ummammaar 0 Posted December 19, 2004 :D Author: unknown source: unknown; a widely circulated article, which was first given to me by my aerobics teacher. We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down like this before. Water 1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population) 2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. 3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. 4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study. 5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. 6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. 7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page. 8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day? COKE 1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident. 2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days. 3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china. 4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola. 5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. 6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. 7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy. 8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield. For Your Info 1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis. 2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials. 3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a glass of water or coke? Allah's Slave 1 Posted December 20, 2004 (edited) :D The way you have presented the facts seems so cut and dry. Yes, I would prefer a glass of clean and pure H2O...unfortunately, when I turn on the tap, that's not all I'm drinking. I grew up in a house where we didn't buy white clothes because they would be turned "off-white" after just one wash. That stigma remains with me to this day, if I have a white dress shirt...or, ironically enough, the "I <3 LA" I got on my trip to LA...it goes to the dry cleaners because, even though I live in a different state, I worry that the water will ruin my clothes. At the house I grew up at, we could light the water on fire...sort of. The community had well water. We could take a gallon milk bottle and fill it with water, and then cap it reeeal fast. Then, light a match. quickly remove the cap and slide the match over the top of the bottle. the fire would stay lit on top of the bottle of water for several seconds. this is because there was methane built up in the water. if you were to pour a glass, it would fizz up from bottom to top so bad you couldn't see through it. then the fizz would clear up from the bottom to the top as it left the cup. at this point it was safe to drink. The city i live in now was once effected by something called "cryptosporidium." it was the worst public health disaster in US history. this parasitic germ was spread through the cities water supply and infected over half the population. it was only lethal to the young and elderly, but still regular adults became ill and had to have the symptoms treated. So, I try to use a brita filter right? well that thing gets gross inside too. i don't know what to do besides drink bottled water, and that's expensive. on the other hand, coke has quality control and you always think you know what you're getting. whereas with water, you have to wonder. :D AS PS-one more story. there's a park near my apartment, and they have water fountains. one time i was out jogging and my water bottle was empty so i filled it up. i drank it, it tasted fine. i jogged back to the dorms (this is when i lived there), set the bottle down, and took a shower. when i got back, all the particles had settled down in the water and covered the bottom in rust colored dust. i shook the bottle up to see what it was and the water appeared green & i couldn't see through it. PPS-I'm drinking a bottle of water from my roommates room right now! Edited December 20, 2004 by Allah's Slave

MaryamK 1 Posted January 9, 2005 Asalamualaykum, Now I'm in the same boat as Allah's slave... our water here is contaimed (spelling?) by the factories around here and it leaked into the water supply system and we have a high radiation % so drinking our water is pretty harmful, not sure which is worse though. We have to boil our water and filter it. My sis is in the same boat too and she's in a totally different state. They go to her mother-in-law's for clean fresh water. Tip: Never live near a body of water surrounded by factories. :D

Immaad 0 Posted February 2, 2005 asalaamu alaikum wow, I am going to start drinking more water ASAP, but our tap water here is not good for drinking, so I can only drink bottled water, little expensive. I do feel fatigued in the afternoons, and I always am hungry late at night. More water for me :D.
