# What Is 1+1 = ?

## Recommended Posts

:D

This is my blog and what the heck lets have some fun..

As the title states what is 1 + 1 = ??

And ill tell you its NOT 2 !!

Note: This is not a trick question, no iffs or buts, just as you see it..

Also note: a handful of you may know the answer but you have to explain how :D..

:D ..

:D

:D

but 1 + 1 = 2!!!

there is no way that 1 + 1 cannot equal to 2!

or it could be 1 + 1= 11. ehhehe

:D

When you're doing logic gates, 1+1=1, the system does not comprehend anything but 0 and 1. Don't know if that is the right answer.

Baree you are wrong :D!

CE, you are wrong but you are on the right track :D !

Assalamu alaikum, I have an accountant friend she just bought this calculator called One plus one, hahaha. It helps her with in her job and has something to do with her palm OS. I am not into those things, But had to listen to her talk about the virtues of her one plus one.

I know it's not the answer Hasib is seeking, but, it is something none the less, seeing there are only 2 replies. As far as i am concerned 1+1=1. Please don't ask me why, because I don't have an expalanation for it. umAhmad.

uA you are wrong too :D!!!

The person who is atleat on the right track is CE..

Cheers..

1+1=window

you put the 1,+,1 together then put the lines of the equal sign, one on top and one on the bottom! :D

Any other takers?? omg this is delightfully so evil :D ..

Are we talking binary numbers here ? :D

##### Share on other sites

:D

Ok is it the binary system like llogical said?

The binary arithmetic would produce 10, 1+1=10 but pronounced one, zero rather ten, sa7?

##### Share on other sites

:D

you know, it occured to me this morning that this thing was all about binary thingie. is that right hasib?

##### Share on other sites

:D

1+1=10 :D

"The binary arithmetic would produce 10"

:D :D

and btw I put my answer in before I saw Crystal Eyes sister's post. :D

I have put this in for fun,

here is the proof that 1+1=2 :D

Proof that 1+1=2

Proof that 1 + 1 = 2 Using Peano's Postulates:

How do I prove that 1 + 1 = 2?

Peano's Postulates are:

1. Let S be a set such that for each element x of S there exists a unique element x' of S.

2. There is an element in S, we shall call it 1, such that for every element x of S, 1 is not equal to x'.

3. If x and y are elements of S such that x' = y', then x = y.

4. If M is any subset of S such that 1 is an element of M, and for every element x of M, the element x' is also an element of M, then M = S.

Just as a matter of notation, we write 1' = 2, 2' = 3, etc. We define addition in S as follows:

(a1) x + 1 = x'

(a2) x + y' = (x + y)'

The element x + y is called the sum of x and y.

Now to prove that 1 + 1 = 2.

From (a1), with x = 1, we see that 1 + 1 = 1' = 2.

Standard properties of addition - for example, x + y = y + x for all x and y in S - can be proved by induction (which is based on Peano's Postulate #4.

This stuff is Uni level Maths btw, which I have been reading on.:D

Inshallah you like the proof above,it had to come into this topic "What Is 1+1="

Salaams

Firts off, we don't know if Hasib is Indeed talking about binary numbers.

And if he is then c'mon people...Stop stealing my idea :D

:D

I do actually :D

Hasib should get that memory jogging and remember that he posted this question before.

Oh yes I did a search

was there a prize? no ? so psh :D

1+1= 10 IN BINARY :D..

KUDOS TO WHOEVER GOT IT FIRST :D.. I EVEN GOTA PM FROM SOMEONE :D..

So is llogical the winner then :D???

:D Arrriight.

I can't believe someone actually who pmed the answer :D

That's cheating :D ...and immediate grounds for disqualifications :D

Anywho....Being the modest person i am, no gloating :D

let a = 1

let b = 1

therefore

a = b

multiply both sides by a

a² = ab

subtract b² from both sides:

a² - b² = ab - b²

factorise both sides

( a - b )( a + b ) = b ( a - b )

the ( a - b ) terms cancel, leaving:

a+b=b

that is

1+1=1

The trick is that the ( a - b ) terms do not just cancel; the process involves dividing both sides by ( a - b ), however, because a=b, then you're dividing by 0 (zero), which is a math error.

What do I win?? :D

Nothing! you just gave me a headache with all that math!!

man both you 2 are late hahahaah..

its already been solved 1+1=10 in binary logic :D..

:D

##### Share on other sites

Yea, I saw. But my answer is much better. :D

Besides, you didn't specify it to be binary--so it was kinda a stupid question.

I could say "what is 123+35353"? And you will never (well..) get it right; cos all I've got to do is keep changing the radix.

Ah well; I love to moan.

##### Share on other sites

:D

I know I didnt specify what base it was :D.. that was part of the problem cause most people would say 1+1=2 and I said no, so they had to think whats going on here and I said its not a trick question too :D :D..
