  1. Need Your Input Please

:sl: My friend is establishing a Muslim not-for-profit organization and would like help coming up with a name for it. It is going to be primarily involved with youth activities. He needs help with coming up with a name for the organization and has asked me for help with it. Any suggestions? He'd like for it to have some type of relevance to Muslims/Islam...maybe having to do with peace and life?
  2. Facebook, Do You Use It?

:sl: to you both. This was helpful and InshaAllah will help me support the point I was trying to make.
  3. Facebook, Do You Use It?

:sl: I hope you are doing well by the grace of Allah Subhanahu-wataala These questions are actually important for a discussion that I am about to have so please answer truthfully and with detail. Do you use Facebook? Why or why not and if so then for what do you use it in particular? What do you think the Islamic stance on Facebook and other social networking sites is? JazakAllahu Khairun in advance. Ma Salaam
  4. :sl: I'm trying to recall which sin it is that in Islam is like committing fornication with your mother? My memory is failing me right now. Please Help! JazakAllahu Khairun
  5. Ive Been Accepted In Medinah Islamic University!

:sl: MashaAllah thats great news akhi. I know its very hard to get into because a few of my friends have been trying. May Allah Subhanahuwataala make you even more learned in the deen and give you the opportunity to spread this wealth of knowledge in the future. Ameen.
  6. Advice

:sl: I know how hard it must be for you sister. I've seen friends go through the exact same problem you are talking about. The bottom line is that it is your right to marry whom you want but obviously you should care how your parents feel to an extent. I would suggest getting a third party involved if you feel that you can't communicate directly with them or that your communication is not getting you anywhere. Do you have an aunt or uncle that you are close to? If not maybe the imam at the masjid you attend can help you with this. It is a sad fact that culture has bled into Islam these days. Also, don't underestimate the power of duaa. I know on many occasions just by making duaa, Allah :j: has answered my requests. It's a test for you and a mighty big one at that but try and be strong and increase your praying. May Allah :) make whatever is best for you easier and draw you closer to it and make whatever is not better for you more difficult and draw you away from it. :sl:
  7. Parents?

:sl: I think I might know why ur parents are resisting to you going to an Islamic school. There is this myth among many parents that if their child goes to Islamic school then they will not be able to have a career in the future because of not getting admission into a good university. Which is completely false. I have heard that they did a study on Muslim kids that go to public schools and Muslim kids that go to Islamic schools and those in the Islamic school scored better on their SAT's. I also know of brothers and sisters who have gone to Islamic schools and have been able to have a professional career after graduating from good universities. I can understand that horrible atmosphere that you must be around as I was the only Muslim in my high school. It can have quite a negative impact on you and if you are a sister it must be even harder. I would try and see if you can convince you parents just to check out the Islamic school and talk to some of the teachers. That may help them to see that it is also a real educational institution where you can learn about Islam and the other subjects. Outside of that as some others have said already...try your best to learn at home reading ahadith books and the Quran. It is harder but doable and especially if you don't have a job at this time which I am assuming you don't. InshaAllah I hope everything works out for you. Just make duaa that Allah Subhanahuwataala makes whatever is best for you easier and whatever isn't best more difficult.
  8. Salam... In Here After 9 Months

I try and stop in when I have a chance but its easier for me because i'm not hitched!
  9. Salam... In Here After 9 Months

Walaikum Asalaam, Who are you????? Just kidding...how could I ever forget one of the craziest drivers I've ever sat in a car with. Good to see you visiting akhi.
  10. Major Operation

Assalaamu Alaikum, Sister I hope you have a successful operation and that everything turns out okay. May Allah Subhanahuwataala ease your pain and suffering. Ameen. Brother Genetic_Freak, it must be truly difficult what you are going though. Keep strong bro and be there for your wife and leave the rest to Allah Subhanahuwataala. He will take care of you both InshaAllah. You will both be in my prayers.
  11. How My Life Continues Since I Fled

Assalaamu Alaikum sister, Alhamdulillah things are going better for you. I wish you all the best and admire how you keep strong through this difficulty. May Allah Protect You and Your Children. Ameen.
  12. Fasting Today

:sl: I just wanted to add that fasting on the other 8 days of the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah is also very rewarding as you can see by the following hadith: Abu Hurairah relates that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "There are no days more loved to Allaah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijja. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer salatul tahajjud (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the night of power. [i.e., Lailatul Qadr]." [This is related by at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and al-Baihaqi]
  13. The Man Who Entered A Masjid For The First Time.........

:D :D that is awesome bro. Must have been quite uplifting. Reminds me of the time I first stepped near the Kaaba when I was 8 years old. Will never forget that feeling. :D now you'll be a frequent visitor and get meet some more brothers as well.
  14. Careerbuilder.com And Monster.com

:D My observations about Monster and CareerBuilder and Hotjobs have been: 1. If you are fresh out of college, they will do nothing for you. 2. Followup after you apply and essentially you have to bug the recruiters a bit. 3. Cover Letter actually helps. Also, I wouldn't rule out using a headhunter or staffing company. I know a few people who couldn't find jobs and going this route they were able to secure jobs with Fortune 100 companies and other large corporations. Just find the ones that don't charge you anything upfront because they end up taking it out of your salary but you'll never know how much since they negotiate that with the employer.
  15. Make Duaa For My Wife

:D akhi, May Allah give you a healthy child that is strong in its imaan. Ameen. It is very difficult to deal with. I remember my mom had a couple of miscarriages and it really drained a lot out of her but :D she now has 5 kids so :D everything will work out.
