ummammaar 0 Posted December 16, 2004 :D Attorneys for Bilal Mahmud are preparing to file a civil rights suit in federal court. Although Bilal Mahmud and his attorneys received word from the Department of Transportation yesterday, the DOT still has not provided any reason for revoking Mahmud's Hazardous Materials endorsement on his Commercial Drivers License (CDL) permit. Surprisingly to Mahmud and his attorneys, the Department of Homeland Security has handed the matter over to the Department of Transportation. Bilal Mahmud is an African American Vietnam veteran who has never had a violation, has never been convicted of a crime, is considered a pillar of his community and has worked for the same company for twenty years. However, in the summer of 2004, Mahmud was officially deemed "a threat to national security," and was subsequently commanded by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to relinquish his CDL, bearing the hazardous materials endorsement, which he had successfully held for more than 20 years. "It's rather strange," says Mahmud. "When I was young and served my country, I had national security clearance because I was in reconnaissance. "And now that I've served my country, and I'm old, I'm considered a threat by my government - what an irony."
