Chechnya’s Women, Raped And Martyrs

Recommended Posts

Russian soldiers break in their houses, kidnap, rape and kill. Almost never are the culprits punished, the government prefers to cover everything up. And the girls choose to become terrorists for the shame. This was the case for two of the suicide bombers who on October 23, 2002 occupied Moscow’s Nord-Ost theatre.

The Kugayev family lived on the outskirts of the village of Tangi-Chu. On that night, as they usually did, Visa and Rosa had just put their five children to bed with their clothes on, ready to flee quickly in case of danger. And that night the danger came at around one o’ clock, when the silence in the sleeping village was broken by the roar of three Russian military trucks, and by the volleys shot by the AK-47s. So would the Russian soldiers usually announce their arrival.

Mr and Mrs Kugayev woke up with a start. Visa went to wake up her elder daughter, 18-year-old Elsa, telling her to wake up all her little brothers and sisters and to escape with them. But they didn’t have the time to do it. Four soldiers of the 160th armoured division smashed in the door and broke in. Everybody expected their usual behaviour, the usual searching for escaped rebels or weapons, together with screams, insults, threats, beatings and destructions of the house’s poor furnishings. However, this wasn’t the case.

That night the soldiers came in quietly, went straight to the children’s room and took Khaya, the 13-year-old middle sister. But they let her go as soon as they noticed the presence of Elsa. They took her away, while she kept screaming asking their parents to help her, but they could do nothing under the threat of the AK-47s. Once the soldiers had gone out Adlan, the smallest brother, ran out towards his sister, but a soldier hit him on his head with the gun butt, making him faint.

Elsa was brought to a barracks, repeatedly raped and then strangled to death. The Kugayevs fled to Ingushetia, from where they have fought asking for justice. And three years later they won. Lieutenant Colonel Yuri Budanov, who on that night was leading the operation from a truck, was acquitted but then sentenced in appeal to ten years of prison for abduction, murder and rape. Unfortunately, Budanov is one of the few Russian officers who paid for his actions: the Russian justice tends to cover up every case that arrives before a court.

The cases of sexual violence on Chechen girls by Russian soldiers are everyday occurrences. And they are not only a tragedy and an injustice that tarnish the Kremlin’s reputation heavily, but also the main cause of a sad and disturbing phenomenon. Rapes are the main cause of women’s conversion to the armed struggle, which means to suicide-bombing terrorism. The victims of violence, who in the Chechen society are blamed and emarginated, clam up and often choose death by becoming “shaheedâ€, martyrs.

This was, for example, the Ganiyevv sisters’ case, two of the Chechen suicide bombers who on October 23, 2002 took part in the famous intervention at Moscow’s Nord-Ost theatre. The stalemate was solved by a Russian special forces’ blitz. Using lethal gas, they killed 118 people between hostages and terrorists. Aminat and Khadizhat, like Elsa, had been kidnapped by Russian soldiers and then raped in 2001. After their release, they had gone back to their village, but wouldn’t talk to anybody. In their silence of shame and grudge they reached the decision of sacrificing their lives for Chechen independence cause.

Unfortunately, Moscow responded to this new phenomenon in the worst way. After the theatre tragedy, the Kremlin launched a military operation in Chechnya aimed at hitting the Chechen women suspected of participating in the separatist armed struggle. Operation “Fatimaâ€, this is its code name, has obvioulsy been a pretext for new violences against women. And this will produce new martyrs and new martyrdoms.

Alsalamu Alikum Wa Wb

Hasbuna Allah Wa Ni'ma Al-Wakeel, every time I hear stories like that I just feel so angry and ashamed of our status, killing, rapping, humiliating Muslims became a daily news in all medias and we are just in silence of lambs, sheep waiting for their Butchers :sl: .

Subhanallah, our Umma have from prospects & constituents what would make it at the Top of all Nations, simply by adhering to its religion and getting close to God, and knowing that glory will never come by following eastern or western countries Glory only comes from Allah side.

May Allah use us in what he want, and forgive for us our negligence toward our Sisters and brothers, Ameeen

As long as they don't go back to gunning down schools full of children, I'm all for them... but that hostage situation in the elementary school was just bad business...

