to be Muslim - feel the same way. Such people I would be honoured to call Brother or Sister. In the meantime, if you're Muslim, read the paragraph I quoted above, and be proud.
9. Are Robots Haram?

Please forgive me if I'm wrong about any of this, I'm not a Muslim. Drawn images, and hence sculpted images, of living things are unequivocally forbidden, if I read the Koran correctly. Opinions of scholars differ as to whether photographs of living things are forbidden, permissible under some circumstances, or permissible as they do not involve creativity, merely record. But what about Robots? Things that may or may not appear similar to living creatures, yet endowed with the ability to mimic life to a limited extent? is the creation of them forbidden, or permissible, and if so, under what circumstances? For that matter, what about artificial life itself? If a scientist creates a living creature in a Laboratory, is that forbidden as trespassing on Allah(swt)'s domain, forbidden as being a created image, or permissible as on the Last Day, only those picture-makers who cannot breath life into their images are to be condemned?
10. Responding To Merry Christmas

As a non-Muslim, may I ask if it is permissible for a Muslim to reply as follows : (Kafur) "Merry Christmas" (Muslim) "Peace on Earth" or (Kafur) "Merry Christmas" (Muslim) "May Allah Bless You, and may You find Him" I figure that this is a way of politely responding to what is intended to be an expression of kindliness and friendship, without acknowledging the Kafur's belief directly. The first example wishes the whole world would be D'ar al Islam. A Christian may interpret it as just being consistent with the Christian belief that the Angel Gabrial announced the birth of Jesus with the phrase "Peace on Earth, Goodwill to all Men". The second example is an expression of kindliness and friendship in return, as well as a wish to see the original well-wisher be blessed by Allah (swt) and so convert to Islam. But to a Christian, it may be interpreted purely as "God's blessing be upon you", totally in keeping with the Christmas Spirit. I hope that this way you can remain true to your belief, while politely returning the good wishes of another. I would appreciate the comment of any Islamic scholar on this, as I have no wish to lead you astray. In the meantime, I wish you Peace, and may the Compassionate and the Merciful bless you. :D
11. Muslim and Christians:

A very imperfect human being. If you want a religious label, the terms "Agnostic", "Liberal Catholic" and "Lesser Path Buddhist" are equally accurate. I try to do good - and am certain as I can be that at least some Muslims I know personally will enter Paradise, if it exists. The same is true of some Christians I know, and some Jews too. Do I believe in the day of Judgement? I'm not convinced. But I do believe that everyone should behave as if it will happen, especially if it won't. And if there's no parole from Perdition, if the Almighty runs a private torture chamber for sinners to be excruciated for eternity with no chance of repentance and release, then I want no part of it. My God is one of compassion and mercy, in addition to justice. This puts me outside mainstream Islam, and mainstream Christianity too for that matter. I'd be in violation of the terms of service of this site if I went into more detail about why I hold my beliefs, as they're not Islamic - and it would be a sin (by my own belief) for me to divert any Muslim from their proper path. I can make some statements though. I do not believe 9:113 is correct. I do believe that 2:224 is correct, and many other parts of the Holy Koran too. 5:32 for example. I'm surprised no-one on this thread has quoted 29:46 before now. Peace.
12. Junk History

