Genghis Khan: Forefather To 0.5% Of World's Male Population

Recommended Posts

Warlord Khan has 16m male relatives alive now, says study

One in every 200 men alive today is a relative of Genghis Khan. An international team of geneticists has made the astonishing discovery that more than 16 million men in central Asia have the same male Y chromosome as the great Mongol leader.

It is a striking finding: a huge chunk of modern humanity can trace its origins to Khan's vigorous policy of claiming the most beautiful women captured during his merciless conquest.

Salam

so one in two hundred men shares a gene with a criminal and murderer. That explains a lot.

wa 'alaikumassalam

Who cares?

Why do scientists spend so much time and effort 'studying' such useless garbage?

Peace,

Teachnically we are all related. Think about it this way, each of us have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, 16 great-great grandparents and so on. If you do the maths and go back 2000 years you would have 8.4 billion ancestors which ultimately led to you existing. That just doesn't add up, there weren't anything like 8.4 billion people alive 2000 years ago, much less 8.4 billion ancestors for every person on earth. What has happened is that our ancestors inter-bred with distant (or in redneck country less distant) cousins. I am a distant cousin of everybody on this forum just as everybody on this forum is a distant cousin of each of you. You are each genetically related to every single other person that has existed in recorded history.

To understand this think about it the other way around. If you have 2 children in life who each go on to have 4 grand-children (a not unreasonable expectation for most people), who go on to have 8 great grandchildren etc etc. In 2000 years you will have 8.4 billion descendants. (And that's being conservative.) Scientific estimates reckon that the last person alive to whom everybody on earth is related to could have lived as recently as 3,000 years ago!
