Hmmm, Chirac was wonderful in one regard: He had the most beautiful spoken French making him very easy to listen to and useful to learn from!

Sarkozy will be better for France than Royale IMHO as he actually agrees that it is the French market structure which is causing prblems. I worry about his impact on Turkish EU membership however as he has always been adamently against it. Given the current political instability in Turkey, to have a person who was more open to their membership would have been jolly useful.

Peace and Love,

I think that Sarkozy was better than Ségolène. I listened to their debate for a bit, and it was clear that Sarkozy was more knowledgable, at least in the economic departement. I think he might've exaggerated when he said that 800 000 French suffer from Alzheimer's disease. He wasn't as aggressive as Segolene was, that made him appear a bit weak, although it he lead the debate in an indirect way. His victory speech was a bit unoriginal.

I like the guy, a lot. He looks like hes going to try and bring France back from the bloated welfare state it's becoming, and he's actually got the nerve to tackle a lot of France's security and immigration issues instead of backing down and passing the buck.

He's also said that he plans to give government susidies to French Masjids ( churches already get them). He's hoping that if the Masjids and Islamic schools do not need to go to outside groups for money, they will not be unduly influenced by radical Islamist groups. Sounds like a pretty sharp plan to me.
