Abu Hafsat 8 Posted July 2, 2019 As-Salaam alaikum, The abbreviated Letter Qaf opens Surat QAF of the Holy Qur'an (chapter 50) ... a number of commentators say that Qaf is a mountain that surrounds the world. In Qisa su'l-anbiya, Sayyadi Ali Ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, was reported as saying: "The earth, as soon as Allah created it, cried out and said, 'O Lord, will You place upon me sons of Adam who commit sins and cast filth upon me?' and it rocked violently. Then Allah fastened it down with mountains and steadied it, and He Created a huge mountain of green emerald-- whence comes the greeness of the sky-called mountain Qaf, encircling the whole earth; and this is that by which Allah swore, saying, " QAAF. By the Glorious Qur'an " (50:1) And Wahab Ibn Munabbih said:-- "Dhu'l-Qarnayn came to mountain Qaf and saw small mountains around it. 'What are these?' he said. 'They are my veins' it replied: 'When Allah Wills that a land should quake, He orders me and I let one of my veins throb and there is an earthquake in the adjoining land.' Dhu'l-Qarnayn said: 'O Qaf, tell me something of the Majesty of Allah.' 'The Majesty of our Lord [Allah] surpasses all description and conception.' 'Tell me the least thing thereof that can be described.' 'Lo, said Mountain Qaf, 'Beyond me, for the distance of 500 years journey, lies a land of snow-mountains which crush against one another and, beyond that, similar mountains of hail: were it not for snow and hail, the world would be consumed by the heat of Hell-fire."
