History Degrees

Recommended Posts

:D

This part of the forum was being neglected so I thought I would start a thread!

Has anyone her done a history degree??

If so, why was it chosen?

Did you generally enjoy it?

If you know someone who has taken a history degree-

Did they feel their time was well used studying history?

What was the decisive factor in deciding on this degree?

Any replies would be much appreciated :D

Studying history can be fun if you're interested. The period you want to study is probably the most important factor. And what you want to do after; archaeology, linguistics etc...

I am opting for history to continue to feed my passion for History.

It is also quite a neutral subject allowing me to decide at the end of University :D to decide if i wish to progress into PRINT JOURNALISM or TEACHING.

:D for your comments.

Assalaamu 'alaikum,

I know a brother who just finished History at Cambridge, mashaa'Allah. I asked him your questions. He said:

-Why was it chosen?

enjoyed the subject

-Did you generally enjoy it?

very, very much

-Did you feel your time was well used studying history?

yes. was very enjoyable and beneficial in of itself, and easily transferred into the world of finance.

-What was the decisive factor in deciding on this degree?

personal enjoyment

Wassalaam.

It's a shame the only place in London that has an Islamic Studies course is SOAS, and even there you MUST spend a year abroad to expand your proficiency in Arabic!

If I choose to apply for SOAS, for a history degree, I could choose to specialise in Islamic history, which would be great :D

Sister, LSE (london school of econimics) which is situtaed in C. London does an excellent history degree course. I think its called International history, so you learn about world history and can pick modules you want- for some, so its possiable to learn about Islamic history (like the ottaman empire etc...)

SOAS is excellent too. Both great choices for social sciences, history, politics.

:D to everyone for their replies!

I've been looking at LSE, seems pretty good.

What i especially like about University of London unis, is that you often get the opportunity to take modules in other Unis! So that would definitely widen the topic choice!