What you say is true, but not particularly relevant. I wish it were. Because the people with the least amount of knowledge of history are the Muslims that are causing the trouble. You know, the people who perpetrated 9/11. When the Wahabbist fanatics rampaged through Saudi Arabia asking "Are you a Christian" and beheading those who answered in the affirmative, I doubt that they were particularly interested in conversion, by the sword or otherwise. What they did that day was no more Islamic than the Sack of Magdeburg was an example of true Christian belief. Today, on other parts of this forum, you're more likely to have this quoted at you: 5:51 O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people. rather than this: 2:62 Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve. or even this: 5:82 Certainly you will find the most violent of people in enmity for those who believe (to be) the Jews and those who are polytheists, and you will certainly find the nearest in friendship to those who believe (to be) those who say: We are Christians; this is because there are priests and monks among them and because they do not behave proudly. As for the Dhimmi Christian minorities in various Islamic lands, just go there and ask about what happened to the Jews - also "peoples of the book". Or go to Aceh province in Indonesia, and look at the Christian villages that have been devastated. Or go to Nigeria, where the northern provincial government has recently decreed that all Churches be raised. None of this is according to anything in the Koran. It is, howver, in accordance with many of the Hadiths. There is a lot more to Islam than just the Koran, just as there is a lot more to Catholic Theology than what is in the Bible. And there is more disputation about which Hadiths are "authentic" than you'll find between the various doctrinal disputes between Copts, Marionites, Waldenses, Othodox (Serbian), Orthodox (Greek), Orthodox(Russian), Lutherans, Catholics, Calvinists, Congregationalists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Anglicans, and so on. The point is that it's the Muslim equivalent of Calvin and Zwingli that have the money and the guns. Islam is undergoing its own attempted radical Reformation by the Wahhabi sect, and unless we can have some contact and conversation with the great bulk of Islam, we're in for a replay of the 30 years war. And just as Calvin had influence a long distance from Geneva, and amongst both governments and popular opinion that were not Calvinist but were receptive to radical purification and reform, so the Wahabbi and Taliban have had a great deal of influence a long way from Afghanistan and Saudi. Just as there were many good, just and righteous individuals whose very Godliness made them fanatically anti-Catholic, you'll find righteous individuals on this forum who are convinced Taliban supporters who see the West as Evil Incarnate. Occidens Delenda Esse. At one time, the Caliphate was the most economically and morally advanced, the most tolerant, and the most scientific of the world's civilisations. Given the competition, that's not saying much, and it was far less perfect than some writers have made it out to be. But you have to judge it by the relative standards of the time as well as an objective standard. By the former, it was exemplary, by the latter, no worse than many regimes today, and far better than some. About the same as the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman? But the West has advanced a bit beyond the standards of the third Crusade. And, for that matter, the 30 years war. We've eliminated the scourge of National Socialism that attempted to put back the clock. But the Muslim world has not. We should no more tar them all with the same brush than "the West" should be associated with Nazism. But neither should we ignore the growing canker in their midst, one which is growing with the help of many well-meaning and God-fearing Muslims. Just as in 1938 there were many in the West who thought that Mussolini made the trains run on time, Hitler was a great leader, and Stalin was the Greatest Man in History, and so gave them covert or overt support. Still, it never hurts to learn a little history - we should at least be original in our mistakes. And, as you say, much of what is popularly believed is Junk. (how many Americans realise Lincoln freed the slaves all right - but only in the Confederacy, not the ones in the Union?) You just have to realise that the current situation is more like Europe circa 1630 than the Ayyubids, Fatamids, Abbasids, Seljuks or Ottomans. IMHO. 13. Muslim and Christians:

I agree that what most Christians practice today is not what Jesus (Isa) taught - any more than what most Muslims practice today is what Mohammed (PBUH) taught. Just look at the splits between Shi'a, Sunni, and Sufi. or those between Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant. But no insult to Allah is intended, any more than Muslims intend to insult God by not believing that Jesus was His Son. Readings (Muslims should consult the original in Arabic, as all translations are suspect, the English below is for the benefit of non-Muslims - like me): 2:62 Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve. 2:120 And the Jews will not be pleased with you, nor the Christians until you follow their religion. Say: Surely Allah's guidance, that is the (true) guidance. And if you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you shall have no guardian from Allah, nor any helper. 5:51 O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people. 5:69 Surely those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sabians and the Christians whoever believes in Allah and the last day and does good-- they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve. 22:17 Surely those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sabeans and the Christians and the Magians and those who associate (others with Allah)-- surely Allah will decide between them on the day of resurrection; surely Allah is a witness over all things. As Muslims, you may not be allowed to love Christians. But Christians are not just allowed, they're expected to love everybody. Hate the Sin, but love the Sinner. Being human, not many manage that, any more than many Muslims live a life of perfection. At this time of year, Christians celebrate the traditional date of the birth of Jesus (though the actual holiday was adapted from a pagan midwinter festival - just as the great Masjid in Istanbul was adapted from the Church of Hagia Sophia). Anyway, it is a time to wish Peace and Goodwill to All People. Not just all Christians, or all Catholics, or all Jews. All people. The Sinner and the Saint, the Idolator and the Believer. May they be shown Mercy and Compassion, may their past sins be forgiven, and may they go and sin no more. I repeat 5:69 Surely those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sabians and the Christians whoever believes in Allah and the last day and does good-- they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve. Your way is not our way, our way is not your way. Nonetheless, Peace be upon you, and may the Compassionate, the Merciful show you His compassion and mercy. And that is a sincere wish, though I don't consider myself to be a Christian.

16. How Non muslims describe this image?

I think all of us, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, can join in a prayer that such an unthinkable, obscene event never happens. We have that in common.

