Is This Food Forbidden?

Recommended Posts

Hello

If a Jew were to invoke the name Yahweh or Hashem over food, would Muslims be allowed to eat it or is it forbidden since they used a name other than Allah?

Well it seems there are different opinions on it from what I have read...

Someone wish to explain this hadith more to me as I am not sure does the last sentence mean the people who brought the meat were muslim or the people who came to the prophet

Narrated 'Aisha: A group of people said to the Prophet, "some people bring to us meat and we do not know whether they have mentioned Allah's Name or not on slaughtering the animal." He said, "Mention Allah's Name on it and eat." Those people had embraced Islam recently. (Sahih Bukhari Book #67, Hadith #415)

I follow Islamqa .. but what was said on the other site makes me feel more comfortable. I actually avoid eating meat or chicken when I'm abroad unless I am sure its Islamicly slaughtered, other than that sushi is my choice :)

I asked a knowledgable friend about this and he said that the meat would be legal for consumption based on the scenario given in the original post.

The Hadith from Islamqa link would refer to the group that came to the prophet pbuh as I understand from the arabic version, and the hadith is explained by Shiek Bin Uthaymein.
