Was Jesus Really God?

Recommended Posts

Nowhere did I claim Jesus is God. You will not find that claim in my posts and you don't seem to be able to comprehend that I didn't say that.

By claiming that Jesus is the son of God, you recognize the Trinity that says (falsely) that Jesus is God the Son.

By your logic, but not by mine. Please feel free to continue your diatribe.

Jesus is not the Son of Allah (God) because Allah is the One and Only according to the messengers of Allah such as Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon them):

Moses said in a Biblical passage known as the “Shema”, or the Jewish creed of faith: “Hear, O israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.” (Deuteronomy 6:4)

It was repeated word-for-word approximately 1500 years later by Jesus when he said “...The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O israel; the Lord our God is one Lord.” (Mark 12:29)

Muhammad came along approximately 600 years later, bringing the same message again:

“And your God is One God: there is no God but He...” (Quran 2:163)

The New Testament makes it very clear that Jesus is the son of man so Jesus is not the Son of God:

Mat 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay [his] head.

Mat 9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house

Mat 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Luk 9:44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.

Luk 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

John 5:27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

Matthew, Mark, and Luke, authors of the first three Gospels, believed that Jesus was the son of God in the sense of a righteous person. Many others too, are similarly called sons of God (see Matthew 23:1-9).

The Holy Quran: Surah 112. Al-Ikhlas

Say: "He is Allah, the One and Only.

Allah is Independent of aII and all are dependent on Him

Neither has He an offspring nor is He the offspring of anyone;

and none is equal with Him in rank.

ummmm.... here is something for everyone to chew on. christ, in greek, actually means prophet. also, if you look through the bible, when the people start to praise him, he tells them not to and to praise god almighty instead. also, your version of christ is forgiving, selfsacrificing, etc, but your version of god in the bible is jealous and has a bad temper. however, they are also supposed to be the same person. and whats up with y'alls other prophets? they were men of god who were supposed to be rolemodels for society. instead, they commit rape, steal brothers inheritance, etc. does this not seem wrong to you?

That last bit seems to refer to the Old Testament Prophets. To be blunt, the Jewish and Christian Bibles do tell us of people with perfect, hard to live up to lives, but of real people with flaws and problems to show us how to get through those problems and deal with those flaws and still remain believers. The Old Testament/Hebrew Bible is not just a collection of Holy writings, but also a history of the Children of israel. Real humans make mistakes and the Bible records that in order to help believers with real life situations. The flaws are not glossed over but are used to teach us.

According to Islam, the prophets of Allah (God) are the good role models for their people to emulate. Their mission was to exhort them to worship none but Allah and to lead a life of virtue.

The word Risalah is defined as 'message'. But here we use it for the whole process of God's chosen messengers coming forth, one after another, under Allah's Divine Guidance.

From the beginning of Mankind, prophets have come to their respective peoples. Their mission was to exhort them to worship none but Allah and to lead a life of virtue. The first man Adam (pbuh) was a prophet, as were Abraham, David, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them all). We read in the Islamic tradition that over a hundred thousand prophets have preached the Religion of God here. The Holy Qur'an says that there has never been a people to whom a prophet has not come and that all those prophets taught their people the same message. The essence of that message is: Worship Allah alone and do good. The distinction of Muhammad (pbuh) among these prophets is simply that he was the Last Prophet, through whom the Divine Guidance was completed and perfected.

One important point for Muslims to remember is that they should respect all the prophets of God alike; that they should not discriminate between God's prophets. In the Holy Qur'an, Allah says to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): "Nothing is said to you that was not said to the messengers before you…" (41: 43). This means that all the prophets preached basically the same religion. This fact underscores the idea of the continuity of the Divine Message. Hence it is evident that Islam is not a new religion, but it is the Religion of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and all the prophets who came to all the peoples of the world at several stages in human history.

But at the same time, it should be emphasized here that Islam, as taught by Muhammad, is its latest and most complete form of the message. For this reason, we have to study and follow it from the model life of the Last Prophet, Muhammad (pbuh). It is also worthy of note that the events and incidents in the life of Muhammad (pbuh) have been so faithfully recorded by his companions in such detail that there is no other life that can bear comparison to it. This is important because Muslims must be able to get the guidelines they require from the life of the Prophet.

