I don't know about the scholars; and I'm non-arab. "Roh" is considered soul(even in my language), which every person has. I think(my interpretation doesn't count) This Roh is ourselves.

Again this doesn't mean I'm right. it is just what I think "Roh"

[Quran 17:85]

"And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little."

Here is my proof, that I could find.

alsalamo alykom,

the Rouh in this verse [78.38], in most of the tafaseers, is the holy spirit, the Angle "Gebreel", that Angle who carried the Quran to the prophet, as he will be the leader of the angles in the day of judgement.

the Rouh, is used also as the "human soul" like in the verse [17-85]

the Rouh, is used also "the Quran" as in the verse [42-52], since the Quran is the spiritual feeding of the human spirit.

Allah knows best,

alsalamo alykom, brother WeaAeComming

the Rouh in this verse is the soul, human's secret of life. in most of the Tafaseers, the verse is interpreted according to the hadeeth that mentioned in many of the hadeeth Saheeh books, in Al-Bukhary from the hadeeth of Abdu-Allah Ibn Masoud " while i was walking with the prophet (pbuh).....we pathed by a group of Jew, some of them told the others: ask him about the spirit......one of them stand up and said: O Aba-Alqaseem what is the Spirit? ....Allah revealed the verse { And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little." [Quran 17:85]

I also believe Surah 78's Spirit is Gabriel. Which is interesting... Gabriel, who is always mentioned with either bringing a Message or helping a Messenger in some way or another is described as being back on the Day of Resurrection. Is there any mention in the Qur'an that the Spirit not being associated with a Messenger?

I read my translation of the quran; it did say [i.e Gibrael], and Second Ruh-ul-qudus I know that is Gibreel.

So I guess it is Gibreel.

Well, the Islamic scholars have different interpretation for the word spirit in the context of this verse of Koran. Some of them says that the word refer to the sons of Adam, some says that its refer to Jibril and citing for this argument what Allah said in Surat shu-araa (26:193-194)

(Which the trustworthy Ruh has brought down. Upon your heart that you may be of the warners.)

Others says the Ruh (Spirit) is the noblest of the angels, the closest of them to Allah Almighty

Or

The Koran and citing for this argument what Allah said in Surat shuurah (42:52)

(52. And thus We have sent to you Ruh of Our command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith. But We have made it a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our servants We will. And verily, you are indeed guiding to a straight path.)