Anti-Muslim Backlash in the Netherlands So it begins. From "you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,11322044%255E1702,00.html"]The Australian I don't care who did this, nor whether they were Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Shinto or whatever. This is wrong. No ifs, ands or buts. That appears to be the difference between us. We don't care who did it. there's no "free pass" because someone is of the same religion - the question isn't even asked. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it. Is it as wrong as slitting the throat of someone you disagree with, or feel insulted by? That I leave up to the scholars. The Pigs heads mean that this was a deliberate and calculated insult to all Muslims everywhere. I'm Australian, not Dutch. But I extend what apologies are due to all Muslim readers of this forum, on behalf of the non-Muslim world, for this insult. It is against every tenet of Christianity. It is against every tenet of Judaism. It is against every tenet of Buddhism. It doesn't dishonour Islam though, it dishonours the rest of us instead. And we're not going to try to deny it, saying that it was Muslims who did it to try and make the rest of us look bad, nor that "No Jew would do such a thing" nor "No Christian would do that", nor "No real Buddhist would think of it - so it must have been a Muslim Conspiracy". Another difference between us. It might be useful if other non-Muslims joined me in condemning this action too. Now is not the time for "trying to understand the arsonists view", it's the time for taking the sting out of the insult to people on this forum, none of whom (I remind you) had any connection to the murder. They are innocent. They have been grievously wronged. So let's say so.
18. Evil, Wars, Genocide spread by Judaism and

Master's Lieutenant, I'd say "Peace", but that would be hypocritical, as it's not Peace you're trying to achieve, it's Justice - as you see it. You wish to chastise the evildoers not just with whips, but scorpions (barbed whips, like a cat'o'nine'tails). (Chronicles 10:14 KJV) So I'll say "Greetings and best wishes to you" instead. Do you really want to start a battle of Books? If so, do you want me to stick to the Holy Qu'ran, or can I adduce Hadiths as well? Do you want me to break out the "weapons of last resort" and quote from what is known from them about the Prophet Mohammed(PBUH)s marriage life, or what the Ayotollah Khomeini had to say about Bestiality? Let's not go there. If you meant to offend by pointing out unpleasant little-known truths, you've succeeded - and I'm neither Jewish nor Christian. But many thanks for providing me with an excellent reference when I have to argue that "There's at least as much bloodthirstiness in the Bible as there is in the Qu'ran". 9:5 9:29 8:12 (Muslims seem to have been doing a lot of this lately, on camera) 47:4 48:16 Shall I go on? 4:74 9:111 9:123 is always a goodie. 48:29 is the real cause of a lot of trouble. The double standard, I mean. Most of the rest of the world has a dimetrically opposed belief: that all men are created equal, and that you judge people by their actions, not what they say they believe (but don't actually practice). 66:9 4:101 Enough! It would bolster your case to say which version of the Bible you're quoting from. I suspect the King James Version, which most Protestant Christians at least would say is authoritative. If you really want some ammunition to use against the Bible, try the "you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_mindprod(contact admin if its a beneficial link)/biblestudy.html"]Bible Study Guide which shows up a lot more inconsistencies, illogicalities, and downright evil. Try looking at Matthew (KJV) 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Look at what Islam has wrought - or rather, look what people who claim to be following Islam have wrought. Don't just trust what people say, look at what they do as well. I do that when I read the verses in the Holy Qu'ran that I've quoted above. And do the same for Jews, and Christians too. See the Crusades for some of the depths of Christian hypocricy. But who is driving "medecines sans frontieres" from Iraq today? May your quest for Justice succeed. But please try a little Compassion and Mercy too, OK? Even Kufars sometimes do that. May I urge you to read 109:1-6 once more and attempt to live by it. Even unbelievers like myself try to. Regards