By the declaration of the second part of the Muslim shahada (witness), which is "ash-hadu anna Muhammad rasool Allah" (Muhammad is the messenger of Allah), a Muslim vows to accept Muhammad (pbuh) as his role model in life. If the Qur'an is the Word of God, the model life led by Muhammad is its practical expression. That means a Muslim has to actualize the commands and prohibitions of God given in the Qur'an by following in all the areas of life, Allah's Messenger, Muhammad (pbuh).

On the contrary, the corrupt writers of Bible invent nonsensical fairy tales slanders and insult the prophets of God so they could not be role models for their people to emulate. They would not be able to lead their people a life of virtue when the Bible itself slanders and insults them.

I am not surprised to see the Bible insulting and slandering the prophets of God because the Bible is corrupted and unreliable and is mostly filled with man-made laws and corruption! "`How can you say, "We [the Jews] are wise, for we have the law of the LORD," when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it (the Bible) falsely?' (From the NIV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

The Revised Standard Version makes it even clearer: "How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has made it (the Bible) into a lie. (From the RSV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

In either translation, we clearly see that the Jews had so much corrupted the Bible with their man-made cultural laws, that they had turned the Bible into a lie!

Some of accusations of the Bible against the Prophets:

1) In the book of Genesis, 19, 30-38, it is written that the two daughters of the Prophet Lot got their father to drink wine and then lay with him so as to become pregnant by him. This is obviously the most disgusting of calumnies that could be uttered or written against a Prophet. Lot’s people of the cities of Sodom and Gomorra were destroyed by God because of their immoralities, and Lot and his daughters were, according to the Bible itself, the only ones to be spared from that destruction on account of their belief, good conduct and decency. The crime of which the Bible accuses the Prophet Lot is worse than what his people were destroyed for.

2) In the book of Genesis, chapter 38, a story is mentioned in which Jacob’s son, Judah, is supposed to have fornicated with the wife of his son. The woman gave birth, as a result of this fornication, to twin boys, and some of the israelite Prophets were descended from them.

3) In the second book of Samuel, chapter 11, it is written that the Prophet David fell in love with the wife of one of his commanders and slept with her without marriage. According to the Bible, he also got the commander to be put in the front line where the fighting was fiercest and, after the death of the commander, he married his wife.

The fairy tale of the Bible is refuted by the Holy Quran:

David, upon him be peace, is a Prophet who was given a Divine Scripture — the Psalms — and who is praised in the Qur’an for his sincere and profound devotion to God:

Be patient at what they say, and remember Our servant David, the man of strength and abilities. For he ever turned to God in sincere devotion and submission. It was We that made the mountains declare, in unison with him, Our praises, at eventide and at the break of day, and the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn to Him (in profound devotion). We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and sound judgement (in speech and decision.) The Holy Quran, Sad, 38:17-20

The Bible is corrupted into a lie by the corrupt and immoral writers of the Bible to slander the prophets of God:

Conclusion:

Mankind was one single nation, and Allah sent Messengers with glad tidings and warnings; and with them He sent the Book in truth, to judge between people in matters wherein they differed; but the People of the Book, after the clear Signs came to them, did not differ among themselves, except through selfish contumacy. Allah by His Grace Guided the believers to the Truth, concerning that wherein they differed. For Allah guided whom He will to a path that is straight. The Holy Quran 2:213

We send the messengers only to give good news and to warn: so those who believe and mend (their lives),- upon them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. The Holy Quran 6:48

######,

There is no such thing as a perfect human being. The Bible does not sugar coat their lives but exposes their scandals. The Bible and the Koran say that no one is free from sin or temptation. It is a misconception to ascribe perfection, which only God can have, to the human prophets. You are trying to make the prophets equal to God by ascribing to them perfection. They were human and flawed and the servants of God. Before each prophet was called, they were ordinary men living their lives. Once they were called they were subject to a higher standard, but they still were human and subject to normal human frailties.

And what point would it serve for all the prophets to be perfect and sinless? What hope would an average person have, especially one new to the family of believers? The flaws give hope and promote the message of God.

You have an idealized vision of the Prophets that does not fit with your arguments in other areas. You can't have it both ways.

