Islam & Terrorism; Islam = Religion Of Peace.

Recommended Posts

Salaam :sl:

I reverted to Islam about a year and a half, two years back. Everyone has their speculations on Islam, but I am a very open-minded person. The more I looked into Islam, in depth and all, I found this religion to be the most peaceful of them all. It is absolutely fantastic.

Sadly, due the the attacks on 9/11 and the war in Iraq, a majority of people believe Islam to be a religion of terrorism.

My parents found out I reverted and it was a terrible experience to go through. My father believes that Islamic people have "brainwashed" me and that it's a cult. He believes that every Muslim person in the world is a terrorist. And I find that to be absolutely disgusting thing to say. It honestly breaks my heart.

I do understand there are people out there who are radicals and do this. But, majority of Muslim people are completely 100% against it.

I don't wear hijab and since my parents found out, I hide the fact I am a Muslim.

Now, I have a few questions; how did you or do you face the racist comments?

How do you answer these people? Or answer anyone who has false and terrible thoughts about Islam?

Hijabis, do you feel you are more targeted for racist slurs since you wear the hijab?

I know this is a very touchy subject, and I am sorry if it bothers some people.

I do not wish to harm ANYONE by asking this.

I simply wish to understand and learn how to answer these comments.

Wa ALykum Salma

It doesn't bother anyone [smile]. Be patient. I know that's an easy thing to say but there is a great reward in being patient.

Islam is a religion of justice. It is not based on emotions. Alhamdulillah all of us are just Muslims. Our brothers are not terrorists. Others give Muslims all kind of labels. What some do we leave to Allah because He is the best of judges. Only He can jusdge people. We may have a person who is mean and all that but only Allah knows what is in their heart. Just because some people blow up a building, it doesn't make the religion infected with extremism.

“Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÓáã) till you follow their religion. Say: ‘Verily, the Guidance of Allaah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) that is the (only) Guidance. And if you (O Muhammad Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÓáã) were to follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Qur’aan), then you would have against Allaah neither any Wali (protector or guardian) nor any helper’â€

[al-Baqarah 2:120].

Wa'aleykum salaam warahmatullah sister Imaan,

Thank you so much for sharing your concern with us, may I first start by praying to Allah to strengthen your imaan, grant you patience and increase ur Islamic knowledge (the correct knowledge as taught by Allah in the Quran and prophet (SAW)) so that you may be able to defend ur religion from those allegations(that Islam is a religion of terrorism)

Indeed you are not the only muslim affected by the terrorism issue bng associated with Islam and muslims. It is so unfortunate that acts conducted by few individuals bng generalized to the whole muslim ummah. Islam is a religion of peace and justice

I do understand there are people out there who are radicals and do this. But, majority of Muslim people are completely 100% against it.

sister Imaan, you are very right abt the above, there are small group of muslim (extremists) who have taken up extreme rulings in the religion which is not right. These groups are known by a multitude of names hiding behind Islam to roam among the Islamic communities without drawing suspicion. Extremism does exist but the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said: “The extremist fanatics are doomed.â€

Now, I have a few questions; how did you or do you face the racist comments?

How do you answer these people? Or answer anyone who has false and terrible thoughts about Islam?

I personally have faced the same, you are not alone, but I always pray to Allah for patience and to increase my imaan because I believe Islam is the only true religion.

To answer these people u need to equip urself with the right knowledge,

visit this website it can be of help alsunna(contact admin if its a beneficial link) there is an article on Islam AGAINST EXTREMISM AND TERRORISM

a simple reply that always work for me is, reasoning with them in that how can they judge Islam from afew individuals who are going against the teachings of Islam, and give examples of individuals from their own religion who have done so many bad things, it doesnt mean that the religion teaches them whatever bad things individuals opt to do.

Hijabis, do you feel you are more targeted for racist slurs since you wear the hijab?

in Unislamic societies, I know the hijab is a great chalenge for most muslims living there, when I was in the university, I faced the same. Muslims were the minority, and at times i got ridiculed for wearing a hijab, but I never removed my hijab, instead I wore it with pride and would explain to the non-muslim the importance of covering myself and maintaining my dignity as a muslim lady.

Excellent Qualities of Those who Wear Hijab:

It is well known that the Muslim woman is a creature of modesty. Allah loves for our Muslim women to be shielded by their Hijab. It is their outer protection from the decadence of this life.

Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu`alayhi wa sallam) said ,

said: “Allah is modest and covering. He loves modesty and privacy.†[Abu Daawood, An-Nasaa'i Al-Bayhaqi, Ahmad].

Thus, as modesty is a quality that is loved by Allah, our sisters must take comfort in knowing that they are modest and that they are not like those women who show themselves off to the world. Such women will not be shielded from Allah’s Wramth.

Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu`alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Any woman who takes off her clothes in other than her husband’s home, has broken Allah’s shield upon her.†[Abu Daawood and At-Tirmithi)

Therefore, we see that the Hijab of the Muslim woman is indeed part of modesty. Modesty accompanies Eemaan (faith). That is why Allah's Messenger (sallallahu`alayhi wa sallam)

said: "Modesty is part of Eemaan and Eemaan is in Paradise." [At-Tirmithi]. Also: “Modesty and Eemaan are companions, when one goes away the other one goes away.†[Al-Haakim and others]

It can be quite difficult for the Muslim woman to go out wearing Hijab in a society that mocks and torments her. Indeed, she may feel strange and out of place. However, if she knows the status of those who are mocked by the disbelievers, then she would continue to wear her Hijab with dignity.

Allah Says in His Book (what means):

“Verily! The criminals used to laugh at those who believed. And whenever they passed them, used to wink at one another. And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting. When they saw them, they said:

‘These have indeed gone astray!’ But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). But on this Day those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers. On (high) thrones, looking (at all things). Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do?†[Quran 83:29-36]

Allah’s Words should serve as a support for you my dear sister.