Sulemaan, Peace I'll repeat what I said somewhat earlier : And the rest of the comments on this forum are also more important. But I still owe you a thousand thanks for your correction. I have issued a "you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_aebrain.blogspot(contact admin if its a beneficial link)/2004/11/retraction.html"]Retraction on my blog. Until I get some better information - which I think is most unlikely - indeed the letter, along with its date, serial number and so on, all of which you so kindly provided, is quite sufficient to convince me. Sir, you have done me an enormous favour. Anyone who can correct my error and enlighten my immense ignorance so calmly, clearly, and completely is somone I owe a debt to. My sincere thanks. You have taken a great deal of time and trouble to correct the error of someone you have never met, a stranger, and a Kufar at that. As I said, I am in your debt. May I please have your permission to quote what you say (with attribution)? As you have pointed out, numerous reputable sources are in error, and the more the truth can be publicised, the better. Just to make sure though that I understand what the revered Sheikh said : that the Earth is round, but does not rotate: and the Sun and Moon rotate round the Earth, or more exactly "run on a course" around it - that is, it broadly follows the Ptolemaic model of the solar system? And that anyone who subscribes to the Copernican/Keplerian/Newtonian rather than the Ptolemaic model of the solar system is an unbeliever? Or have I misunderstood completely? Having once been in error, I would appreciate your guidance on this. I'm not being sarcastic, I just don't want to get it wrong again. I'd also be interested in any supporting or differing views on the subject amongst reputable Islamic Scholars. And if there's anything I can do for you in return, you have but to ask. Regards and thanks once more. Perhaps this whole subject deserves its own thread - Cosmology and the Qu'ran?

As should "you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_tbrnews(contact admin if its a beneficial link)/Archives/a230.htm"]Harry Goodman's, for example. Again, the only argument is whether he belongs in jail, or a mental hospital. Yet exchange a few tokens - like the word "Jew" for the word "Arab" - and he'd fit in perfectly with Hammas. Personally, I think he needs pychiatric treatment. Only a "you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_www.informationclearinghouse.io/article3294.htm"]very few people support the horrific massacre perpetrated by Dr Baruch Goldstein (may his name be cursed). But even one would be too many. The point is, we can number such massacres on the fingers of one hand, and call out (and revile) the evildoers by name. Yet I've personally lost count of the number of massacres of Shia by Sunni, and vice-versa, at Masjids in Pakistan over the last 12 months alone. Evil is Evil, whether done by Muslim or Kuffar. No ifs, ands, or buts. Until Muslims realise that, we have a problem. The basic problem is the non-Muslim belief that all people should be treated equally, and judged by their works. Oh, it's in Islam too. See 2.62 and 5.69. I try to live up to this, as I try to live up to the Jewish concept of "righteous Amongst Nations". But 48:29 makes things difficult. This has been interpreted to mean that anyone claiming to be a Muslim is automatically believed, anyone who's a Kuffar automatically disbelieved in case of a conflict. This is as .... well, it causes as many difficulties as the reverse would. As you say, the Killer's actions were wrong and should be condemned. Period.

If you can show me one other faith whose adherents slowly saw off the heads of innocents while shouting the equivalent of "God is Great!", and then uses a video of the event as a recruiting tool, I'll admit you have a point. Barbarous acts have been committed by members of, and in the name of, all religions. But only people claiming to be Muslims have sunk to these depths. You're unique. However much that might hurt, however much you may wish it wasn't so, however much you may say "No Muslim would ever do that, it must be the Jews. Or the Crusaders. Or the Masons, or Rotarians, or Bicylists, or Martians, but NOT US!". It is so. Islam as an institution rather than a Religion has a problem. Admitting it is the first step to fixing it. The rules of this forum do not permit advocating the slaying of innocents, and that is a good start. Right now, the vast majority of good, decent Muslims are being used as Human Shields by the Fanatically deluded, in the name of Muslim Brotherhood. I urge you to separate yourselves from these enemies of humanity. All Humanity, be they Muslim, Jew, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Shinto.... Should you do this, as other religions have done in the past, then you will be listened to. Keep on as you are, and you will be shunned by the rest of the world. And I think we can all agree that that would be a tragedy. But if you genuinely believe that what you are doing is in accordance with the will of the Compassionate, the Merciful, then of course you should continue, regardless of the cost to yourself, your children, and your culture. Just remember the facts that began this topic. Readings : 109:1-6, 60:13
23. Anti-Muslim Film Director killed by Muslim