Brother RobS,

Would you recommend adulterers, murderers, criminals, liars, hypocrites, swindlers etc as your ideal role models for your family and you to emulate? Would they exhort your family and you to worship Allah the One True God and Only and to lead a life of virtue? Would you trust them with all your heart? Would you trust a robber, thief or swindler with your property, money and your family? Would you trust an adulterer with your wife and daughters? Would you ask a liar or hypocrite to tell you the truth? Would you........?......Oh so many questions to ask you.

Allah (God) will not choose an immoral corrupt person etc to pass on His message for Allah is the All-Knowing and All-Wise. The immoral corrupt person would most likely to distort the message and mislead and corrupt his people. Jeremiah 8:8 has proven that the corrupt immoral writers of the Bible have corrupted the Bible into a lie.

When Almighty Allah perfected the Prophet's character, Allah praised him and said, "(And verily, you (O Muhammad) are on an exalted (standard of) character.)" (Al-Qalam 68:4) … Thereafter, the Messenger of Allah explained to humankind that Allah loves the fine qualities of character and detests the bad qualities of character.

Being as such, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spent a great deal of time educating the Companions about the importance of good behavior and manners. He gave glad tidings for those who will adhere to his teachings as he said, "The heaviest thing to be placed in the balance of a servant (of Allah) on the Day of Judgment will be good behavior. And Allah hates the obscene and the person who uses bad language" (At-Tirmidhi). Moreover, it is narrated that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The most perfect of the believers in faith is the one who is best in manners" (At-Tirmidhi).

In explaining this hadith, Al-Mubarakfori says, "He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The most perfect of the believers in faith is the one who is best in manners," because perfection of faith implies a good character and good behavior toward all people."

Based on this, we understand that good qualities cannot be separated from Islam; in fact, they are Islam. Imam Al-Fairouz Abadi says in his book Basa'ir Dhawil-Tamyeez "It should be noted that religion is all character. Whoever excels over you in character will excel over you in religious commitment."

The Prophet Muhammad(sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) is known as the as-Sadiq and al-’Alamin (the Truthful and the Trustworthy). People during his time, except the most arrogant unbelievers among them, believed him as such. The following Hâdîth for instance tells us:

Ibn Abbas (radhiallahu anhu) narrated that when the Verse: "And warn your tribe of near kindred.” (26:214) was revealed, Allah’s Messenger (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) went out, and when he had ascended As-Safa mountain, he shouted, "O Sabahah!" The people said, "Who is that?” "Then they gathered around him, whereupon he said, "Do you see? If I inform you that cavalrymen are proceeding up the side of this mountain, will you believe me” They said, “We have never heard you telling a lie.” Then he (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) said, "I am a plain warner to you of a coming severe punishment.” (Bukhari 6/495)

The Prophet (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) is known to have always told the truth even when he joked with his Companions. In fact, he even cursed those who make lies just to make people laugh:

Abu Hurairah (radhiallahu anhu) narrated that when they said, “Messenger of Allah, do you make jokes with us!” He (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied, “I say nothing but the truth.” (Tirmidhi 4885)

Mu'awiyah Ibn Jaydah al-Qushayri (radhiallahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam) said, “Woe to him who tells things, speaking falsely, to make people laugh thereby. Woe to him! Woe to him!” (Abu Dawud 4972)

We, the Du’ât should emulate the great Messenger of Allah. We must fear Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) and always tell the truth. As Muslims, we are expected to be truthful and trustworthy:

O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are truthful.” (The Holy Quran 9:119)

That Allah will reward the people of Truth for their Truth, and punish the Hypocrites if that be His Will, or turn to them in Mercy; for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (The Holy Quran 33:24)

Apart from seeing Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the Messenger of God gifted with divine revelation, one can remarkably see him as an ideal example of a perfect human character.

Prophet Muhammad is a person who strove hard for the well-being of his community and of humanity at large. His farsightedness and ability to correctly read events of his time and to anticipate results helped him, along with divine wisdom from God, to address people's emotions and to win their hearts before their minds. His human touch was inescapable, and his personal appeal and gentle approach won the hearts of enemies before those of friends.

His cousin and Companion Ali is reported to have asserted this distinctive aspect of the Prophet's character:

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to win the hearts of his Companions with his kind approach. He was never harsh or hardhearted. In his meetings, he used to treat all equally; listening to them all and giving all equal chance to participate in the ongoing discussions. He was a very patient negotiator, and he never withdrew himself from the discussion unless the negotiators themselves leave first. Whenever someone asked him for something, he was keen to fulfil his wish. If not, then he will please his heart with kind words. Among people, he was known by good manners and to them all he was like an affectionate father.

