Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory charity on every Muslim at the end of the month of Ramadan. Ibn `Umar said: "The Prophet, , enjoined the payment of one Sa'a of dates or one Sa'a of barley as Zakat al-Fitr on every Muslim, young and old, male and female, free and slave." (Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Zakat al-Fitr has to be paid by the end of Ramadhan. There are two times to pay Zakat al-Fitr. Either one or two days before Eid as 'Umar used to do, or the day of Eid before the Eid prayer. Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet, , ordered them to pay Zakat al-Fitr before they go out to perform the Eid prayer. If Zakat al-Fitr is paid after the Eid prayer, it will only be considered as regular charity. The Prophet, , said: "If one pays Zakat al-Fitr before the Salat, it is considered an accepted Zakat, if he pays it after the Salat, it is considered an ordinary charity." (Related by Abu Dawud.)

Zakat al-Fitr is to be given to the same eight categories or people as in the other types of Zakat. Some scholars say that the poor and the needy are the most deserving ones since the Prophet, , said that it had "...the purpose of providing food for the needy."

I hope this helps insha'Allah :D

For the benefit of muslims, you guys need to read the question. He did not ask when Fitra (Zakaat-alFitr) is due. He asked when Zakat mal (2.5%) was due.

The Zakat-al-fitr is due before the Eid prayer. Zakat-ul-mal is due later, so you only have to worry about the Fitra for now.

How am i supposed to know when he didnt write zakat mal. I had good intentions when replying to this post, which were to help him. I didnt maliciously write the wrong thing and pehaps he should be clearer with his words next time...and you need to be a little nicer in your manners Samee.

That was kinda harsh for what u said, first of all no body responds and when someone does u just dis credit them, this is a community dude, just give ur honest answeres and finito, coz from what i read from the laters posts u really discouraged them from ever posting again, the question was not worded appropriately, You just cant say HOW ARE YOU, and except to get the answers about the well being of the person's family now can you. like wise.

Eeps 24"snt there 2 zakat's? ........... zakat fitr and zakat mal? ..... one is 2.5% and the other is like about $7 per person.......both have to be paid before eid? or just 1 of them?"

If u see it clearly the POSTER HIMSELF did not specify clearly which Zakaat he was talking about so naturally who ever would answer would post about Zakaat in generality., so please make sure u post and encourage and thank people for their post and not critisize.