We - or at least I - keep trying because there are so many decent, honourable and compassionate Muslims like Crystal Eyes. I've even met some Taliban supporters on this forum that were reasonable people, and that was quite an education for me. I still think they're mistaken, but they think the same about me, and (this is the most important thing) wouldn't dream of slitting my throat just because I disagree with them. Yet others would. Muslims are not one great homogenous mass, any more than Christians or Jews, Hindus or Buddhists are. Dialogue with such people is possible. Islam now is in no worse a state, and in fact, rather better, than Christianity was in, say 1630 CE, call it 1000AS. Not many readers of this forum would be familiar with the 30 years war, or the sack of Magdeberg. Catholics vs Protestants. Let's just say that it rivals in inhumanity, ferocity, and sheer blasphemy anything the Sunni have ever done to the Shia, or vice-versa. Of course that was nearly 400 years ago. Christian preachers no longer call for the extermination of heretics such as Muslims, and haven't done for literally hundreds of years. We no longer burn apostates at the stake, and no-one would seriously argue that we should return to the practice. Islam, however.... We have well-meaning, pious and holy people who read what they truly believe is the direct word of God, and try to live up to the precepts therein. Just as the Spanish Inquisition did. Just as the people who burnt witches at Salam, Massachaussetts did. Anyone who tries to burn heretics, we now debate whether they belong in a prison, or a lunatic asylum. Islam, alas, debates similar acts and whether they deserve praise or blame. The most apalling calumnies can be heaped upon Jews in this forum, and anti-israel documentaries are universally approved of, and never examined for truth. But if a Jew shot and then knifed the producer of one, how many would argue whether he was justified or not? But they don't see the parallels, nor admit that there's an analogy. Until they do, it's a struggle. At one time - during the glorious civilisation of Grenada, Cordoba and Baghdad, some 800 years ago, they might have. Is Islam a religion of Peace? Exactly as much as Christianity was 300 years ago. People who said the wrong things then could be (and were) slain by fanatics, and good people could (and did) debate whether the slaying was justified or not. Maybe in 2300 CE we'll agree that such barbaric slaying in the name of religion, any religion, whether valid or not, is still a barbaric slaying and contrary to everything Compassionate and Merciful. But then, I'm an optimist.

You'll find it on "you can't post links until you reach 50 posts_www.salafitalk(contact admin if its a beneficial link)/st/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=14&Topic=841&keywords=abdulbaasit"]page 23 The title of the book "Evidence the Earth is standing still" is indicative. Author: Sheikh Abdul Aziz Ben Baz. Editor: Islamic University of Medina. Year: 1395 AH City: Medina, Saudi Arabia. See also the Fatwa the revered Sheikh issued in 1414 AS. I would be forever in your debt should you provide an alternative translation of page 23 for me, since you have access to it. For that matter, how is sura 18:86 to be read? And sura 18:90? It is these verses (amongst others) that the revered Sheikh uses as the basis for his contention. Again, I would be most grateful should you supply an alternate translation into English. There was a most interesting discussion about this in this forum, topic 6679, but it seems to have been archived. The fact that you forgave me my perceived errors is, to me, rather more important than whether a venerable and respected (but still human and therefore fallible) scholar may have been incorrect in a minor doctrinal matter ten years ago.

It's just that Islam seems to have rather more imperfect adherents than others. This is no criticism of Islam : merely muslims. Not every Islamic scholar thinks that beheading innocents is wrong. But some highly respected and powerful ones do. Not every Islamic scholar thinks that killing kuffar children is a good thing, even a moral duty. But some highly respected and powerful ones do. Not every Islamic scholar thinks the world is flat. But some highly respected and powerful ones do. Muslims (at least in this forum) are divided into those who believe: 9/11 was an abomination in the sight of the Compassionate, the Merciful, and committed by misguided people who say they are Islamic, but aren't really. 9/11 was a heroic act of martyrdom that all Muslims should celebrate and wish to emulate. 9/11 was an abomination committed by the Jews, the CIA, the Masons, the Rotarians and it's all a conspiracy by Evil crusaders and the Elders of Zion, as no muslim could ever do anything like that. If you're in the first category, then I will listen to you, and perhaps the scales will fall from my eyes, as Allah wills, or not. If you're in the second category, then I will fight you, both out of self-defence and morality, as the so-called God you follow is Evil incarnate - your God lacks compassion, lacks mercy, and is against every reading of the holy Qu'ran I've ever seen. You are apostate, heretical, and mistaken. May you find Islam before you die, or you will have molten sand as your only drink for Eternity. If you're in the third category, you are merely delusional. Facts and evidence will never convince you, you will believe what you want to believe, and there can be no point in any discussion. Or perhaps you are merely ignorant, as ignorant as I am, but about different things. But then, I'm not muslim. And right now, there are so few in the first category (although I hope they're in the silent majority), and so many in the other two, that I doubt I ever will be. There is much wisdom in the holy Qu'ran, but the Hadiths are works of men, not of the Compassionate and the Merciful. Some are wise, others not. As a guest here, I apologise to all for any offense I've caused by saying this. I have been treated with nothing but courtesy by everyone here, even those who believe I should be slain. I will try to live up to their example.