Missed by Friends When Absent

A man like Muhammad was the solace to his friends' souls. They would miss him very much if he went to mind personal matters, even if for a short while. This is the feeling you might have when your soul mate is absent; you always wait in anticipation for him or her to come back. That was the case with the Companions and Prophet Muhammad.

Abu Mohammad Al-Hussein Al-Baghawi in his Ma`alim At-Tanzeel (Landmarks of Revelation) mentions that Thawban, one of the Companions who showed this real love, once came to the Prophet with sadness portrayed on his face. Upon seeing him, Muhammad inquired about this noticeable sadness and very pale face.

This reflects how close the Prophet was to his friends and Companions. He would even ask about these things that we may consider trivial or unnecessary. Thawban replied,

O Messenger of God, I do not suffer from any disease. When our daily meetings come to an end, I miss you a lot until we meet the next day. Now, I remember the Last Day where you will be granted a very special status along with the other prophets and messengers. If God destined me to enter Paradise, then we will not meet due to different degrees, as surely my degree in Paradise will be lower than yours. If God destined me to enter the Hellfire, then we will not meet.

Hearing this, the Prophet remained silent for a while to receive the following revelation shortly afterwards:

[And whoever obeys God and the Messenger, these are with those upon whom God has bestowed favors from among the Prophets and the truthful and the martyrs and the good, and a goodly company they are.] (An-Nisaa' 4:69)

People of Other Faiths

Muhammad's good manners were not confined to his close friends and Companions. His manners exceeded them to encompass different nationalities and creeds. He taught his Companions how to respect others regardless of their faith, race, color, or creed.

One day, he was sitting among his Companions. A funeral of a Jew from the people of Madinah was passing by, and upon seeing it, the Prophet stood up. His astonished Companions said, "O Prophet of God! He is a Jew." The Prophet taught them how to be respectful Muslims considerate to others' feelings by saying, "Isn't he the dead Jew a soul created by God?"

How far do we go in our hasty judgments on others? How many quick decisions do we make unknowingly and unwisely about our fellow humans? Don't we learn from the above example the respect Muhammad extended to a dead soul? He never derided or cursed a human being or even an animal. He was a caring and lovable character. Violence and harshness are never found in his dictionary.

Dealing With His Enemies

Many are the false, horrible stories one can hear and read about Prophet Muhammad being bloodthirsty and war-loving. Had those who study his character attempted to be objective in their studies, they would have realized that he was really a war-hating and merciful commander. He addressed his Companions on the night of the Battle of Badr saying, "Don't ever wish to meet the enemy, but if you are forced to , then be patient" (Al-Bukhari). "If you are forced to do that" means that confrontation was an option he did not prefer.

He was never offensive in his wars and military campaigns. His enemies ask for confrontation, and he enters wars for solely defending his beliefs and his community. He won the hearts of his enemies on the day he victoriously entered Makkah, without wasting a single soul.

One of the Companions, Sa`d ibn `Ubadah, once felt conceited on that day and raised his voice saying, "Today is the day of fierce war, a day in which inviolable rules will become violable, and a day to let Quraish taste humiliation." Upon hearing him, the victorious leader declared, "No, Sa`d! This day is the day of mercy. This is a day when honor cannot be transgressed. This is an honorable day for Quraish."

He never denied his enemies their dignity or honor. He never stripped them of their human characteristics.

He was someone who declared general amnesty before Amnesty International came to existence in today's world. He declared it before all and in broad daylight saying, "Go, you are free " These very people are those who drove the Prophet and all followers of Islam in Makkah out of their homeland (Makkah). They are the ones who relentlessly and fiercely oppressed him and his followers for more than 21 years.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has been and will always be a human being from whom Muslims learn how to love and deal with one another, and form healthy relationships in today's global village. He left his personal impact on people as a human being before God entrusted him with His message.

