Creme Caramel

Creme Caramel[using large font size is not allowed]

 

Ingredients

 

4 tablespoons sugar

 

One 397g can Sweetened Condensed Milk

 

500 ml (2 cups) (approximately 1 2/3 cans) water

 

4 eggs, beaten

 

1 tablespoon vanilla essence (optional).

 

 

Method:

 

 

1) Preheat oven to 180ºC

 

2) In a heavy bases saucepan, melt the sugar slowly over a low heat to form a caramel (or if you know another way it works too)

 

3) Pour into 1 large (approximately 1 ½ litres) or 6 individual (approximately 150 ml) oven proof dishes.

 

4) Mix the Sweetened Condensed Milk, water and eggs together.

 

5) Add vanilla essence if desired.

 

6) Pour into prepared dishes and place in a water-bath (bain-marie)

 

7) Cook for approximately 1 hour until mixture is just firm

 

Chill well before turning out and serving

I like it to have a slight orangey taste. So take the zest of half a medium orange, and half of a small lemon, finely grated. Also take the juice of half of the orange and half of the lemon. Take their amount from the water needed and put the rest of the water.