Since Russian forces have killed women and children just like the Beslam massacre some Chechen elements will do the Beslam and other incidents. And saltwater it was because the Russians tried to attack the school that the massacre occured, just like the Moscow theatre.

The Russian soldiers have terrorized and massacred more than 200 000 innocent and defenseless people of Chechnya and the people of Chechnya have their right to defend their fatherland and protect innocent Muslims against the brutal Russian Armed Forces. Chechen people have declared the independence of Chechnya after the fall of Soviet Union but Russians refuse to accept its independence so the Russian soldiers attack and occupy Chechnya and torture, rape and massacre 200 000 innocent Chechen babies, toddlers, children, women, elderly people, unarmed men etc in Chechnya.

Chechen soldiers managed to defeat the Russian forces and forced the Russians to withdraw. However Russian agents impersonated Chechen soldiers and attacked Chechnya's neighbours so the Russian regime had a pretext to attack and occupy Chechnya and terrorize Chechen babies, toddlers, children, women, elderly people, unarmed men etc in Chechnya.

The brutal actions of the Russians forced the Chechen fighters to retaliate by taking hostages in the Moscow theater to force the Russian regime into solving the Chechnya problem peacefully but the Russians are not interested in peace talk so Putin ordered Russian special forces to gas the Russians and Chechens to death. Putin didn't care about Russians and Chechens.

The brutal and sadistic atrocities committed by Russian forces in Chechnya forced Chehchen fighters to seize a school in Beslan to force the Russian regime into a peace talk and the Russian regime promised to Chechen fighters that it would solve Chechnya problem peacefully only to find that Putin ordered Russian special forces to massacre Chechens and Russian school children in Beslan. Putin hoped that the Chechen fighters would become his scapegoats. The fighting began when the Russian special forces stormed the school. Once again Putin showed us that he didn't care about Russians and Chechens.

The fact that Putin doesnt care for chechens(or russians) does not give chechens the right to take children hostages. That is inexcusable.

it doesnt give them an excuse - but we cant put ourselves in their shoes. judging them according to the facts of our comfortable lives is wrong

for example the leader of the hostage-takers had his 5 baby children and his wife killed before beslan - maybe if the same had happened to us, we would too react in unorthodox ways to stop the slow genocide

to stop things like beslan, it is also important to stop the situations that create beslan

We all understand that suffering often makes people do things they normally wouldn't, but children are still children. Children are innocents in every way of the word. To harm a hair on their heads is never justifiable, regardless of the circumstances. Which isn't to say that I'm not sympathetic with what's happening to the Muslims, but there are limits.

2 points

1) it was never their intention to kill the people in the school - just to hold them until putin was forced to negotiate. many hostages themselves testify that the hostage-takers were rying to get them out when the russians stormed the school

2) that doesnt mean that they were justfied in holding children as hostages - but as i said earlier we cant put ourselves in their shoes.

when we have our wives and children killed, we might do something outrageous in a bid to stop it - the best way to avoid a beslan is to stop creating more situations for beslan

MY COMMENT:

As far as I know, Chechen fighters who are Muslims did not and do not murder any Russian children. And most of the Chechen fighters have seen how their sons, daughters, wives, husbands, members of their families, father, mother, relatives, friends, etc raped, tortured and massacred by the brutal Russian soldiers who are mostly Christians. On the contrary the Chechen fighters did not and do not murder Russian children.

The brutal Russian forces had already tortured, raped and massacred 200 000 innocent and defenseless Chechen babies, toddlers, children, women, elderly people, unarmed men etc so to stop the Russian genocide of Chechen people ,very few Chechen fighters whose children etc were murdered by Russian forces used some Russian children in Beslan as hostages to force the Russian regime and Putin to recognize the independence of Chechnya to save 1.1 million of Chechen people. And the Russian regime promised to the Chechen fighters that it would consider their demand only to find that Putin ordered the Russian special forces to storm the schools and massacre all the Russian children and Chechen fighters in the school and then Putin blamed the Chechen fighters for the deaths.