Conclusion:

The Messenger Muhammad (s.a.w.s.) possesses an exalted (standard of) character (Qur’an 68:4) and an excellent exemplar for him who hopes in Allah (S.W.T.) and the Final Day, and who remembers Allah (S.W.T.) much (Qur’an 33: 21). Allah (S.W.T.) endowed him with exalted standard of character for us to follow. Every aspect of his life has been fully dealt with, providing complete guidance to the whole mankind. For our guidance, Allah (S.W.T.), the All-Mighty commands us to believe and obey His Messenger (s.a.w.s.):

"Say (O Muhammad to mankind): “If you (really) love Allâh then follow me (i.e. accept Islâmic Monotheism, follow the Qur’ھn and the Sunnah), Allâh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” Say (O Muhammad): “Obey Allâh and the Messenger (Muhammad).” But if they turn away, then Allâh does not like the disbelievers." (Qur’an 3: 31)

The God that Never Was

Islam is the only religion which teaches the existence of a PERFECT God. A perfect God means that there is no sharer in His Nature an His Attributes:

"Say: He is God, the One and Only; God, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; and there is none like unto Him." (Holy Qur'an,112:1-4)

There has appeared a man in Benoni. He is not qualified in theology, but is fondly cherishing the self-delusion that he is an apostle of Christ, appointed by God to convert Muslims to Christianity. Because he is a lawyer by profession, he is adept at juggling with words and quoting the Holy Qur'an totally out of context without knowing a word of Arabic. He wants Muslims to believe that Jesus was also a God, a belief that is abhorrent to us, because it is an antithesis of the Absolute perfection of Allah Subhaanahoo Wa Ta'Aala!

Thus intent upon reversing the process of Truth, which is: "And say: The Truth has come and falsehood vanished. Surely falsehood is ever bound to vanish." (Qur'an, 17:81). In this he will never succeed because the process of Truth is irreversible.

TWO REASONS

He has given two reasons to prove that Jesus is God, viz: (i) "When we say Jesus is deity (or even God for that matter), we do not make him the Father! He is one with the Father and therefore HE SHARES HIS NATURE", and (ii) "HE IS IN EVERY WAY LIKE THE FATHER but he is not the Father".

In short, according to him, Jesus is God because He SHARES THE NATURE OF GOD, and HE IS IN EVERY WAY LIKE GOD. These two reasons given by him to prove the divinity of Jesus are so puerile that they speak volumes of his legal training.

Numerous quotations from the Bible are given below to prove that Jesus neither SHARED THE NATURE OF GOD, nor is he IN EVERY WAY LIKE GOD. He can, therefore, NEVER be GOD. We have given the quotations from the Bible without comment, because the Bible speaks for itself! TO SAY THAT JESUS IS GOD OR SON OF GOD IS NOT ONLY A MOCKERY OF GODHOOD, BUT BLASPHEMY OF THE LOWEST ORDER AND AND INSULT TO THE INTELLIGENCE OF MEN! (Note: Unless otherwise stated, all quotation from the Bible are given from the Authorized Version. In our headings and subheadings we have referred to Jesus as "God" in inverted commas in order to show the ABSURDITY of the claim of this man that Jesus is God!)

THE BIRTH OF "GOD"

"God" was created from the seed of David: "Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the SEED of David according to the flesh." (Romans, 1:3)

"God" was the fruit of the loins of David: "Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne." (Acts, 2:30)

The Ancestors of "God": "The generations of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." (Matthew, 1:1)

The Sex of "God": "And when eight days were accomplished for the

circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus." (Luke, 2:21)

And he said unto them, unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that without, all these things are done in parables: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them." EPILOGUE

According to this self-appointed apostle of Christ, Jesus is God because: (i) "HE SHARED THE NATURE OF GOD", and (ii) because "IN EVERY WAY HE IS LIKE GOD". But according to the quotations of the Bible given above, we find that Jesus did neither SHARE THE NATURE OF GOD nor is he IN EVERY WAY LIKE GOD.

He is, therefore, definitely NOT God! The onus to prove that Jesus is God now rests with this Christian. Either he must prove that Jesus is God, or he must admit that he is a polytheist, i.e., a believer in more than one God. WITH ALL THE TRICKS AND VERBAL LEGERDEMAIN OF HIS PROFESSION, HE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO PROVE THAT JESUS IS GOD!!

He and his fellow-preachers in Christ, will never succeed in convincing the Muslims that Jesus was anything other than a natural man and a prophet of

God, sent unto the house of israel to bear the good news of the coming of the KINGDOM OF GOD, which prophecy was fulfilled with the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammed (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)!
