France Enters Muslim Cartoon Row

Recommended Posts

Proof? If something holds a confidential stamp, of course. But these drawings are topsecret plans for the recolonization of Norway and Sweden, they are just drawings, made completely independently of danish government.

The point is that we in the West do have the means (and have used them) to stop anything from being published, and national security was only one example I cited...

Mm yes, freedom of speech is a tad bit offkey isnt it. Because harm to the indivudual human being is not JUST physical so freedom of speech should encompass anything else. Particularly religion.

There's no way you can just stay "Passive" and just accept it, ignore it, and move on. Thats like telling the black people decades ago to ignore verbal discrimination (which remember, escalted into physical violence) because it was within their freedom of speech. Its exactly the same thing here. Passivism just breeds insensitivity. There's no way you can get muslims to desensitise about such things in our religion just because it "fuels the fire".

The French forgot to champion the cause of Free Speech when an embarassing image of Chirac was taken down.

Controversial images of Queen Elizabeth II, George W Bush and Jacques Chirac apparently having sex have been removed from billboards in Austria. The posters, shown as part of a public arts project ahead of Austria's EU presidency, had provoked wide outcry.

Condemning what they described as "public censorship", the artists said the posters had been misunderstood. No-one had bothered "to engage with the artistic message" of the billboards, they added.

But denying his works were meant to offend, Aires told Austria's APA news agency: "Pornography is in the eye of the beholder. "I suddenly had this image of three decision makers who are having an orgy while everything around them collapses."

Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel was not able to ban the posters but had appealed to the independent artists' group running the project to withdraw some of them. In a statement, 25Peaces said: "We regret this development that totally distorted the image of the entire project."

Opposition leaders and some of Austria's media complained the images demeaned women and had embarrassed their country as it prepares to take over the rotating EU presidency on 1 January.

Our brave campaigners for freedom of expression are not brave enough to tackle western repression :D

But when the governments fail to react, the people will!

I've no doubt the Austrian forums were filled with outrage for their childish and intollerant ways!

France Soir and Germany's Die Welt were among the leading papers to reprint the cartoons...

France Soir originally said it had published the images in full to show "religious dogma" had no place in a secular society.

But late on Wednesday its owner, Raymond Lakah, said he had removed managing editor Jacques Lefranc "as a powerful sign of respect for the intimate beliefs and convictions of every individual".

Mr Lakah said: "We express our regrets to the Muslim community and all people who were shocked by the publication."

Denmark is threatened, France surrenders!

Good move by the owner. Just because you can do something doesnt mean you should. No need to inflame teh situation even more.

Denmark is threatened, France surrenders!

Now, while France has a tradition of surrendering, that's not significant in this case.

The owner of the newspaper is an egyptian muslim. There you go.

Assalamu Alaykum

Is the right of freedom of speech only for the white people but not for everyone? Is it freedom of expression to wear a beard and to wear hijaab and niqaab? Did the West had the right to colonialize the world? The Messengers of Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, are our brothers and we will not let anyone injure their reputation. Adam, aleihi salam, is our brother in Islam, Jesus, aleihi salam, is our brother in Islam. Muhammad, sallallahu aleihi wassallam, is our brother in Islam. Jonah, aleihi salam, is our brother in Islam. The property of every Muslim is sacred, but the reputation and the blood of the Muslims are even more sacred.

Every Muslim is a brother of every Muslim, and all Muslims constitute one brotherhood/sisterhood. If a brother or sister is slandered or molested, even if they are living in their graves already, we are there to assist our brothers and sisters as their brothers and sisters.

Salam

Colonization was several generations ago and before we ousted our dictators here in the west. And why are you suddenly talking about beards? Is any gov't in this world enforcing shaving? I've only heard of gov't prohibiting shaving, but they didn't really have freedom of expression.

Some more morons :D

Newspapers across Europe have reprinted caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad to show support for a Danish paper whose cartoons have sparked Muslim outrage.

Seven publications in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain all carried some of the drawings.

Their publication in Denmark led Arab nations to protest. Islamic tradition bans depictions of the Prophet.

The owner of one of the papers to reprint - France Soir - has now sacked its managing editor over the matter.

The cartoons have sparked diplomatic sanctions and death threats in some Arab nations, while media watchdogs have defended publication of the images in the name of press freedom.

Reporters Without Borders said the reaction in the Arab world "betrays a lack of understanding" of press freedom as "an essential accomplishment of democracy."

Since Muhammed has never been seen, there is no reason why he couldn't look like one of the 12 drawings suggests.

You need to choose your words more carefully, because your statement is suggesting that the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) could have looked like and evil bomber...

Those cartoons are not funny nor are they creative!

What's funny or creative about depicting another faiths Prophet in such a light?

The only reason that comes to mind is that person and the horde who support him/her have sinister intentions...

They are nothing more than a sick propagandistic tool for you...

That's mighty brave of the idiots in Denmark and the rest of horde who followed in your footsteps, since you don't have Jewels to publish a cartoon mocking a member of the Jewish faith with huge ears, a crooked nose, with a bag of gold in his hand...

And if someone dares to do that, the Christians will condemn such an act before the Jews ever do...

This was no innocent act, nor was it freedom of speech...

It was a calculated act of provocation...

And those idiots choose to display solidarity by condoning such an outrageous act.

Its not only obscene but its creating law and order situation baby... second! !! The reaction is muslim's right and you know the reason, so find out the root cause. Kill the disease(stupid actions like cartoons) instead of patient (muslim reaction)

Freedom of speech has limits, a speech without wisdom is ##...

Look, you have the right to be angry, and to protest, etc. What you don't have is the right to dictate to us what we can and cannot do.

What's funny or creative about depicting another faiths Prophet in such a light?

I bet if the drawings were of Budha, none of you would care.

Newspapers across Europe have reprinted caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad to show support for a Danish paper whose cartoons have sparked Muslim outrage.

They aren't printing them to offend Muslims (although that is their effact), they're publishing them to support both free speech and free press. Sorry, but those are both things you nor any group has the right to deny us.

Do these cartoons really injure Mohammed's reputation?

No, this is a case of injured pride.

Freedom of speech includes the speech of idiots. When you put limits on free speech, they have to be very specific. Anything left open to interpretation WILL be abused.

The West ridicules all religions equally. This is not a case of Muslim persecution.

So Muslims are trying to dictate to the West how to live. We finally get to the source. I knew this was the case, all along.

You should then applaud the US interventionist foreign policy, Al Faqeer. They are the same.

Is this a challenge, Al Faqeer? I'm sure we can find a way to make the Danes look mild. And if this makes you angry, it's because you're wrong.

In the west it's very normal to see comedy shows making fun of Jesus PBUH, i've seen him getting drunk, cursing around, even having sex in comedy shows :D . what all non muslims living in the west (christians live in the middle east have respect for Jesus PBUH) should know is that not because you take it lightly, Muslims should do too.

it's not an over reaction at all like some of you claim

Semantics, Al Faqeer. Muslims have no right to dictate what Westerners do, just as the US has no right to dictate what Muslims do. They are the same.

If you're going to insult someone, you've got to expect the consequences. Some people are being very childish here and failing to understand the basics of society.

e.g. I walk up to a 'large' woman and start telling her 'fat' jokes. She slaps me and I spend the rest of the day crying over her action?

Get over it!

Ya, I've heard this before. Muslims love the prophet very much, etc, etc. Obviously, the feelings of Muslims are more important than the feelings of Westerners.
