Islam in China

Recommended Posts

Historically, there have been some tension between Turkic Chinese Muslims and Hui Chinese Muslims. In the 1930s and 1940s when the Great Game was in full swing, foreign powers(Britain, Russia, Japan) used various minority ethnic groups as proxy figureheads against the other. During this period, Hui Muslims did encounter militarily other Muslims.

Mawlid in a village in Yunnan

according to Yunnanese Muslims' tradition, in this day they will get together to have dinner, some kind of going dutch, apart from commemorate the Prophet,

These is one of three important Eids for Yunnanese Muslims, Because women and children take part in, more people come than other two Eids.

However, in other parts of China, say, Beijing, Muslims only have porridge

Lizhong I also think your photographs of Chinese Muslims are great!

I am studying Muslims in China and lived in Kunming for some time so it is really great to see the beautiful Masjids again. Do you have any of Shuncheng Qingzhensi or Yongning Qingzhensi? It is so interesting to see all of the diversity within the brotherhood of Muslims around the world.

:D for all the information and pictures. I would love to hear more about Islam there. There seems to be a lot of unity there, looking at the pictures, :D

Is it easy to find masaajid there? and to get dhabiha meat? Do they have halal certified products? Do they have any muslim ogranizations there, like we have CAIR,MAS,MSA, Islamic Relief as well other charity organizations?

The pictures with the children--are they of some madaaris or like masjid Islamic school/class or an actual Islamic school?

Once again, :D

Asalam ali kium,

I am not sure if this counts but I am a muslim born and living in Hong Kong. We are slightly different here as there is a greater Pakistani/Indian muslim presence. We do have a Cantonese speaking Masjid, but nothing as spectacular as the one I saw in Xian.

Anyways just thought I would like to start my posting here.

Inshallah

Walaikum salam.

Is it easy to find masjid there ?!

It depends, where we live or travel. Muslims in china or Hui nations live mostly as a community and can been seen heavily loaded in one specific location and thinly distributed in other. The most populous Muslim region in china are Yunnan ( Bro.Lizhong comes from that place), Ningxia ( this is hui muslim administered automous province in china), Xinjiang(Supposedly the lands of Uighers, but there is also huge amount of hui population in this province as well), Shaanxi, Henan,Qinghai, Gansu, Liaoyang.

Other than these places muslims are thinly populated. Say for shanghai, approximately 35000 muslims and 4-5 masjids in suburbs. In case of Beijing, muslim population is relatively more. 80000 -100000. EAST Coast of china are void of muslim presence.
