Assalamu Alaykum From Ohio, Usa

Assalamu Alaykum,

I am never quite sure what to say in forums introductions so I apologise if this awkward :P I am a relatively recent revert (about three years now since I became a Muslim). Recently I have started studying Islam a bit more in depth than I have in the past so I figured setting up an account on this forums would be a great way to pick the brains of some Muslims who may know a bit more than I on some subjects as well as a way to reach out an meet some like minded people since I am usually too shy to reach out and make friends at the Masjid etc (I've got a rather severe case of social anxiety...:\).

I am 24 and happily married, but we've yet to have any children. I am a hairdresser, and currently we are in the process of opening up our very own salon so we can hopefully start a family in a few years inshaAllah. It's kept us rather busy this last year.

see...never know what to say :P

maybe a quick 'how I came to Islam' story:

I found Islam when I was struggling with some personal issues a few years back. I fell in with a bad crowd, and did some rather unsavory things in my late teens/early twenties..but I really feel like Islam saved me from that lifestyle. I was getting tattoos, drinking, drugging rather hard etc, but I just felt compelled to pick up a Qu'ran one day...sort of felt pulled to it if that makes sense (I kept hearing about Islam on the news, and I had quite a few Muslim friends when I was younger in elementary school...so the two views of Islam were not lining up. I had to see for myself what this religion was all about). My husband started reading the Qu'ran not long after I took interest and started wearing hijab. It radically changed my life, and gave me something to live for. I am still struggling with some of the scars of my past, but inshaAllah I will be free of that past life soon. It gets a little easier, and a little better each day :)

Otherwise, I am looking forward to learning from, gaining inspiration through, and hopefully breaking out of my shell a little bit by joining this community. Thanks for reading..and again I'm sorry if this is so awkward...I'm extremely shy, and still learning how to socialise again after a few years of not doing so beyond work (for my own benefit I had to sever ties completely with my "friends" from my past, and recently I've started trying to break out again and meet people who will be good influences for me :)).

Best wishes!

What about your hubby, did he revert too?

I'm glad you decided to join us. I hope that you find your stay here at IF beneficial, as well as enjoyable, and inshaAllah we benefit from each other.

Thank you for the links. I will be sure to check them out. As for posting my reversion story to the forums i will when i can find the time inshaAllah. The new business is taking up most of my time recently. My husband has not taken shahada yet, but he is learning to pray in Arabic, reading Qu'ran, and has finally rejected the belief that Isa is not a manifestation of Allah. Its a slow process for him as he was raised a rather devoted Christian, and changing religion is a little scary for him still considering his family etc. He calls himself a believer and tool of God, so he no longer associates himself as a Christian. He knows that although I love him very much I can not remain married to him (as far as I know) without him reverting himself; he just wants to be entirely sure and devoted before he officially embraces Islam. This is one of his most endearing qualities I feel, because he never does anything without fully thinking it through and with full devotion and intention. He will soon inshaAllah.

That's great to hear. Insha'Allah he will be guided.

I admire your good knowledge. You're right about keeping your marriage. But as far as there is hope in him reverting, insha'Alah your marriage status is fine (according to the ruling of Dr. Al-Qaradawi). Give him all the time that he needs.

"O Allah! Let our hearts have light, and our sights  have light, and our hearing (senses) have light, and let us have light on our right, and lets us have light on our left, and let us have light above us, and have light under us, and have light in front of us, and have light behind us, and let us have light.  (Bukhai, Vol., pp.271, #407)

wa alaykum as salaam sister

really nice to hear your story, you seem like a really positive person. Forget your past, Allah forgives all your sins in your past once you become a Muslim. I am also a revert so I know at times we can look back on our life and think wow I was so different then. I can't imagine my life without Islam now. I hope that your faith in Allah will remain strong and that your husband finds the way to Islam from his own heart. May Allah bless you. Ameen
